By coercion and bribery of high-ranking government and military officials, the organization infiltrates thousands of recently discharged veterans, sympathetic to the cause, back into strategic military positions. The plan: isolate the nation's Capitol under the guise of martial law, then bring down the President's administration. Right from the outset, things don't go as planned. Six political assassinations, several violent bombings, and the escape of two petty convicts from an Arkansas prison unwittingly cause a chain of events that disrupts Bull Jackson's takeover timetable. Secret Service Agents MacAllister Fox and Roger Cassidy, along with Sheriff Sam Walker of Johnson County, Arkansas, try to track down the elusive Bull Jackson and his followers, but they always seem to remain a step behind.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tyler McKenzie Johns is an excellent story creator. He is a true man of genius. He created this story with monsters and villains that he made up in his past like somebody evil killing the purple dinosaur on TV, Barney, evil knights fighting the dragons of the PBS Kids show Dragon Tales, and monsters abducting the puppet lions of another PBS Kids show called Between the Lions. For this story, he created characters as animals only he would know things about, like prehistoric therapsids (half mammal, half reptile) and cassowaries, which are large black-feathered-bodied birds with blue heads with bony crests on top; those birds are related to ostriches and emus (ratites).

Book excerpt: Friedrich Schiller, the great German classical poet and friend of the American Revolution, assigned to art the task of ennobling the spirit of Man, especially at those times when political circumstances are most unfavorable, men most degraded, and when the qualities of genius are most urgently required to find a way to avert political catastrophe. Volume II includes Schiller Institute English translations of the following: Wilhelm Tell The Parasite What Is, and to What End Do We Study, Universal History The Legislation of Lycurgus and Solon On Grace and Dignity Kalias, or, On the Beautiful The Mission of Moses
Download or read book When They Come for You written by David Kirby and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2019-10-29 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revealing book about how government, law enforcement, and bureaucratic interests are seizing our property, our children, our savings, and our fundamental American rights—and how to fight back. Liberty and justice for all is the bedrock of American democracy, but has America betrayed our founders’ vision for the nation? In When They Come For You, New York Times bestselling author David Kirby exposes federal, state, and local violations of basic constitutional rights that should trouble every American, whether liberal, conservative, or libertarian. Free speech, privacy, protection from unreasonable search and seizure, due process, and equal protection under the law are rights that belong to every American citizen, but are being shredded at an alarming rate all across the country. Police and prosecutorial misconduct, overzealous bureaucrats with virtually unchecked power, unwarranted searches, SWAT-style raids on the homes of innocent Americans, crackdowns on a free press and the right to protest, removing children from their parents without cause, “debtors prisons," restricting freedom of health choice, seizing private assets for government profit, and much more demonstrate how deeply our rights and our national values are eroding. When They Come For You uses true stories of everyday citizens to reveal how our federal, state, and municipal governments, police, lawmakers, judges, revenue agents, unelected power brokers, and even government social workers are eviscerating our most fundamental liberties. And, it shows how people are fighting back—and winning.
Download or read book We ll Always Have the Movies written by Robert L. McLaughlin and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2006-03-03 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We'll Always Have the Movies explores how movies made in Hollywood during World War II were vehicles for helping Americans understand the war. Far from being simplistic, flag-waving propaganda designed to evoke emotional reactions, these films offered audiences narrative structures that formed a foundation for grasping the nuances of war. These films asked audiences to consider the implications of the Nazi threat, they put a face on both our enemies and allies, and they explored changing wartime gender roles. We'll Always Have the Movies reveals how film after film repeated the narratives, character types, and rhetoric that made the war and each American's role in it comprehensible. Robert L. McLaughlin and Sally E. Parry have screened more than 600 movies made between 1937 and 1946—including many never before discussed in this context—and have analyzed the cultural and historical importance of these films in explaining the war to moviegoers. Pre-Pearl Harbor films such as Sergeant York, Foreign Correspondent, and The Great Dictator established the rationale for the war in Europe. After the United States entered the war, films such as Air Force, So Proudly We Hail! and Back to Bataan conveyed reasons for U.S. involvement in the Pacific. The Hitler Gang, Sahara, and Bataan defined our enemies; and Mrs. Miniver, Mission to Moscow, and Dragon Seed defined our allies. Some movies—The Miracle of Morgan's Creek, Hail the Conquering Hero, and Lifeboat among them—explored homefront anxieties about the war's effects on American society. Of the many films that sought to explain the politics behind and the social impact of the war—and why it concerned Americans—Casablanca is perhaps one of the most widely recognized. McLaughlin and Parry argue that Rick's Café Américain serves as a United Nations, sheltering characters who represent countries being oppressed by Germany. At Rick's, these characters learn that they share a common love of freedom, which is embodied in patriotism; from this commonality, they overcome their differences and work together to solve a conflict that affects them all. As the representative American, Rick Blain (Humphrey Bogart) cannot idly stand by in the face of injustice, and he ultimately sides with those being oppressed. Bogart's character is a metaphor for America, which could also come out of its isolationism to be a true world leader and unite with its allies to defeat a common enemy. Collectively, Hollywood's war-era films created a mythic history of the war that, even today, has more currency than the actual events of World War II.
