Download or read book Triumphant Warriors in a Turbulent World written by Danny Callahan and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2008-11 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible clearly tells us that the end of time is near. The devil is constantly assaulting God's people with devastating forms of spiritual warfare. This war is being waged world wide. The battlefield is in the heart of every believer and the souls of mankind are the prize. We, as Christians, must not fear and give up. God is on our side and we will win. We are instructed to put on the whole armor of God. But what are our weapons? How do we learn to use them? How do we fight an unseen enemy? What does God expect of us? Can we really be victorious? The purpose of this book is to show how God's Word answers these questions. It is my desire that you fully comprehend what God has given to me, so - "I've tried to write it, so that you can understand it." In 1970, while a senior at the University of Georgia, Danny Callahan, received his calling into the ministry. God's words were crystal clear that day, as He shared His will for Danny's life. Then the Lord ended His instructions with these words, "I want you to say it so that they can understand." After graduation Danny entered the job market and pursued his own dreams. But "the calling" haunted him day and night. After struggling for two years, he surrendered his will to God, and his life has never been the same. He started his first youth group in 1973 and served as a youth minister for the next twenty years. In August of 1993 he accepted the pastorate of Kettle Creek Church, in Waycross, Georgia. He has faithfully ministered there for the past fifteen years and continues to humbly serve as their Shepherd.

Book excerpt: The true story of Bronze Star recipient Allen Weseleskey and his high-risk rescue mission, carried out under heavy fire in Vietnam. Includes photos. When the going is fast and rough, I will not falter. I will be uncompromising in every blow I strike. I will be humble in victory. I am a United States Navy Flyer. —from “A Navy Flyer’s Creed” Barely a month after the start of the Tet Offensive in 1968, a Navy flyer applied this creed—and dared to risk not only his career but also his and his fellow aircrewmen’s lives in rescuing a wounded US Army advisor only moments from certain battlefield death. The pilot, Lt. Cdr. Allen E. “Wes” Weseleskey, had been assigned to the Navy’s Helicopter Attack (Light) Squadron Three, the “Seawolves,” at the Vinh Long Army Airfield. His controversial mission took place in March 1968 in the Mekong Delta region. Two ARVN companies were being overwhelmed and despite coming under heavy fire, Weseleskey decided to go in and rescue as many survivors as possible. The accompanying Seawolf was forced to turn back after taking hits, but Weseleskey, with the agreement of his crew, persisted—flying so low under the treeline that they were out of reach of the VC rocket launchers. Weseleskey was awarded the Bronze Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Navy Cross during his service. This is his story, from early assignments, clashes with superior officers, missions and rescues during the Tet Offensive, to homecoming. It is the story of a quintessential flyer, an American hero who was prepared to speak his mind and take risks—and of the vital role of the Seawolves in the Vietnam War.

Each of us struggles every day to define and defend our sense of purpose and integrity, to justify our existence on the planet and to understand, if only within our own hearts, who we are and what we believe in. Do we fight by a code? If so, what is it? What is the Warrior Ethos? Where did it come from? What form does it take today? How do we (and how can we) use it and be true to it in our internal and external lives? The Warrior Ethos is intended not only for men and women in uniform, but artists, entrepreneurs and other warriors in other walks of life. The book examines the evolution of the warrior code of honor and "mental toughness." It goes back to the ancient Spartans and Athenians, to Caesar's Romans, Alexander's Macedonians and the Persians of Cyrus the Great (not excluding the Garden of Eden and the primitive hunting band). Sources include Herodotus, Thucydides, Plutarch, Xenophon, Vegetius, Arrian and Curtius--and on down to Gen. George Patton, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, and Israeli Minister of Defense, Moshe Dayan.

Book Warrior Mother

Download or read book Warrior Mother written by Sheila K. Collins and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-08-28 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Warrior Mother is the true story of a mother’s fierce love and determination, and her willingness to go outside the bounds of the ordinary when two of her three adult children are diagnosed with life-threatening diseases. When Sheila Collins’s best friend, dying of breast cancer, asked her to accompany her through what turned out to be the last fourteen days of her life, she didn’t know that the experience was preparing her for what lay ahead with her own children. In the years that followed, Collins had to face both her son’s diagnosis with AIDS and her daughter’s diagnosis with breast cancer. Warrior Mother documents how she faces these challenges and the issues accompanying them—from learning to be the mother of a gay son to visiting a healer in Brazil on her daughter’s behalf when she decides on bone marrow transplant treatment. Experience as a professional social worker and family therapist doesn’t always help Collins to cope with her children’s illnesses—but her relationship with improvisational song, dance, storytelling, and women’s spirituality rituals carries her through. Warrior Mother follows Collins’s family through memorials and celebrations of lives well lived, all the while exploring the impact of grief on those left behind and the rituals that help them heal.

Download or read book This Present Triumph written by Richard M. Cozart and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-09-17 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The author of Ephesians shows an interest in the Isaianic new exodus (INE) in facilitating his focus on the present triumph of the people of God. The recipients required both insight and confidence, especially in regard to the certainty of their salvation, its mysterious nature, Jewish-Gentile relations, and their former manner of life. In the face of these challenges the author maintains that victory is secured through God's choice of them and the working of his redemptive program--which inevitably leads to triumphal blessings. As with the exodus-era Hebrews, the readers participate in paschal redemption, now embodied in Christ, along with his resurrection and ascension as the triumphant new exodus warrior over principalities and powers. In addition, and as predicted by OT writers, Gentile proselytes share the blessings of the new exodus, but now on equal footing and access as Jewish Christians--creating a new eschatological temple. Triumphant Christ distributes gifts, facilitates Spirit-endowed living, and enables Christian warfare that mirrors Yahweh and his servant. The recipients of the epistle appear to be called to view INE triumph as above, below, now and not yet, while not discarding current applications on earth. "
