Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This literary, cultural history examines imperial Russian tourism’s entanglement in the vexed issue of cosmopolitanism understood as receptiveness to the foreign and pitted against provinciality and nationalist anxiety about the allure and the influence of Western Europe. The study maps the shift from Enlightenment cosmopolitanism to Byronic cosmopolitanism with special attention to the art pilgrimage abroad. For typically middle-class Russians daunted by the cultural riches of the West, vacationing in the North Caucasus, Georgia, and the Crimea afforded the compensatory opportunity to play colonizer kings and queens in “Asia.” Drawing on Anna Karenina and other literary classics, travel writing, journalism, and guidebooks, the investigation engages with current debates in cosmopolitan studies, including the fuzzy paradigm of “colonial cosmopolitanism.”

Book Rogue Spooks

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dick Morris
  • Publisher : All Points Books
  • Release : 2017-08-15
  • ISBN : 1250167876
  • Pages : 290 pages

Download or read book Rogue Spooks written by Dick Morris and published by All Points Books. This book was released on 2017-08-15 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of an attempted coup d'état by rogue intelligence agents. The goal: to overthrow the presidency of Donald Trump and subvert the will of the electorate. Donald Trump's first 100 days in office were roiled by allegations of treasonous contacts between his campaign team and the Kremlin to rig the election. These outrageous charges first surfaced in the notorious “Trump Dossier,” an unverified document of suspect provenance, full of wild and salacious accusations. This dossier—filled with little more than gossip, rumor, and innuendo—was compiled by Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence operative who teamed up with the FBI and anti-Trump partisans. Hillary Clinton supporters paid for Steele’s work. When no news media would publish the unverified dossier, the ex-spook enlisted the help of a former UK ambassador to Russia, who arranged in turn for a former U.S. assistant secretary of state to get the document to Senator John McCain, in the hope that he would then bring it to FBI Director James Comey’s attention. McCain did just that. Comey himself played a critical role in the dossier ultimately going public, giving a confidential summary to President Obama and congressional leaders. It was immediately leaked by rogue spooks in order to demean, destabilize, and destroy Donald Trump’s nascent presidency. The dossier and this mythical intelligence are the basis for the phony claims about a Russia-Trump collusion to steal the election. No proof was found. No substantiation uncovered. Even Comey told Trump he was not under investigation for the Russian meddling charges. But that didn’t end the leaks or the allegations. Working in concert with liberal news outlets, these rogue spooks have formed a new Intel/Media complex that threatens our democracy. Rogue Spooks will reveal how it works. Readers of Rogue Spooks, from bestselling authors Dick Morris and Eileen McGann, will be shocked to learn the truth about the false accusations against President Trump in the flawed dossier. They’ll be interested to know how leaks to the media fueled the phony scandal, and how intelligence agencies will try to use the newly appointed special prosecutor to oust President Trump.

Book Encounters across Difference

Download or read book Encounters across Difference written by Natalia Bloch and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-05-07 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Encounters across Difference, Natalia Bloch examines tourism encounters in the informal sector in India and their potential to empower subaltern communities. Drawing from ethnographic evidence in Hampi and Dharamshala, Bloch explores the potential of tourism to promote political engagement, volunteering, sponsorship, local entrepreneurship, and women’s empowerment. Contrary to the frequent criticism of tourism to the Global South as a colonial practice, Bloch argues that workers and small entrepreneurs in displaced communities see tourists as allies in their political struggles and, on a more individual level, as an opportunity to build better lives. Book excerpt: The International Strategic Research Organization (USAK) has recently published a report named as“Turkish-Russian Relations in The Post-Cold War Period: Current Dynamics, Future Prospects”. This report can be evaluated from this perspective, as it is the first product of the Track II initiative that has started between International Strategic Research Organization (USAK) and Institute of Oriental Studies of Russian Academy of Sciences (IOS). The first meeting was held in Ankara in 19 February 2013 with participation of Turkish and Russian academicians, bureaucrats and decision makers. However, it is just the first step and should be taken to a next level by better coordination and planning in the future. One of the main outcomes of this meeting is that there are so many areas waiting to be addressed as here are so many commonalities in the historical and social contexts of the two countries. In this regard, the potential of cooperation in regional level has not been developed as much as the level of cooperation in the bilateral level. The report tries to cover these issues in three different chapters. In the first chapter, the report focuses on the political aspect of the relations and tries to answer the questions of “How the political relations developed in the last 20 years?”, “What were the main challenges and turning points that helped to establish a vThe report tries to cover these issues in three different chapters. In the first chapter, the report focuses on the political aspect of the relations and tries to answer the questions of “How the political relations developed in the last 20 years?”, “What were the main challenges and turning points that helped to establish a vibrant dialogue between the two states?” and “What are the areas that should be addressed in the near future?”
