Book Ethnic Realities and the Church Second Edition

Download or read book Ethnic Realities and the Church Second Edition written by Robert Blincoe and published by William Carey Publishing. This book was released on 1979-06-01 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lessons Learned the Hard Way. The missionary enterprise is difficult, wherever it’s undertaken. But some places and peoples make it especially difficult, showing painfully-little visible fruit over decades or even centuries. Kurdistan is one of those places. But that doesn’t mean God hasn’t been at work, nor does it mean there aren’t valuable lessons to be learned, even from “failures.” From his on-the-ground experience in Kurdistan and his study of past missionary work there, Bob Blincoe presents this thorough history of missions to the Kurdish people. More than mere history, Ethnic Realities and the Church is also a mission-strategy handbook. Here are helpful insights and implications not only for those who would still reach the Kurds for Christ, but for missionaries to any people group, especially where tilling the soil is particularly hard.

Book Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich

Download or read book Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich written by Paul Robinson and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich Romanov (1856–1929) was a key figure in late Imperial Russia, and one of its foremost soldiers. At the outbreak of World War I, his cousin, Tsar Nicholas II, appointed him Supreme Commander of the Russian Army. From 1914 to 1915, and then again briefly in 1917, he was commander of the largest army in the world in the greatest war the world had ever seen. His appointment reflected the fact that he was perhaps the man the last Emperor of Russia trusted the most. At six foot six, the Grand Duke towered over those around him. His fierce temper was a matter of legend. However, as Robinson's vivid account shows, he had a more complex personality than either his supporters or detractors believed. In a career spanning fifty years, the Grand Duke played a vital role in transforming Russia's political system. In 1905, the Tsar assigned him the duty of coordinating defense and security planning for the entire Russian empire. When the Tsar asked him to assume the mantle of military dictator, the Grand Duke, instead of accepting, persuaded the Tsar to sign a manifesto promising political reforms. Less opportunely, he also had a role in introducing the Tsar and Tsarina to the infamous Rasputin. A few years after the revolution in 1917, the Grand Duke became de facto leader of the Russian émigré community. Despite his importance, the only other biography of the Grand Duke was written by one of his former generals in 1930, a year after his death, and it is only available in Russian. The result of research in the archives of seven countries, this groundbreaking biography—the first to appear in English—covers the Grand Duke's entire life, examining both his private life and his professional career. Paul Robinson's engaging account will be of great value to those interested in World War I and military history, Russian history, and biographies of notable figures.

Book Factors Behind the Ukrainian Evangelical Missionary Surge from 1989 to 1999

Download or read book Factors Behind the Ukrainian Evangelical Missionary Surge from 1989 to 1999 written by John Edward White and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-03-16 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout its history, the Soviet Union was one of the most closed places in the world to missionary work. As perestroika came in the late 1980s and the Soviet Union fell in 1991, a spiritual vacuum formed as massive numbers of people became interested in Christianity. An unprecedented freedom allowed evangelicals to engage in missionary work. Much has been written about foreign evangelical missionary work during this period, but virtually nothing has been written about nationals doing ministry. This book examines the remarkable surge in Ukrainian evangelical missionary work from 1989 to 1999. Both Baptists and Pentecostals engaged in a wave of missions, flowing from Ukraine to the end of the earth: Siberia. What were these pioneering missionaries like? What motivated them? What enabled them to do what had been forbidden for so long? What legacy did they leave for us today? What can we learn from their example for future missions? This book also looks at how a surge in missions takes place, analyzing the factors behind the Ukrainian evangelical missionary surge by looking at different models for change. Here we consider: what steps can we take to help bring about new missionary surges?
