Download or read book The Genus Macroteleia Westwood Hymenoptera Platygastridae S l Scelioninae from China written by Hua-yan Chen and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2013-05-15 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Macroteleia Westwood, 1835 (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae s. l.) is a cosmopolitan genus in the subfamily Scelioninae, comprising about 131 described species worldwide. Although Macroteleia are found on every continent except Antarctica, they are centred in the tropics and subtropics. In the past century since Kieffer?s comprehensive study of this genus, several regional revisions have done for the New World, Australia, Vietnam and the Palearctic region. In Asia, Macroteleia has been recorded from the Philippines, Borneo, Mongolia, India, Vietnam, Japan, Israel, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and China, but no species have been formally recorded from China. This monograph includes identification of seven new species and ten Chinese new record, and establishment of one new stat and five new synonyms. Key, descriptions and illustrations of all Chinese species are provided. The results of this monograph clarify some taxonomic confusion, richen the geographical distributions of Macroteleia in China, and provide facilities for further research of Macroteleia from China and Vietnam.

Book Monograph of the Afrotropical species of Scelio Latreille Hymenoptera Platygastridae egg parasitoids of acridid grasshoppers Orthoptera Acrididae

Download or read book Monograph of the Afrotropical species of Scelio Latreille Hymenoptera Platygastridae egg parasitoids of acridid grasshoppers Orthoptera Acrididae written by Matthew J. Yoder and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2014-02-17 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parasitic wasps of the genus Scelio (Hymenoptera: Platygastri-dae) attack and destroy the eggs of short-horned grasshoppers (Acrididae). Included among these hosts are some of the most destructive of all insects, the plague locusts. As a result, species of Scelio are potential allies in the biological control of these pests. This paper is the first comprehensive examination of the species of Scelio of the Afrotropical region in over 50 years. A total of 62 species were found, 77% of which are new to science. Descriptions and keys for identification are provided, and each species is extensively illustrated. This work is a product of the Platygastroidea Planetary Biodiversity Program and was conducted using biodiversity informatics tools and applications developed as part of that project.

Book Advances in the systematics of Hymenoptera

Download or read book Advances in the systematics of Hymenoptera written by Norman F. Johnson and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2009-09-14 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This issue celebrates the 75th birthday ofÿ Dr. Lubom?r Masner, a source of knowledge, enthusiasm, and inspiration for systematic entomologists in all fields, but especially for students of Hymenoptera. His unflagging dedication to the study of the parasitoid wasps of the superfamilies Proctotrupoidea, Platygastroidea, and Ceraphronoidea has completely transformed our understanding of the richness and evolutionaryÿ history of these insects. His zeal and innovation in collecting have not only dramatically enhanced the basis for our understanding of hymenopteran diversity, but also contributed to the development of the Canadian National Collection of Insects into one of the premiere systematic entomology research institutions in the world. Twenty-six authors have contributed to this volume in 17 papers on the systematics of the families Braconidae, Ceraphronidae, Chalcididae, Eucharitidae, Eupelmidae, Eurytomidae, Figitidae, Mymaridae, Platygastridae, Vespidae, and Xiphydriidae. Six new genera and 33 new species are described, encompassing fossil material as well as species from the Neotropical, Afrotropical, Oriental, and Australasian regions. A short biography of Dr. Masner is accompanied by a bibliography of his scientific papers, a list of taxa he has described over 55 years of research, and a list of taxa named in his honor.

Burks and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This issue contains the first of a planned set of three publications greatly expanding knowledge of the platygastroid genus Oxyscelio Kieffer. We recognize 90 species in the Indo-Malayan and Palearctic realms, 71 of which are described here as new species. We divided these species into 13 species groups in order to highlight unique or unusual morphological features shared by certain species. A total of 438 specimen photographs are provided to aid in specimen identification. Newly discovered species are described from Brunei, China, Christmas Island, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, The Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Book Revision of the Malagasy Genus Trichoteleia Kieffer Hymenoptera Platygastroidea Platygastridae

Download or read book Revision of the Malagasy Genus Trichoteleia Kieffer Hymenoptera Platygastroidea Platygastridae written by Elijah J. Talamas and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2011-02-16 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conducted as part of the Platygastroidea Planetary Biodiversity Inventory (PBI), the revision of Trichoteleia reveals an astounding diversity of species within the Malagasy Islands. The 20-fold increase in species manifested in this monograph documents an exemplar of island radiation and emphasizes the amount of faunistic work to be done in parasitic Hymenoptera. The beautiful array of colors, patterns of surface sculpture and body shapes that embellish the species of Trichoteleia adds an aesthetic boon to this exceptional group. This work implements a number of technological advances in the distribution of taxonomic and specimen-level information. These include extensive use of high resolution images, automated generation of descriptions from a character-by-taxon matrix, XML markup based on the TaxPub extension of the National Library of Medicine standards, and simultaneous publication and distribution of taxonomic and occurence records through the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF).

Book Biology Ecology and Systematics of Australian Scelio

Download or read book Biology Ecology and Systematics of Australian Scelio written by Paul Dangerfield and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2001-12-01 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parasitic wasps of the genus Scelio play an important role in the regulation of orthopteran populations and are implicated in suppressing numbers of numerous pest locusts and grasshoppers. This landmark volume provides a full taxonomic treatment of the sixty species of Scelio found on the Australian continent and reviews in detail the biology and ecology and host relationships of Scelio on a worldwide basis. Taking an international perspective, the text outlines our current knowledge on topics such as host finding, population biology, and methods and techniques for collection and study in the field. The use of Scelio as biological control agents is discussed and comprehensive checklists document the recorded host relationships of each known species worldwide. There is a full taxonomic revision of all Australian species of Scelio, half of which are newly described. Each species description is complemented with high-quality line drawings, micrographs and distribution maps. In addition, an illustrated key to species enables easy identification of species by non-taxonomists. Biology, Ecology and Systematics of Australian Scelio provides wasp taxonomists, researchers of orthoptera and biological control workers with a basis for detailed studies elsewhere on this economically important group of insects.

Book Systematics of Old World Odontacolus Kieffer s l Hymenoptera Platygastridae s l parasitoids of spider eggs

Download or read book Systematics of Old World Odontacolus Kieffer s l Hymenoptera Platygastridae s l parasitoids of spider eggs written by Alejandro A.Valerio and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2013-07-03 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wasp family Platygastridae is a large group of tiny, exclusively parasitoid wasps distributed worldwide. The genera Odontacolus and Cyphacolus, belonging to this family, are among the most distinctive wasps because of the peculiar hump-like formation on the rear part of their bodies (shape linked to the ovipositor system. Despite their intriguing body shape, the generic status of these two groups has remained unclear. We currently described a 32 new Odontacolus species, providing extensive morphological phylogenetic analysis of Odontacolus and Cyphacolus, these previously understudied genera. Previously considered to be relatively rare based on material available in collections, recent intensive collecting using Malaise and yellow-pan traps has revealed that some species of Odontacolus are moderately common, leading to the description of 32 species from across Africa, Australia and Asia.
