Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Internet has been romanticized as a zone of freedom. The alluring combination of sophisticated technology with low barriers to entry and instantaneous outreach to millions of users has mesmerized libertarians and communitarians alike. Lawmakers have joined the celebration, passing the Communications Decency Act, which enables Internet Service Providers to allow unregulated discourse without danger of liability, all in the name of enhancing freedom of speech. But an unregulated Internet is a breeding ground for offensive conduct. At last we have a book that begins to focus on abuses made possible by anonymity, freedom from liability, and lack of oversight. The distinguished scholars assembled in this volume, drawn from law and philosophy, connect the absence of legal oversight with harassment and discrimination. Questioning the simplistic notion that abusive speech and mobocracy are the inevitable outcomes of new technology, they argue that current misuse is the outgrowth of social, technological, and legal choices. Seeing this clearly will help us to be better informed about our options. In a field still dominated by a frontier perspective, this book has the potential to be a real game changer. Armed with example after example of harassment in Internet chat rooms and forums, the authors detail some of the vile and hateful speech that the current combination of law and technology has bred. The facts are then treated to analysis and policy prescriptions. Read this book and you will never again see the Internet through rose-colored glasses.

Trump, who rose to political prominence when he questioned whether Barack Obama was born in the United States of America. Trump learned racism from his father Fred Trump Sr., who also taught other family members to live by the doctrine of white supremacy. In fact, Trump's racist, bigoted, and sexist view of the world were all taught by his father as decisive character traits in building his financial dynasty. Throughout his career--including as President of the United States--Trump has also relied on an adept talent for propaganda, which Adolf Hitler devoted three chapters to in his 1925 book, Mein Kampf. Discover how Trump's racist agenda has driven his career and re-examine the way you see yourself and those closest to you with the insights in Hoodwinked.

Book Following The Truth Perception v Critical Thinking

Download or read book Following The Truth Perception v Critical Thinking written by Dr. Charles A. Rice, PhD and published by Dr. Charles A. Rice, Ph.D. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This tome surrounds the philosophies of Truth v. Perception, it considers the dichotomy of Truth v. the totality of Truth; and it's complicated in the thinking; the book focuses on critical thinking and problem solving skills; Rkelly merely represents the basis of scenarios; and with that, the philosophies are applied, related to a different way of consider things. The tome is formal in nature; meaning, being certified, unlegal, but very much logical; encompassing plausible scenarios of relief; maintaining that the totality of Truth, which can evolve to more truths, offers the better remedy. Wherefore; the premise of, ‘Perception v. Critical Thinking’, is its truth; Therefore; it will not matter what RKelly is not on trial for; but what is germane, is what RKelly is indicted for; and all else is inconsequential; it doesn't matter who knew RKelly; and it has nothing to do with the overaged women on LifeTime that were not underage; it has nothing to do with acquaintances or adversaries; moreover, having to do with the allegations brought forth in the indictment; and onwards, the merits on which the allegations are founded and being criminal in nature; Now comes; the things that are to be considered; Whereby, the use of logic and critical thinking will be applied. This tome will evaluate the most relevant and substantial of the allegations, and will do so in supplementary details; the tome does not substantiate guilt or innocence; withstanding judgment, and notwithstanding the unlegal opinion derived from it; Furthermore, this tome will not include insignificant individuals, not having a direct impact on the core substance, or, and, again, being inconsequential; overtly acknowledging all edicts to be alleged. We will explored the dimensions of our psyche related to truth; by reaching beyond the obvious, and by viewing things through the microscope exploring what might be possible, and impossible, and applying truth wherever possible, the depths of a multifaceted approach, regarding reason, thought, and truth, and how all of it might relate, and making use of the telescope to glance beyond the right now, and to consider where it is possible for the truth and reality to coexist in its totality, and not in-part; being detailed in our considerations and understanding; allowing the truth to evolve into more truths, and by grasping truths philosophies. If it’s true, and according to his supporters beliefs, It’s about RKelly’s catalog and its value; however, that premise fails in comparison to RKelly’s assertion that, ‘I’m fighting for my Life’, while others assert that things about RKelly being a pedophile; nevertheless, what comes first is the evaluation of the charges, because what is immediate are the charges he faces; while money may be a factor, on the surface, I can assess, that his money woes, begin long before these charges; but the accusation has swirled regarding underage activity, with a plethora of NDA’s; but could it be the result of being misunderstood, or perception.

Book The Qualls Concise English Grammar

Download or read book The Qualls Concise English Grammar written by Eduard J. Qualls and published by Danaan Press Inc. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Qualls Concise English Grammar "is a text that treats specifically of North American English. American-Canadian English-"ACE"-is both the native dialect of the predominant majority (almost 74%) of native English speakers, and is the standard for International Business. "ACE "is the oldest dialect of English, preserving capabilities and distinctions of vocabulary that have been lost in British English and other dialects. "ACE" is, in fact, closer (particularly in grammar and pronunciation) to the language of Shakespeare than is modern British English. This grammar is written to the traditional standards of English teaching, in which understandability and correctness took precedence over the pseudo-psychology of undisciplinable self-esteem-ism. The grammar starts with a quick, high-level survey of the English language, aspects of its history and dialects. Then it presents schemas of the parts of speech and aspects of each that will be treated in the text. The grammar itself proceeds through each part of speech, starting with general descriptions and progressing to more detailed points and explanations. After this, aspects of the sentence are covered, followed by concise rules for capitalization and punctuation. Within the section for each part of speech and for the sentence are given points of correct or suggested usage. Copious examples are given for each description, rule or suggestion. The final part of the text covers Structural analysis of sentences and the clauses of which they are constructed. Parsing is treated first, with parsed selections taken from the examples given in the Grammar portion of the text. After that, extensive instructions are given for traditional diagramming and for an updated adaptation of traditional diagramming called "Qualls Concise Diagramming." "QCD" is built on the constructs of Reed/Kellogg diagramming, but incorporates improvements, in particular to representation of compound and complex components that too often resulted in indistinct representation or in spaghettification of the traditional diagrams. This book is an excellent study aid for the higher levels of grade school, for middle school, high school and even college students. It is vital for anyone whose job depends on the quality and effectiveness of their use of English, that is, all those in business, in broadcasting and those involved in writing, whether that be informal, commercial or literary. The book's extremely thorough presentation of diagramming will please those Americans who have become frustrated with the horrible decline both in standards of teaching materials and in the thoroughness of grammatical instruction. These will want to get copies to give to those friends and family members preparing for college entrance tests or for jobs that are highly language influenced or dependent.

Book Jane Doe January

Download or read book Jane Doe January written by Emily Winslow and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2016-05-24 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the vein of Alice Sebold’s Lucky, comes a compelling, real-life crime mystery and gripping memoir of the cold case prosecution of a serial rapist, told by one of his victims. On the morning of September 12, 2013, a fugitive task force arrested Arthur Fryar at his apartment in Brooklyn. His DNA, entered in the FBI’s criminal database after a drug conviction, had been matched to evidence from a rape in Pennsylvania years earlier. Over the next year, Fryar and his lawyer fought his extradition and prosecution for the rape—and another like it—which occurred in 1992. The victims—one from January of that year, the other from November—were kept anonymous in the media. This is the story of Jane Doe January. Emily Winslow was a young drama student at Carnegie Mellon University’s elite conservatory in Pittsburgh when a man brutally attacked and raped her in January 1992. While the police's search for her rapist proved futile, Emily reclaimed her life. Over the course of the next two decades, she fell in love, married, had two children, and began writing mystery novels set in her new hometown of Cambridge, England. Then, in fall 2013, she received shocking news—the police had found her rapist. This is her intimate memoir—the story of a woman’s traumatic past catching up with her, in a country far from home, surrounded by people who have no idea what she’s endured. Caught between past and present, and between two very different cultures, the inquisitive and restless crime novelist searches for clarity. Beginning her own investigation, she delves into Fryar’s family and past, reconnects with the detectives of her case, and works with prosecutors in the months leading to trial. As she recounts her long-term quest for closure, Winslow offers a heartbreakingly honest look at a vicious crime—and offers invaluable insights into the mind and heart of a victim.

Book Jane Doe No More

Download or read book Jane Doe No More written by M. William Phelps and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2012-09-06 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1993, Donna Palomba was raped by a masked assailant in her own home. Yet, her story is more than a victim’s tale of physical and emotional recovery. It is a story of one woman’s hunt for justice while fending off attacks by institutions designed to defend and protect her—the police department, the local government, and a community clinging to an outrageous claim that Donna had invented the crime to cover up a sexual affair. From the night of the attack, the botched crime scene investigation, and the abuse as authorities attempted to close the case by discrediting her, Donna was left as a victim with no name and no identity. Meanwhile, there was one courageous detective, later to become chief of police, who broke a cops’ code of silence in the name of justice. As they fought on, a legal battle ensued after the Waterbury Police Department—now with media support—refused to let go of its allegations against her and admit wrongdoing. Finally, after eleven years of struggle, Donna learned the identity of her attacker from the chief of police, who explained that the DNA from the rape kit taken a decade ago had turned up a shocking match. In 2007, Donna Palomba was the subject of a special two-hour Dateline episode about her case. Suddenly, she was Jane Doe no more, launching the Jane Doe No More organization and becoming a promoter of the rights of women and victims of sexual assault. With the help of crime investigator and author M. William Phelps, this is her story.
