Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Of the Visit to the American Churches, Vol. 1 of 2: By the Deputation From the Congregational Union of England and Wales One should have thought, that such a movement on the part of churches in different regions of the globe, could have been viewed only with unmixed satisfaction and joy. Yet the Deputation, on returning, have con' cern, if not surprise, to find that, in some quarters, and in the name of religion, their mission has been open to misrepresentation, and their motives to misconstrue tion. They trust, however, when it is found that their mission was as catholic as the religion they profess; that they had no political or party purposes to aecom plish; that their embassy was one of fraternal and Christian charity, - to express love and to invite love, - nothing more and nothing less - that justice will be done to a service which, apart from the manner of its execution, demands only the approbation of the gener ous and the good. Whatever may be the ultimate con elusion of those who have indulged in hasty, and per haps prejudiced objection, their judgment is fixed unalterably fixed. They have reason to regard it as one of the noblest acts to which the church, in recent times, has given herself; they are confident that, if rightly sustained, the consequences will be most felici tous; and they must regard it, in itself, as among the most cheering signs of the times, if, indeed, the union of the church is to anticipate the conversion of the world. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Narrative of the Visit to the American Churches, Vol. 2: By the Deputation From the Congregational Union of England Wales The instruction, which is regularly given in the Sab bath schools and in Bible classes, should, though not of a periodical character, be considered as contributing, in an important degree, to a sound and extensive revival. The young persons, who have been thus trained in reli gions knowledge, are in a state of preparation to admit and feel the power of the truth; and when they are placed in new circumstances in relation to it, and it is applied with unwonted force to the conscience, it is usually with the happiest result. Their previous know ledge facilitates the introduction of life, and regulates it when introduced. The first rush of living feeling over the heart is controlled by an informed understanding They give the more sure and pleasing evidence of con version at the time; and are expected most to adorn their profession afterwards. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Union or Separation These facts have been overlooked far too much during the Home Rule contest. The English people are so great and strong that they have almost lost sight Oftheir own nationality, and are in danger of forgetting what is due to their own interests and to their own race. There are Of people inhabiting the United Kingdom, and Of these inhabit England. But a large proportion of the Lowland Scotch are also Saxon, that is English in blood, and many of the people of Ulster are English in blood and history. The English people of the United Kingdom number at least and probably near This question Of Home Rule has been too much treated as an Irish issue. It is not a purely Irish issue; it is a National and an Imperial Question. Whether it be just or unjust to grant a separate Parliament to Ireland, the interests of Great Britain and of the world-wide Empire of which the United Kingdom is the centre and the heart, must be first considered. The Unionist party believe - and all the lessons of history and experience, past and present, support their belief - that union means strength, and that separate Parliaments and Separate administrations mean, first discord and weakness, and then ultimate disruption and decay. This book was released on 2018-02-11 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Congregational Mission Hymnal and Week-Night Service Book: Edited for the Congregational Union of England and Wales Mr. Barrett's draft was carefully considered by both committees. Its leading features and substance were entirely approved; and many valuable suggestions made to the Editor were incorporated in the work. On the suggestion of the Editor the revision of the harmonies of all the non copyright tunes in the entire work was entrusted to one of the most distinguished musicians of the present day, Mr. Joseph Barnby, of Eton College, Windsor. It is a pleasure to acknowledge the great care and attention Mr. Barnby has devoted to the re-arrangement of many of the most popular melodies contained in the book, and the value of the exquisite compositions from his own pen which enrich the present book. Book Union Speeches Delivered in England During the Present American War Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2017-12-13 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Union Speeches Delivered in England During the Present American War Mr. Train has collected and kindly permitted me to republish in book form, the several speeches delivered in England during the past year, which have been so extensively copied by the American Press, and have won for him a time honored reputation in his Native Land. Many of the events that have taken place, it Will be seen, were foreshadowed in these speeches long in advance, and the Union Sentiment that prevails will show how well the Country was represented, at least by one Loyal American, Who had the moral courage to express his opinions, although at the risk of sacrificing his extensive interests in England. The speeches are printed as they originally appeared in the London American, Mr. Train's time being too limited to revise them, and erase the numerous repetitions that must inevitably appear When so many speeches have been delivered in so short flame upon the same subject, but as he has generously presented the entire profits that may arise from their sale, to establish on a permanent basis an American Journal in London, I may be excused for any errors that may appear from this hasty compilation. Book The War and Wales Classic Reprint

Download or read book The War and Wales Classic Reprint written by John Vyrnwy Morgan and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The War and Wales I desire to state that the chapter on the Right Hon. D. Lloyd George, M.P., is an expansion - on a very considerable scale - of an article which I contributed to the Fortnightly Review, and which appeared May, 1913. I am obliged to the Editor for his permission to reproduce it in this volume. The chapter on the Right Hon. W. Morris Hughes, Premier of Australia, was submitted to Mr. Hughes himself, and I have his authority for saying that all the facts are correct. For reading some portions of the proofs my thanks are due to the Rev. G. C. Rowe, B.A., Principal of St. Andrew's School, Tenby, and to Mr. R. L. C. Morrison. For help of various kinds in connection with this and other works I am greatly indebted to the Rev. D. Silyn Evans, Aberdare; also to my wife, whose services to me in the same direction have been invaluable. Having regard to the fact that the character of this work is philosophical rather than historical, and the greatly increased cost of production, which an author cannot pass on to the public, the preparation of an Index has been dispensed with.
