Book Horse Training by Modern Methods Classic Reprint

Download or read book Horse Training by Modern Methods Classic Reprint written by Alan Melvill Pope and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-03 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Horse Training by Modern Methods The object of this book is to arrange in the most convenient, clear, and concise form the modern system of horse-training, in so far as it is applicable to the train ing of horses in the mounted service of the United States. No attempt has been made in any case to improve upon methods already deemed correct by the best horse men; and as such methods can be found dealing with all points of training, it follows that the subject matter in this book is not original. Where the best was to be found, there it has been sought, and where the authors of previous works have expressed their ideas in language considered the most concise and clear, their words have been copied verbatim, with due acknowledgement to the authors. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A System of School Training for Horses I think it fit that I should offer some explanation for advocating the school system of training, since it is generally regarded as something fanciful and useless, if not positively mischievous. I shall first say a few words con cerning the importance of a thorough method in the training of horses for the saddle, and I shall then answer. Book Breaking and Training Horses Classic Reprint

Download or read book Breaking and Training Horses Classic Reprint written by Frank Townend Barton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-15 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Breaking and Training Horses The Author has been tempted to write this work because he has often experienced the want of a small yet practical guide dealing with the subject, reliable information being chiefly contained in more expensive manuals. Of course, each Horse-breaker naturally advocates some particular system - which he chooses to call his own - and it is just this egotism that destroys the value of his information, no matter how successfully he may have applied it. In a book of this class it is essential that theory be ready to shake hands with practice, because without this case of demonstration a book on Horsebreaking becomes merely a delusion. The Author leaves himself in the readers' hands to judge whether he has fulfilled his object. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Horses Horsemen and Stable Management Classic Reprint

Download or read book Horses Horsemen and Stable Management Classic Reprint written by Godfrey Bosvile and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Horses, Horsemen and Stable-Management Faulty as it is, this work is the first to establish a link between the prehistoric age of "Horses and Horsemen" and the present time. Other books have been simply branches of equine literature. Old and new ideas have been weighed - steering clear of fads and cranks. Not only have there been innumerable interviews and much correspondence with the living, but communications with the dead, by means of the well-penned manuscripts they left as monuments of their labours. Since the first proofs have been corrected the sad intelligence of the deaths of Mr. Hugh Owen and Mr. Garrett Moore have reached the sporting world. The victories of Chevalier Ginistrelli's "Signorinetta" by "Chaleureux" out of that marvellous mare "Signorina" startled the racing world when the filly won the Derby at 100 to 1, which entitled her to rank as an extraordinarily good mare; especially when she followed this up by winning the Oaks. This took place after my book had gone to press. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The first, issued in monthly parts, was completed in 1875. Ever since, the Author has been engaged in improving and revising it. The subjects have been re-arranged on a plan at once more practical and scientific. All matter of temporary and merely local interest has been cancelled; the object being to make the "Book of the Horse" a work of permanent value. Several chapters have been rewritten the others re-arranged and condensed. In this revision the Author has had the advantage of valuable comnuinications from his readers, not only in this country, but in France, Austria, and Italy, South America, and Australia. He has availed himself of gems of horse lore to be found in the recent works of such travellers as Major Burnaby, Baker Pasha, Mrs. Burton. Paragraphs of interest have been quoted from the letters of the war correspondents of the Times and the Daily News. He has particularly to acknowledge his obligations to the Honourable Francis Lawley for his revision of the chapters on Race-horses and Racing, to Dr. Hurman of the Badminton Club, and Mr. Stewart Freeman of St. Martins Lane, for correcting and adding to the chapter on Four Horse Driving, and the details of Road Coaching. The late Mr. William Cooper, of Stoke Damerel, when judge at the Islington Horse Show, also gave him some valuable hints, and kindly promised to read the proofs of the pages of this edition referring to the subjects of which he was so thoroughly a master. His untimely death took place before the Coaching chapter had been reached. The first chapters contain a history and description of the various breeds of British and Foreign Horses. The succeeding chapters include the following subjects: Horses Of Various Breeds - Information for Purchase of English Horses, i.e., Ponies, Cob.s, Hacks, Harness Steppers - Horsemanship for Children and Adult - Saddles and Bridles - Hints for Amazons The Art of Driving, Including Four-in-hand and Road Coach Expenses - Hunting, in One Hundred Pages, with every Detail, Historical, Biographical, Poetical, Pictorial - Estimate of Expenses of a Carriage and Horses - Stables, Coach-houses, Fodder, and Servant, - Modern Carriages Described - Breeding, Breaking, Training - Shoes and Shoeing -Veterinary Information, By Professor William Pritchard.
