Book excerpt: Modern scientists are on the verge of crises for new guidance for their research in the 21st century because of new technologies, which have shed light on new discoveries that contradict with the Standard Model and the Big Bang theory. The Ultimate Theory of the Universe not only explains the structure of the cosmos, but also the spiritual facet that the 20th century science has never studied in depth. This book may be used as guidance for both scientists and ordinary people to live a meaningful life. Visuddhimagga Unlike an animal, man requires more than mere physical comfort and needs help to cope with his frustration and miseries arising from his daily experience. We seem to have an instinctive urgent to seek the Truth, but somehow lack the capacity to find it. The dilemma of trying to set up an absolute standard is merely one of the many puzzles that have harassed mankind since the dawn of civilization. Man's search for Truth has been a never-ending obsession. The Ultimate Theory of The Universe is a bridge between modern science and Buddhism. The author had tried to use Buddhism as a compass for the people of the 21st century. It seeks to answer major questions about Buddhism relation to modern science. ARRANGED INTO THIRTEEN COMPREHENSIVE SECTIONS It isn't fair to say that despite all the scientific progress achieved and the advantages conferred on man, science leaves the inner world basically unchanged. It has only heightened man's feeling of dependence and insufficiency, and has barely scratched the surface of man's inner world. Modern scientists are on the verge of crises for new guidance for their research in the 21st century because of new technologies, which have shed light on new discoveries that contradict with the Standard Model and the Big Bang theory. In addition to its failure to bring security to mankind, science has also made everyone feel even more insecure by threatening the world with the possibility of wholesale destruction. On the other hand, it is not difficult to understand that many of the views held in many religions regarding the cosmos and life are just conventional thoughts of which have long been superseded. It is a general truth to say that religions have greatly contributed to human development and progress. They have laid down value and standards and formulated principles to guide human life. But, for all the good they have done, religions can no longer survive in the modern scientific age if the followers insist on imprisoning truth into set forms and dogmas, on encouraging ceremonies and practices which have been depleted of their original meaning. Technology has pushed us to the brink of advancement. But the new discoveries and achievements in science are contradicting to the accepted classic theories of today. This conflict calls for a new platform of alignment to guide the world to

Book The Illustrated Theory of Everything

Download or read book The Illustrated Theory of Everything written by Stephen W. Hawking and published by Phoenix Books. This book was released on 2011-05-03 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stephen W. Hawking, widely believed to have been one of be one of the world’s greatest minds, presents a series of seven lectures— covering everything from big bang to black holes to string theory—. These lectures not only capture the brilliance of Hawking’'s mind, but his characteristic wit as well. In The Illustrated Theory of Everything, Hawking begins with a history of ideas about the universe, from Aristotle’s determination that the Earth is round to Hubble’s discovery, more than 2,000 years later, that the universe is expanding. Using that as a launching pad, he explores the reaches of modern physics, including theories on the origin of the universe (e.g., the Big Bang), the nature of black holes, and space-time. Finally, he poses the questions left unanswered by modern physics, especially how to combine all the partial theories into a “unified theory of everything.” “If we find the answer to that,” he claims, “it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason.” A great popularizer of science as well as a brilliant scientist, Hawking believes that advances in theoretical science should be “understandable in broad principle by everyone, not just a few scientists.” In this book, he offers a fascinating voyage of discovery about the cosmos and our place in it. It is a book for anyone who has ever gazed at the night sky and wondered what was up there and how it came to be.

Book excerpt: A rising star in theoretical physics offers his awesome vision of our universe and beyond, all beginning with a simple question: Why does time move forward? Time moves forward, not backward—everyone knows you can’t unscramble an egg. In the hands of one of today’s hottest young physicists, that simple fact of breakfast becomes a doorway to understanding the Big Bang, the universe, and other universes, too. In From Eternity to Here, Sean Carroll argues that the arrow of time, pointing resolutely from the past to the future, owes its existence to conditions before the Big Bang itself—a period modern cosmology of which Einstein never dreamed. Increasingly, though, physicists are going out into realms that make the theory of relativity seem like child’s play. Carroll’s scenario is not only elegant, it’s laid out in the same easy-to- understand language that has made his group blog, Cosmic Variance, the most popular physics blog on the Net. From Eternity to Here uses ideas at the cutting edge of theoretical physics to explore how properties of spacetime before the Big Bang can explain the flow of time we experience in our everyday lives. Carroll suggests that we live in a baby universe, part of a large family of universes in which many of our siblings experience an arrow of time running in the opposite direction. It’s an ambitious, fascinating picture of the universe on an ultra-large scale, one that will captivate fans of popular physics blockbusters like Elegant Universe and A Brief History of Time. Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The epic story of the greatest quest in all of science—the holy grail of physics that would explain the creation of the universe—from renowned theoretical physicist and author of The Future of the Mind and The Future of Humanity When Newton discovered the law of gravity, he unified the rules governing the heavens and the Earth. Since then, physicists have been placing new forces into ever-grander theories. But perhaps the ultimate challenge is achieving a monumental synthesis of the two remaining theories—relativity and the quantum theory. This would be the crowning achievement of science, a profound merging of all the forces of nature into one beautiful, magnificent equation to unlock the deepest mysteries in science: What happened before the Big Bang? What lies on the other side of a black hole? Are there other universes and dimensions? Is time travel possible? Why are we here? Kaku also explains the intense controversy swirling around this theory, with Nobel laureates taking opposite sides on this vital question. It is a captivating, gripping story; what’s at stake is nothing less than our conception of the universe. Written with Kaku’s trademark enthusiasm and clarity, this epic and engaging journey is the story of The God Equation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since the dawn of humanity, humans have attempted to fully comprehend and explain nature. However, orthodox science holds that not even the most sophisticated model is proficient enough to provide a perfect depiction of the universe. Indeed, no thought process thus far has ever managed to present social life, politics, economics, psychology, technology, the material world and terrestrial space as a seamless whole. The Ultimate Theory is a dialogue on the nature of reality with the world's foremost scientists. The theory almost perfectly explicates the nature of the universe in a single theoretical framework by demonstrating that the subject matter of science is spatial (non-Euclidian space) and non-spatial dimensions (inherent properties of the physical world). We are one with nature. The physical world is extended in non-physical realms in what can be described as connectedness. Hence, in addition to the familiar three–dimensional spatial world, there are twelve (12) non-spatial relations namely gravity, electromagnetism, strong nuclear interaction, weak nuclear interaction, dark matter, dark energy, mental faculties, senses, emotions, time, life and death. Spatial and non-spatial dimensions are the reference frames in which we organize our experience. Following Immanuel Kant, the physical (noumenal) world cannot be comprehended directly. The subject for scientific study is the phenomenal world (phenomena or properties of the physical world). We grasp the universe by studying non-physical phenomena. The gist of The Ultimate Theory is that connectedness is what drives science and everything else. Connectedness as a thought process represents another noteworthy stride in the human quest for meaning. Connectedness is essential to our understanding of the origins, structure and ultimate fate of the universe, and our place in it. The universe is an organic whole, a whole in which all parts are connected. We are one (share a purpose) regardless of the supposed diversity. History, evolution and our life experience are entangled. History is the development of human awareness of our connectedness with the rest of the universe. The centerpiece of the connectedness experience is life (and death). Life (and death) is the organizing principle of the universe. The human society, for example, is constituted by bonds of hope (life) and bonds of fear (death). Humankind is self-centered, competitive and conflictual out of fear (the urge for self-preservation). However, broadly understood identity struggles and politics in the human society are not attempts to gain access to and control limited resources - the social (e.g., mates), biological (e.g., food), and physical (e.g., territory) rather humans are engaged in the pursuit to perpetuate life and eschew bereavement (collective preservation). Since the dawn of humankind, human beings have desired to live forever. Mourning is the most conspicuous collective expression of the human longing to circumvent death. As scientists (and the general public) perfect their mastery of the completeness of the cosmos (spatial and non-spatial dimensions), humanity may possibly manage to travel back in time, explore distinctive futures and effectively become immortal.

Book excerpt: Two world-renowned scientists present an audacious new vision of the cosmos that “steals the thunder from the Big Bang theory.” —Wall Street Journal The Big Bang theory—widely regarded as the leading explanation for the origin of the universe—posits that space and time sprang into being about 14 billion years ago in a hot, expanding fireball of nearly infinite density. Over the last three decades the theory has been repeatedly revised to address such issues as how galaxies and stars first formed and why the expansion of the universe is speeding up today. Furthermore, an explanation has yet to be found for what caused the Big Bang in the first place. In Endless Universe, Paul J. Steinhardt and Neil Turok, both distinguished theoretical physicists, present a bold new cosmology. Steinhardt and Turok “contend that what we think of as the moment of creation was simply part of an infinite cycle of titanic collisions between our universe and a parallel world” (Discover). They recount the remarkable developments in astronomy, particle physics, and superstring theory that form the basis for their groundbreaking “Cyclic Universe” theory. According to this theory, the Big Bang was not the beginning of time but the bridge to a past filled with endlessly repeating cycles of evolution, each accompanied by the creation of new matter and the formation of new galaxies, stars, and planets. Endless Universe provides answers to longstanding problems with the Big Bang model, while offering a provocative new view of both the past and the future of the cosmos. It is a “theory that could solve the cosmic mystery” (USA Today).

Book Understanding the Universe

Download or read book Understanding the Universe written by Manjunath.R and published by Manjunath.R. This book was released on 2020-03-17 with total page 912 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Scientific Introduction to Subatomic particles, Alien Intelligence, and Human Space Exploration (For the Cosmically Curious): There are many fundamental questions about the universe that have intrigued scientists, philosophers, and ordinary people for centuries. Here are a few of them: What is the universe made of? This is one of the most basic questions about the universe. Scientists have identified a number of different types of matter and energy, including atoms, subatomic particles, dark matter, and dark energy, but there is still much we don't know. How did the universe begin? The origin of the universe is a subject of intense study and debate. The prevailing theory is the Big Bang, which suggests that the universe began as a singularity and has been expanding ever since. What is the ultimate fate of the universe? Will it keep on expanding indefinitely or will it ultimately come to an end? Some theories suggest that the universe may end in a "big rip" or a "big crunch," while others suggest that it will continue to expand indefinitely. What is the nature of space and time? These are fundamental concepts that are still not fully understood. Some theories suggest that space and time are intertwined and that they can be distorted by the presence of matter and energy. Are there other universes beyond our own? Some theories suggest that our universe may be just one of many in a "multiverse." Although this theory is yet hypothetical, it is a fascinating concept that could have significant ramifications for our comprehension of the cosmos. These are just a few of the many fundamental questions about the universe that scientists and philosophers continue to explore. "Understanding the Universe: Quarks, Leptons and the Big Bang" is a comprehensive exploration of the fundamental principles that govern the universe we live in. From the tiniest particles to the grandest structures in the cosmos, this book takes readers on a journey of discovery through the mysteries of modern physics and cosmology. Starting with an introduction to the basic building blocks of matter, the book delves into the strange world of quarks and leptons, exploring their properties and interactions. It then examines the forces that govern the behavior of matter, including the strong and weak nuclear forces, electromagnetism, and gravity. The book also covers the history of the universe, from its origins in the Big Bang to the present day, and discusses the evolution of stars and galaxies. Readers will gain a deep understanding of the structure of the universe, its expansion, and the mysterious dark matter and dark energy that make up the vast majority of its mass. Filled with engaging examples, clear explanations, and fascinating insights, "Understanding the Universe: Quarks, Leptons and the Big Bang" is a must-read for anyone interested in the inner workings of the cosmos. Whether you're a student of physics, a science enthusiast, or simply curious about the universe, this book will provide you with a solid foundation for understanding the world around us.

Book excerpt: Robert Lanza is one of the most respected scientists in the world a US News and World Report cover story called him a genius and a renegade thinker, even likening him to Einstein. Lanza has teamed with Bob Berman, the most widely read astronomer in the world, to produce Biocentrism, a revolutionary new view of the universe. Every now and then a simple yet radical idea shakes the very foundations of knowledge. The startling discovery that the world was not flat challenged and ultimately changed the way people perceived themselves and their relationship with the world. For most humans of the 15th century, the notion of Earth as ball of rock was nonsense. The whole of Western, natural philosophy is undergoing a sea change again, increasingly being forced upon us by the experimental findings of quantum theory, and at the same time, toward doubt and uncertainty in the physical explanations of the universes genesis and structure. Biocentrism completes this shift in worldview, turning the planet upside down again with the revolutionary view that life creates the universe instead of the other way around. In this paradigm, life is not an accidental byproduct of the laws of physics. Biocentrism takes the reader on a seemingly improbable but ultimately inescapable journey through a foreign universe our own from the viewpoints of an acclaimed biologist and a leading astronomer. Switching perspective from physics to biology unlocks the cages in which Western science has unwittingly managed to confine itself. Biocentrism will shatter the readers ideas of life--time and space, and even death. At the same time it will release us from the dull worldview of life being merely the activity of an admixture of carbon and a few other elements; it suggests the exhilarating possibility that life is fundamentally immortal. The 21st century is predicted to be the Century of Biology, a shift from the previous century dominated by physics. It seems fitting, then, to begin the century by turning the universe outside-in and unifying the foundations of science with a simple idea discovered by one of the leading life-scientists of our age. Biocentrism awakens in readers a new sense of possibility, and is full of so many shocking new perspectives that the reader will never see reality the same way again.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bestselling author and acclaimed physicist Lawrence Krauss offers a paradigm-shifting view of how everything that exists came to be in the first place. “Where did the universe come from? What was there before it? What will the future bring? And finally, why is there something rather than nothing?” One of the few prominent scientists today to have crossed the chasm between science and popular culture, Krauss describes the staggeringly beautiful experimental observations and mind-bending new theories that demonstrate not only can something arise from nothing, something will always arise from nothing. With a new preface about the significance of the discovery of the Higgs particle, A Universe from Nothing uses Krauss’s characteristic wry humor and wonderfully clear explanations to take us back to the beginning of the beginning, presenting the most recent evidence for how our universe evolved—and the implications for how it’s going to end. Provocative, challenging, and delightfully readable, this is a game-changing look at the most basic underpinning of existence and a powerful antidote to outmoded philosophical, religious, and scientific thinking.
