Book TELL THE TRUTH AS IT IS

Download or read book TELL THE TRUTH AS IT IS written by REVD A.A. HARRIOTT and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014-04 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a youth born and raised in Jamaica and through some African history we were taught in school, we acquired very little knowledge of the history of black nations. I also learned and accepted a Christ-like way of life which, up to this present time, remains the major force in my life on this planet and has also given me a great feeling of passion for all people. We were financially poor but always had plenty of food and drink. As a country boy, when I left school I had no real concept of time but was acutely aware of day and night. We did not know anything about slavery but one of the homes in which I was brought up was one of many slavery camps. Some of the chains that were used to bind young children to their parents whilst they were working on the plantations later became our childhood toys. The manner in which many of us were chastised was an indication of the upbringing that our parents were handing down to us because they knew of no other way.

Book To Tell the Truth

Download or read book To Tell the Truth written by Lewis M. Simons and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-11-15 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pulitzer Prize winning reporter Lewis M. Simons’s recollects his 50 years as a foreign correspondent, one whose powerful stories contributed to transforming Asia from Vietnam War-era basket case to a global boomtown that today rivals the United States. Simons’s investigative work led to the toppling of a dictator in the Philippines. He covered the Tiananmen Square massacre in China, bloody coups in Thailand, attempted genocide and societal collapse in Cambodia, and economic advance, decline and rebirth in Japan. He was expelled from India for his exclusive reporting on Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s political misuse of the armed forces. Breaking his own strict rule against becoming personally involved with people whose stories he covered, he saved the life of a dying teenaged Tibetan Buddhist monk. Simons molds the narrative of his lengthy, action-packed career from foxhole mud and backroom dirt. Layered with moments of tenderness and humor, as his camp-following family often accompanies him, the result is a masterful chronicle of war and murder; extreme poverty and suffering alongside repellent wealth and indulgence; wholesale larceny and ruling-class corruption—much of which escaped the scrutiny of other journalists. Readers who appreciate real-life historic drama will be enthralled.

Book excerpt: I am presenting my story of how I left the Christian church, studied different religions, joined a cult (The Hebrew Israelites), and traveled across the world in search of spiritual truth only to find out that the Kingdom of God is within me. When I was a child, attendance at church was mandatory. While at church I felt myself suffocating, like someone was sapping the life out of me. When I became old enough to make decisions for myself I knew I would leave the Christian religion. I would be the first one in my family to openly acknowledge that I did not believe in Jesus Christ. I thought leaving Christianity meant that my family could possibly disown me, but later on in my journey I found out that was not the case. I figured out at an early age that I did not have to be a Christian to know God. This book is about my journey to find God, the people I encountered along the way and how I came to finally understand the Universal God that exists in all of us.

Book An Autobiography or The Story of My Experiments with Truth

Download or read book An Autobiography or The Story of My Experiments with Truth written by M. K. Gandhi and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2018-01-01 with total page 805 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first critical, annotated edition of M. K. Gandhi's most famous written work, published seventy years after his death In the mid-1920s, prompted by a "small, still voice" that encouraged him to lay bare what was known only to him and his God, M. K. Gandhi began writing and publishing his autobiography. Drafted during a period of intensive fasting and "in-dwelling" at his ashram in Ahmedebad, his story of the soul portrayed the deeper, more inward experiences that made him externally an innovator in the struggles against violence, racism, and colonialism. The book, written in Gujarati and translated into English by Mahadev Desai, would become an international classic, hailed as one of the "100 Best Spiritual Books of the 20th Century." This first critical edition of this seminal work by leading Gandhi scholar Tridip Suhrud offers an unprecedented window into the original Gujarati text. Including both alternative English translations and illuminating notes, as well as a deeply researched introduction, it will bring renewed critical attention to one of the world's most widely read books.
