Book Ministry Makeover

Download or read book Ministry Makeover written by Rosario Picardo and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-02-16 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ministry Makeover examines the decline within the church, especially the United Methodist Church (UMC), and some causes for this decline. It calls for a reforming of United Methodist structure and polity by drawing more attention to the value of the bi-vocational model of ministry and a re-visitation of the Wesleyan/United Brethren view and historical perspective. This book establishes a solid theological foundation upon which to build this shift and it goes a step beyond typical ecclesiology (the study of the church) to identify Trinitarian theology as the basis for the practice of the church. In turn, this text reveals bi-vocational ministry and support of new congregations as not only a viable option, but also arguably the model towards which the church is heading. These insights will transform the church and lead to more effective church ministry with respect to resources, structure, and reach in a post-Christendom world context. Picardo uses Embrace Church (Lexington, KY) as a case study, and incorporates his experiences into this text in order to show how these implications have played out in a true bi-vocational, church-plant context.

Book True Woman 101 Divine Design

Download or read book True Woman 101 Divine Design written by Mary A Kassian and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2012-03-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean to be a woman? The current cultural ideal for womanhood encourages women to be strident, sexual, self-centered, independent -- and above all -- powerful and in control. But sadly, this model of womanhood hasn't delivered the happiness and fulfillment it promised. The Bible teaches that it's not up to us to decide what womanhood is all about. God created male and female for a very specific purpose. His design isn't arbitrary or unimportant. It is very intentional and He wants women to discover, embrace, and delight in the beauty of His design. He's looking for True Women! Bible teachers Mary A. Kassian and Nancy Leigh DeMoss share the key fundamentals of biblical womanhood in this eight week study. Each week includes five daily individual lessons leading to a group time of sharing and digging deeper into God's Word. And to enhance this time of learning together, on-line videos are available featuring Mary and Nancy as they encourage women to discover and embrace God's design and mission for their lives. A True Woman Book The goal of the True Woman publishing line is to encourage women to: Discover, embrace, and delight in God's divine design and mission for their lives Reflect the beauty and heart of Jesus Christ to their world Intentionally pass the baton of Truth on to the next generation Pray earnestly for an outpouring of God's Spirit in their families, churches, nation and world

Book After 50 Years of Ministry

Download or read book After 50 Years of Ministry written by Bob Russell and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2016-05-13 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “If I had my entire life to live over, I’d choose to be a preacher again. It’s been extremely rewarding and gratifying. But I could do ministry a lot better if given a second try. As I look back on my forty years at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY, I wish I had a mulligan. This book lists seven things I’d do differently and seven I’d do about the same. They are written in hopes they’ll be a source of encouragement for those growing weary and losing heart. I pray my observations will inspire others to conclude, ‘If he can do it, I can, too.’ In this book I share both the joys and sorrows of my ministry, both the successes and failures. I’m going to be as transparent as possible in hopes that it will encourage ministers to stand firm in the faith and be faithful unto death. If just one minister is motivated to pick up the sword of the Spirit and re-enter the battle, it will be well worth the effort.” — Bob Russell

Book Becoming a Makeover Congregation

Download or read book Becoming a Makeover Congregation written by Beth A. Olson and published by CSS Publishing Company. This book was released on 2019 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "There can be no resurrection without a death." This quote from H. George Anderson, former presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), speaks to the makeover approach to ministry that evolved during the course of more than nine years at a small, struggling congregation in Janesville, Iowa called Messiah Lutheran Church. When Pastor Beth Olson arrived, members told her they weren't sure from week to week if they would see each other in worship or if the church would even be open the following Sunday. How did that same congregation, then, end up building the first new church and education unit in the Northwest Iowa Synod? How did it come to host an ELCA Division for Outreach regional workshop on ministry in action? How did this congregation, which had looked death in the eye, experience a resurrection few might have expected? The answers are in Becoming a Makeover Congregation, a story that shows how things as diverse as glow sticks for Christmas Eve worship, jumper cables as an image for transformational ministry and a makeover scene from the Disney movie The Princess Diaries can bring about resurrection and renewal. Pastor Olson's story will equip you to assemble your own makeover for mission and ministry toolkit so you too can celebrate the power of resurrection in your church. Chapter titles include: Chapter 2: Iowa Skepticism Meets Iowa Determination Chapter 4: Worship, Welcome and a Relaxed Fit Chapter 7: Outside the Comfort Zone: Stewardship and Other Lessons Chapter 11: The Makeover Tool Chest Pastor Beth Olson is the pastor of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, where she has served since 2011. She earned her M.Div. in theology/theological studies from Wartburg Theological Seminary in 1992. She has published articles about including children in worship in the Augsburg Fortress worship resource book Sundays and Seasons 2009, and written prayers for Bread for the Day 2007, 2008 and 2009, a daily devotional book also published by Augsburg Fortress. Her poetry was published in the 64th edition of Lyrical Iowa (2009). She and her family live in Waverly, Iowa.

Book Funding Ministry with Five Loaves and Two Fishes

Download or read book Funding Ministry with Five Loaves and Two Fishes written by Rosario Picardo and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clergy are trained to preach, teach, and lead a congregation in spiritual matters. However, there is very little training for clergy when it comes to the “business” matters of the church-finances, debt reduction, fundraising, and building maintenance. The added and sometimes unexpected load for clergy can become cumbersome and extremely stressful. In addition, the decline of the church and the passing of key funders of churches leave many pastors with dying churches and few resources to do anything about it. Author Rosario Picardo has been in this very position. As a pastor, Picardo launched a church in a movie theater with no people and very little financial support. He also revitalized a dying congregation in a deteriorating physical structure. Through trials and failures, innovation and entrepreneurial thinking, God provided, and Picardo learned new ways for reaching the least and lost, and for growing disciples. In Funding Ministry with Five Loaves and Two Fish, Picardo shares the lessons he’s learned with confidence that other leaders can do the same. He demonstrates how, step by faithful step.
