Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The World Cup 2018 saw a record 66 goals scored from set-piece situations (42% of the 155 total goals scored), a remarkable and emphatic statement regarding the influence of set-pieces on the modern game. Yet very little, if any, attention is paid to the influence of set-pieces in coaching literature, coaching courses, or symposiums. The Ultimate Book of Soccer Set-Pieces is the most comprehensive examination of set-piece planning on both the attacking and defending sides of the ball. It carefully and thoroughly examines the potential of all manner of restarts in soccer, from throw-ins to corner kicks and free kicks. Different activities with accompanying diagrams are provided for each set-piece, so players have the opportunity to practice both attacking and defending restarts. From simple organizational considerations to complex plays featuring many variations, this book is the tool coaches at every level need to prepare their teams to win the set-piece battle.

Book Defending in Soccer

Download or read book Defending in Soccer written by Tony Englund and published by Meyer & Meyer Sport. This book was released on 2023-10-01 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1990 World Cup in Italy was infamous for generating the lowest-ever goals per game average, and since then, tactical thought has focused heavily and consistently on flexible attacking designed to break down and defeat defending in depth. This book argues that the next tactical revolution belongs to the defending side of the ball, and it features complex, layered defending, blending postures and pressures designed to keep an attacking team off balance throughout the match. There are many quality soccer coaches in the game at every level who feel that defending is more about mentality than tactics, that defending topics do not need to be part of every training session. This book seeks to reestablish balance in tactical planning and in training design by examining every aspect of individual and team defending, making it easy for the coach to incorporate tackling, defending roles, pressing, defending setpieces, and many more topics into team training. With its more than 190 defending drills to train players, it is the complete guide to mastering defending in soccer.

Download or read book Soccer Offense written by Chest Dugger and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-03-28 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you want to improve your individual or soccer team's offensive game? This book is your answer. Soccer is the most popular team sport in the world. It incites passion in players, pundits and supporters and leads to enormous loyalties to followers. It is the simplest of games, but one upon which tactical skills can be layered as we might find in the closest of chess matches. But the aspect of soccer that lifts the crowds to their feet, gets them cheering and, usually, offers the greatest thrills to players and supporters alike is when a team attacks. The superb piece of individual skill, the piercing pass that splits a defence like a bread knife breaking a closely bound loaf, the shot, or header that screams into the net. That is what is at the heart of soccer. And the game is definitely changing to see offensive philosophies overtake more defensive formations as the principals by which top teams orchestrate their play. From the great Arsenal sides of the late 1990s and early 2000s, under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger, through the development of tikka-taka play of the noughties' Barcelona team, through the high pressing, strong attacking style of the likes of Pep Guardiola, who of course started with the Spanish giants, and Jurgen Klopp, the best club sides have built their success on offensive play, trusting themselves to outscore the opposition in any given game. And that has all been to the benefit of the fan, who see more goals - the tactical 0-0 or hope for a goal from a set piece to barely enliven a boring, safe soccer display are largely now removed to the closet of soccer's history. This book will look at offensive plays. It will offer insight to coaches, players and supporters, young and old, and provide drills and analysis that can both help us to better understand the game and produce higher quality in attacking moves ourselves, or with our teams. We hope that you find it interesting, and informative. And that it makes your team, your coaching or your own offensive play more effective. Book Soccer s Principles of Play

Download or read book Soccer s Principles of Play written by Marcus Dibernardo and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2020-06-26 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Training Programs are often designed around ideas, that a coach wants to transfer to players. The ideas are normally related to the game model, and tactical principles of play, which the coach has chosen for the teams identity. This is an example of a global-to-local approach, where the coach is influencing the actions of the players, by providing guidelines from the game model to the tactical principles of play. As a result the players will organize under the global-to-local environment, created by the coach. It is my opinion that the global-to-local or coach to team approach, lacks the flexibility that allows players to take advantage of opportunities, that fall outside of the teams principles of play and game model. The opposite approach of global-to-local is local-to-global, local-to-global is where the player or players are able to self-organized, quickly adapting to take advantage of the unpredictable situations that happen in the real game. When I think of local-to-global, I think of intelligent players with unique skills sets, capable of creating many different solutions, inside and outside of the teams principles of play. Since the game of soccer is fluid, unpredictable and rapidly changing, teams that can adapt and adjust, finding new solutions to problems, even outside of their typical principles of play, will gain an advantage. In reality, there will be a constant interplay between global-to-local and local-to-global organization in the team. Let's now take a look at what a tactical principle of play is; I would define it as team goal, that shapes the actions of individuals and the collective team unit, guiding them to find tactical solutions in the game. The ultimate goal of tactics, is to find a way to achieve an end goal; the tactical principles of play should support, and influence the game model. Within the principles of play, each player will have certain affordances available to them, which support the team objectives. However, since every player is different, each player has their own unique skill sets, it is this uniqueness that creates individualized affordances. This is why a flexible game model, combined with flexible principles of play, gives players and teams the freedom to adapt, and find solutions, outside the standard ideas presented by the coach, in the global-to-local format. Perhaps the best teams find a special balance, allowing players to recognize the affordances, while stepping in and out of the principles of play. For example, if Messi has the chance to play a ball wide to the winger in space, but instead he beats two defenders in the middle of the field, and hits a through-ball for the striker to finish, this is an example of the principle of play called penetration, but normally the player would have played the ball wide to the winger into space, using the principle of play called width. The fact that Messi bent the rules, stepped outside the guidelines, and found another solution, which created a new affordance, resulting in the penetrating through-ball and goal. This example is a clear illustration of why it is important to remain flexible, allowing players to self-organize from a local-to-global perspective. Moments like this in a soccer game, can't be part of some pre-planned game model, or set of principles of play. The Brazilian National Team is an excellent example of local-to-global and global-to-local flexibility within a team. This approach can be seen in everything thing do, including the culture.
