Book A Critical Reading of the Development of Raimon Panikkar s Thought on the Trinity

Download or read book A Critical Reading of the Development of Raimon Panikkar s Thought on the Trinity written by Camilia Gangasingh MacPherson and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 1996 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book traces the Trinitarian thought of Raimon Panikkar in his attempt to bridge the gap between Christianity and the world religions. The viewpoints of the early and later Panikkar show continuity and shifts in his Trinitarian theology. The early Panikkar provides a Trinitarian theology and reaches the heart of the world religions, especially the Advaita Vedanta experience in Hinduism and the Nirvana experience of Buddhism. The later Panikkar, still using many of the probing concepts of his earlier thought, departs significantly from traditional Christian theology. His thoughts still continue the attempt at bridge-building between Christianity on the one hand and the world religions, and even the secular world, on the other. Although several dimensions of Panikkar's Trinitarian theology are open to severe criticism, nevertheless, it serves as an effective tool for furthering awareness of and dialogue between the world religions.

Book The Cosmotheandric Experience

Download or read book The Cosmotheandric Experience written by Raimundo Panikkar and published by Motilal Banarsidass Publishe. This book was released on 1998 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cosmotheandric Experience is not a Christian, or an Indic, or a Buddhist study, but an interdisciplinary study with a firm foundation. It aims at an integration of the whole of reality: We have to reconstruct the body of Prajapati, even if some of the parts feel unworthy, are shy or run away ... We have to think of all of the fragments of the present world in order to bring them together into a harmonious--though not monoliithic--whole. The Cosmotheandric principle, which the author advocates, could be formulated by saying that the divine, the human and the earthly are three irreducible dimensions which constitute the real.

Now one class of such men endeavor to transfer to things incorporeal and spiritual the ideas they have formed, whether through experience of the bodily senses, or by natural human wit and diligent quickness, or by the aid of art, from things corporeal; so as to seek to measure and conceive of the former by the latter. Book excerpt: The Divine Dance has become a classic for fans of Richard Rohr and an important book on Christian mysticism, it provides a fresh perspective for anyone studying or teaching the trinity. The Trinity is the central doctrine of Christianity, but it is still widely considered a mystery we won't ever fully understand. Should we still try to understand it, even so? If we could, how would it transform our relationship with God? In this stimulating and thought-provoking book, internationally recognised teacher Richard Rohr explores the nature of God and the paradoxical idea of the Holy Trinity as both three and one. With clear, surefooted wisdom, he encourages us to build on the early Christian understanding of the relationship between Father, Son and Spirit as a flow and dance - a Divine Dance - that we are invited to join in. An engaging, accessible look at the nature of God, The Divine Dance will challenge the way you think about the Trinity and give you a much fuller understanding of the triune relationship that is at the heart of Christian doctrine. It will leave you with a faith that is renewed and strengthened, and show you how you can engage more deeply in your relationship with God and the world through the Trinity.

Book Multiple Religious Belonging and the Theology of the Trinity

Download or read book Multiple Religious Belonging and the Theology of the Trinity written by Servasius S. Jaman and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of multiple religious belonging has been contentious in the field of theology. It is contentious since, for some theologians, religious belonging ideally demands a total commitment to one religion. However, as the first chapter of this thesis shows, multiple religious belonging has been practiced in most parts of Asia. In Asia, multiple religious belonging is a common reality because religious belonging is regarded as belonging to a culture that is characterized by multi-religious traditions. The purpose of this thesis is to provide a theological foundation for a better understanding of the issue of multiple religious belonging. To this end, the thesis employs the theology of the Trinity according to a Spanish-Indian theologian, Raimon Panikkar (1918-2010).The second chapter introduces Panikkar and his view on multiple religious belonging. The chapter also describes how Panikkar in the course of his life and through his work relentlessly endeavored to experience other religious traditions from within those traditions. The third chapter discusses Panikkar's theology of the Trinity based on his two main works: The Trinity and the Religious Experience of Man (1973); and The Rhythm of Being: The Unbroken Trinity (2010). Panikkar argues that the Trinity is not specific to Christianity since the Trinity can also be found and experienced in other religions. For Panikkar, despite the cultural-historical limitation, world religions share a fundamental Trinitarian character. The notion of perichoresis is an important insight of Panikkar that helps explain the relationship among the various world religions and lays a theological foundation for the phenomenon of multiple religious belonging. The fourth chapter discusses the relevance of the topic in the field of the theology of religions and the relevance for the missionary activity of the Society of the Divine Word or SVD. Panikkar's theology of the Trinity provides us an insight that religious others are not to be considered as objects of theological interpretation of the Western mindset, but rather as subjects which have the right to self-determination and to develop their own theologies. Panikkar's theology of the Trinity can also aid the congregation to fulfill its mission.

Book The Third Person of the Trinity

Download or read book The Third Person of the Trinity written by Zondervan, and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Fresh Look at the Holy Spirit. Recent decades have recognized pneumatology—the theology of the Holy Spirit—as a critical component in Christian thought, worthy of increased attention. While scholarly discussion about the Spirit is both creative and lively, it does sometimes occur in outlying areas of doctrine and practice rather than within its context of the doctrine of God. The Third Person of the Trinity represents the proceedings of the 2020 Los Angeles Theology Conference, which examined pneumatology as a core component of the doctrine of the Trinity, offering constructive proposals for understanding the doctrine of the Holy Spirit with theological and historical depth, ecumenical scope, and analytic clarity. The twelve diverse essays in this collection include discussions on: Understanding the Holy Spirit’s presence in creation. The mystery of the Trinity and the procession of the Spirit. An exploration of a Black American pneumatology of freedom. Exploring pneumatology alongside sorrow and suffering. Each of the essays collected in this volume engage with Scripture as well as with others in the field—theologians both past and present, from different confessions—in order to provide constructive resources for contemporary systematic theology and to forge a theology for the future.

Book The Divine Trinity

    Book Details:
  • Author : David Brown
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2012-01-09

Download or read book The Divine Trinity written by David Brown and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-01-09 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, the first serious analysis of the doctrine of the Trinity for many years, presents a defense against the conservative treatment of the Trinity as an impenetrable "mystery," and against the radical position that the doctrine is incoherent and therefore unacceptable. Brown favors "the founding of a new discipline of philosophical theology (or the widening of the horizons of the philosophy of religion) to apply more widely the type of penetration of theology by philosophy" that he exemplifies in his treatment of the Trinity. He argues for belief in an interventionist God (theism rather than deism), and contends that biblical criticism and historical research do not imply the abandonment of Christian belief, since "the historical original" should not be equated with "theological truth." Although historical difficulties must prevent any literal acceptance of the Gospel accounts in toto, "the true Christ" can be disentangled from "the historical Jesus" by philosophical method. Wide-ranging in scope, rigorous and candid in argument, Brown's work will prove of interest to educated Christian laypersons and others beyond the boundaries of professional theology and philosophy of religion. Perhaps most provocative is Brown's assertion that the Resurrection must be accepted as a literally true visionary experience, and that anyone who accepts it must be prepared to take seriously other visionary experiences, for example, visions of the Virgin Mary, even if he rejects them in the end. "It is certainly an astonishing truth that God should be so interested in a being of such vastly inferior powers as man," says the author. "But that clearly must be the implication of the doctrine of the Trinity . . ." To have reached this conclusion by means of philosophical argument is to have taken a major step toward the "complete penetration of theology by philosophy" that Brown calls for.
