Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Training of Children in Religion Sometimes when a child thus nurtured grows into youth and comes at last into his inevitable independence, and his own true will appears, his parents are much surprised. Thus and thus he did when he could not help himself, but now he is revealed. The father and mother cannot understand how their son who was such a quiet and gentle lad at home, and whose marks for conduct were so good in the private school, can be have at college as if he had a devil. They are rather inclined to lay the blame upon the devil. But the probable reason for the difference is in the fact that the boy had only a dependent goodness. The obedi ence which he showed was of their impos ing, not of his own choosing. They con trolled him, but they did not educate him. They did not bring him up so that he freely and naturally and gladly preferred the good. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Religious Training of Children Magnitude predominates in human ideals. Rev. Jonathan Edwards could scarcely find words strong enough to depict the horrors and the everlastingness Of the agonies of sin ners in the hands of an angry God, and the exultant jubila tions of the saints in heaven in witnessing these sufferings. God will get himself honor upon you, will magnify himself in your ruin. When the saints in heaven look upon the damned in hell, with how much enlargement of the heart will they praise Jesus who was pleased so to distinguish them, who deserved no better than they. Hymns of like character were extensively used in churches and committed to memory by children in homes and elsewhere. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Training of the Twig (Religious Education of Children) "Neglect of the art of education simply means that the teacher must, at best, blunder his way to success, laboriously correct his errors by the failure or mischief produced, and slowly discover things for himself which others have discovered before him. Why should we tread the thorny path of error, or traverse the dreary swamps of failure, when a safer, pleasanter, and shorter path has been pointed out to us by those who have travelled the road before us?" Book The Training of Children in the Christian Family Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Training of Children in the Christian Family Classic Reprint written by Luther Allan Weigle and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-26 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Training of Children in the Christian Family This is a book for parents which deals with princi ples rather than with problems or cases. It aims to help parents to think for themselves; and does not undertake to present ready-made formulas for the training of children or prescriptions for use in various emergencies. It is not mere theory, how ever; most of its materials lie within the author's experience as parent and as teacher. The outline of the book is that of an introductory course for the training of parents, prepared and released by the International Sunday School Lesson Committee under the title of Hints on Child Training, as one of its elective courses for adult classes in the Sunday school. The editors of The Church School requested me to prepare a series of articles, following this outline, which might be used as a basis for study and discussion in parents' classes. In that form, the chapters of this book appeared in that publication, and have been used as a course of study by classes of parents in Sunday schools of various denominations, and as the basis for a year's programs and discussions by mothers' clubs and parent-teacher associations. It is hoped that the book may find a yet wider use by such classes and groups, as well as commend itself to the reading of individual fathers and mothers. My thanks are due to the editors of The Church School. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2018-02-27 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from God's Little Children, Their Nature and Religious Training for Kindergarten and Primary Teachers The years between six and nine, with both boys and girls, are marked by decided physical and mental Changes. The appearance of the second teeth is an outward Sign of the passing of babyhood, and the change in mentality warns us that the brain is rapidly developing and that new connections are being made between the nerve centers. One writer says, This wild animal period, which demands outdoor beds at home and loosened seats at school, is doubtless the era of a Struggle for a physical constitution. All the endurance, the reserve power, the tenacity of later years is being stored up during these treasure-house years between five and twelve. During the last three or four of these years, vitality is a little less exuberant. They might be called the special period of restful growth. Mentally, they are somewhat stolid and Silent. Book Our Children Classic Reprint

Download or read book Our Children Classic Reprint written by Atticus G. Haygood and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-19 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Our Children How strikingly simple, and yet how specially minute, this divine order is! These four conditions in domes tic life leave no unfilled space. And I doubtless say no more than is true when I say, Solomon's training up of children in the way they should go, was in this way. The Spirit Of inspiration has but one way in carrying out any one Of the specified duties Of revealed religion. The two conditions in domestic life, called lying down and rising up, cannot mean any thing else than family worship. And no one pretending to religion would ever presume to say he had trained his children in the way in which they should go, if he had trained them, by exam ple, to live and raise up children without morning and evening prayer. This original order for family religion and family instruction is more especially specified by the prophet Isaiah, both as to age and manner, when he asks: Whom shall he teach knowledge? And whom shall he make to understand doctrine? Them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breast. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Religious Education in the Home Parents should find encouragement in the thought that there is reasonable certainty of successful outcome to a wisely conducted process Of religious education. If they properly and faithfully instruct and train their children in the principles Of morality and religion, securing for them wholesome association and environment, availing themselves of all the great and gracious helps provided by the gospel Of Christ, there should be very little doubt as to the results. The ancient declaration stands that a child thoroughly trained into the ways and habits of righteousness is not likely to depart from those ways in sabse quent years. If parents will employ the proper means they may have strong assurance that they may have the happiness Of seeing their children develop into the strength and beauty of Christian character. Download or read book Parenthood and Child Nurture Classic Reprint written by Edna Dean Baker and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-07 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Parenthood and Child Nurture The spiritual nurture and religious training of the world's childhood is vital to all we hold dear in our Chris tian civilization. In this work of child training, the home holds the strategic place. It has the children in its care in the early years before they are old enough to attend either the Public School or the Church School. The im pressions of these years determine or modify the whole of the life that follows. Even later, the children spend many more hours in the home than they do in either the Church or Public School. The training of parents for the task of child training in the home, therefore, becomes one of the Church's great est responsibilities. To perform this service effectively. Book Hints on Child Training

Download or read book Hints on Child Training written by H. Clay Trumbull and published by Ravenio Books. This book was released on 1891 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hints on Child-Training may be helpful, where a formal treatise on the subject would prove bewildering. It is easier to see how one phase or another of children’s needs is to be met, than it is to define the relation of that phase of the case to all other phases, or to a system that includes them all. Therefore it is that this series of Hints is ventured by me for the benefit of young parents, although I would not dare attempt a systematic treatise on the entire subject here touched upon. Thirty years ago, when I was yet a young father, a friend, who knew that I had for years been interested in the study of methods of education, said to me, “Trumbull, what is your theory of child-training?” “Theory?” I responded. “I have no theory in that matter. I had lots of theories before I had any children; but now I do, with fear and trembling, in every case just that which seems to be the better thing for the hour, whether it agrees with any of my old theories or not.” Whatever theory of child-training may show itself in these Hints, has been arrived at by induction in the process of my experiences with children since I had to deal with the matter practically, apart from any preconceived view of the principles involved. Every suggestion in these Hints is an outcome of experiment and observation in my life as a father and a grandfather, while it has been carefully considered in the light of the best lessons of practical educators on every side. These Hints were begun for the purpose of giving help to a friend. They were continued because of the evident popular interest in them. They are sent out in this completed form in the hope that they will prove of service to parents who are feeling the need of something more practical in the realm of child-training than untested theories. H. Clay Trumbull Philadelphia, September 15, 1890 This classic parenting manual includes the following chapters: 1. Child-Training: What Is It? 2. The Duty of Training Children 3. Scope and Limitations of Child-Training 4. Discerning a Child’s Special Need of Training 5. Will-Training, Rather than Will-Breaking 6. The Place of “Must” in Training 7. Denying a Child Wisely 8.
