Book The Transformation of Labour Law in Europe

Download or read book The Transformation of Labour Law in Europe written by Bob Hepple and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2009-09-02 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The labour laws of European democracies all underwent major transformations in the seven decades after the Second World War. Following reconstruction, these laws became an essential element in the building of welfare states; in the 1980s and 1990s they were the target of neo-liberal deregulation; and at the beginning of the 21st century new 'flexible' labour laws have attempted to integrate economic and social policy. This book, a sequel to 'The Making of Labour Law in Europe- A Comparative Study of Nine Countries up to 1945' (ed. B Hepple), compares the similarities and differences in the ways in which EU Member States reflected and shaped these general developments, in the context of economic, social and political changes over the period 1945-2004. Note: the Publishers are issuing a reprint of the first volume, 'The Making of Labour Law in Europe - A Comparative Study of Nine Countries up to 1945' to coincide with publication of the sequel. The great strength of the collection is on the focus on context, with chapters looking at developments in labour market trends and structures of worker represntation.

Book Labor in Finland

Download or read book Labor in Finland written by Carl Erik Knoellinger and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1960 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finland's precarious proximity to Russia makes this small country a unique and revealing study in contemporary social and economic patterns. The author demonstrates that "in spite of Finland's deep-rooted cultural kinship with Scandinavia...new factors, often political in nature, have affected the development of society very differently in each of these countries." One of the most decisive differences, as his book makes clear, is the position of the Communist party in Finnish politics. In this first English book on the Finnish situation, Carl Erik Knoellinger makes perceptive analyses of detailed data on the varied aspects of his subject.

Book The Global Economy National States and the Regulation of Labour

Download or read book The Global Economy National States and the Regulation of Labour written by Paul Edwards and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-03 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The implications of globalization for labour are more often asserted than analyzed. This collection, and its companion volume Globalization and Patterns of Labour Resistance edited by Jeremy Waddington, seek to remedy this deficiency by presenting contemporary research on the relationship between the globalization of production and the regulation of labour. It considers the ways in which national and supra-national regimes of labour regulation are being actively reconstructed in the context of the internationalization of production. The contributors analyze the implications of changes in different national labour regimes for relations between state, capital and labour, and for class and gender segmentation, and discuss the scope and limits of recent initiatives in the implementation of international labour standards.

Book Employment the Focus of Collective Bargaining in Europe

Download or read book Employment the Focus of Collective Bargaining in Europe written by and published by Presses univ. de Louvain. This book was released on 2001 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The insertion in June 1997 of a Title on employment in the Treaty on European Union has accelerated the drafting of European policy in this field over the last few years. This European dynamic has had widespread impact on the themes and mechanisms that characterise national systems of industrial relations. On the one hand, employment is increasingly governed by rules negotiated between the social partners and, depending on the circumstances, the State. This phenomenon of joint labour market regulation is confirmed by a marked desire on the part of employers' associations and trade unions to integrate employment-related issues into their actions and negotiations. On the other hand, the incorporation of employment-related themes by employers’ associations and trade unions, usually in concertation with government policies, is related with greater coordination of bargaining and concertation mechanisms established at European level and within each Member State. Today, the various national realities appear to be directed to various degrees by these two general tendencies. These phenomena active in the field of employment bargaining must therefore be analysed on three counts: the first focuses on the development of the coordination mechanisms that structure these negotiations, and more specifically raises the issue of co-responsibility for the labour market; the second deals with the strict content of employment bargaining, and examines the question of negotiated flexibility of working conditions and employment; the third addresses the autonomy of collective bargaining in Europe. This analysis informs our research, which is in turn intimately linked to recent changes taking place in national systems of industrial relations.
