Download or read book Analyzing Demand Behavior written by Douglas R. Bohi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 2011. This title takes econometric studies as data; it examines their assumptions, investigates their methodologies, contrasts the data sets they use, and compares their results. By informing users what they can and cannot expect from researchers, it can sharpen the criteria that are used to commission such studies and judge their results. By examining an array of studies dealing with the same or related phenomena, Bohi can analyse the ways in which decisions made by researchers affect their results. All while considering inferences surrounding the role of econometric demand estimation in formulating policy and understanding demand behavior.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an internationally comprehensive perspective into the field of complex systems. It explores the challenges of and approaches to complexity from a broad range of disciplines, including big data, health care, medicine, mathematics, mechanical and systems engineering, air traffic control and finance. The book’s interdisciplinary character allows readers to identify transferable and mutually exclusive lessons learned among these disciplines and beyond. As such, it is well suited to the transfer of applications and methodologies between ostensibly incompatible disciplines. This book provides fresh perspectives on comparable issues of complexity from the top minds on systems thinking.

Download or read book Environmental Impact IV written by J. Casares and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2018-10-23 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprising a collection of papers from the 4th International Conference on Environmental and Economic Impact on Sustainable Development, the research studies included in this book consider the impact of economic constraints on the environment, taking into account the social aspects as well as the over-use of natural resources. The papers examine issues related to whether some forms of development are compatible with environmental protection, particularly in cases of possible serious contamination and toxicity. Uncontrolled development can result in damage to the environment in terms of the release of toxic substances and hazardous waste. Addressing problems of great importance, this book examines more constructive and progressive approaches to ensure sustainability. A major motivation is to learn from past failure, to avoid repeating similar mistakes, while attempting to prevent emerging threats to environmental and ecological systems. Fundamental to these concepts are the analysis of the inherent risk and the development of appropriate strategies.

Download or read book Energy Economics written by Peter Zweifel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-27 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to energy economics. It shows how to apply general economic theory as well as empirical and advanced econometric methods to explain the drivers of energy markets and their development. Readers learn about the specific properties of energy markets as well as the physical, technological, environmental, and geopolitical particularities of energy sources and products. The book covers all types of energy markets, ranging from liquid fuels, gaseous fuels, and solid fuels to electricity. It also addresses emission allowances, energy efficiency, and nuclear risks. The authors discuss the engineering properties of energy technologies including renewables, the economics of natural resources and environmental protection, market liberalization, and energy trade as well as the experience of the German energy transformation. This book will serve students as a textbook and practitioners as a reference for their understanding of energy markets and their development.
Download or read book Technical Change and Economic Growth written by George M. Korres and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technological change is not only a determinant of growth but is also a pivotal factor in international competition and the modernization of an economy. In one of the most in-depth and detailed studies of its kind, George Korres analyzes the macroeconomic and the microeconomic factors influencing the economics of innovation and the economic relations between technology, innovation, knowledge and productivity. In particular, this book examines both the theoretical framework and the applications for empirical results. This second edition contributes updated figures and estimations for technical change from EU member states and features new subjects, including growth models, productivity models, production function models and non-parametric models. In one of the most in-depth and detailed studies of its kind, this book captures all the existing contemporary techniques in the theoretical fields as well as the empirical applications of the models.
Download or read book Agricultural Research for Sustainable Food Systems in Sri Lanka written by Ranjith Premalal De Silva and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Food systems involve a range of activities concerning food production, processing, distribution, marketing and trade, preparation, consumption and disposal. They encompass the path of food from the farm to the dinner table, meeting the food and nutritional needs of a nation. When such systems do so without sacrificing the needs of future generations, they are referred to as “Sustainable Food Systems.” The natural and physical environment, infrastructure, institutions, society and culture, and policies and regulations within which they operate, as well as the technologies they adopt, shape these systems’ outcomes. Making food systems more sustainable is a key priority for all nations, and Sri Lanka is no exception. Food systems deliver optimal performance when the policy and regulatory environment is conducive, institutions are supportive, and a combination of agricultural research investments and an efficient extension system generates the technologies and scientific evidence required for sound policymaking and agenda setting. Further, agricultural research can generate essential findings, technologies and policies for sustainable agricultural development – across disciplines, sectors and stakeholder groups. This book shares valuable insights into research conducted in the broad food and agriculture sectors in Sri Lanka. It also discusses the status quo in related disciplines, and outlines future research directions. Accordingly, it offers a valuable source of reference material for researchers, students, and stakeholders in the food and agriculture sectors, while also highlighting the types of support that policymakers and other decision-makers can provide.

Download or read book Pakistan Productivity Profile 1965 2005 written by Dr. Hafiz Khalil Ahmad and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-09-15 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is focused to point out sources of economic growth and estimation of total factor productivity (TFP) for the Pakistan economy, as a whole, as well as for its major sectors (agriculture, manufacturing, and services). For this purpose the study utilized three different techniques to obtain reliable estimates of TFP for Pakistan economy. These techniques are, growth accounting technique, index number technique and econometric technique. The study covers the period from 1965 to 2005. The empirical evidence indicates that traditional measures of TFP tend to overestimate, by ignoring variation in work hours, education and skills, as well as variation in capacity utilization resulting from business fluctuations. This study avoids pitfalls of earlier studies by improving upon reliable measures of factor inputs. This feature of the study makes it distinct from previous studies and enables it to provide reliable results. Hence, based upon such reliable results efficient economic policy may be formulated.
Download or read book Production Economics An Empirical Approach written by Charles Britt Moss and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2022-02-25 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Production economics is that branch of microeconomics that examines producer decisions. This book focuses on the empirical estimation of these relationships using primal, dual, and differential specifications. The primal specification models production decisions based on the production function — estimation of the input/output relationship and the derivation of optimization behavior from this technical relationship. The dual approach estimates production decisions using economic information such as input and output prices. The textbook then develops the linkages between these relationships. The differential specification is an alternative approach derived from changes in the first-order conditions from cost minimizing behavior. In each case, the theoretical development is followed by different empirical specifications that can be used to estimate the producer's choice.
