And if God had not intervened, he would have been there for the rest of his life. In December 2015, Petr Jasek traveled to Khartoum, Sudan, to evaluate how The Voice of the Martyrs—a ministry he had served with since 2002—could help and encourage persecuted Sudanese Christians. Pleased with his meetings with local pastors and other Christians, Petr checked in for his flight home to the Czech Republic. But before he could board the plane, he was summoned for questioning by Sudanese security agents. They wanted to know more about his activities in the country—activities that, if disclosed, could endanger the Christians with whom he had met. Petr soon realized he was facing much more than a routine security screening. The guards took his computer, phone, and camera before quickly discovering his second passport. Later, his interrogators showed him photos of each meeting he had arranged during his four days in Sudan; he had been under surveillance from the moment he arrived. Taken into custody, Petr knew he would not be returning to his family anytime soon. Charged with espionage, waging war against the state, and undermining the constitution, he was locked up with ISIS fighters, convicted after a lengthy trial, and sentenced to life in prison. Several factors, of which the introduction of the coffee-growing and the coffee trade was chronologically one of the first, have changed their life as a megalithic people enmeshed in mythology and ritual drastically. The conversion of nearly half the population to Christianity after 1945 brought a particularly profound change in Sa’dan-Toraja society. Old customs, in particular as regards funerary rites, have a tenacious life, however. In autochthonous Toraja culture rituals are the main focus of attention. They are divided into ceremonies of the East and those of the West. The former, associated with sunrise and life, comprise feasts of the living; yellow and white are the colours belonging to these joyous festivals. The West is associated with sunset, death and darkness; the main colour connected with it is black. So death rituals are referred to a “night ceremonies”. In time these death feasts grew more and more complicated, finally overshadowing the festivals of the East.

His second favorite was baseball in which RJ was presented with sports medals by his school and sports director, Mr. Leroy Harvey. RJ is married to Charlotte Jean Carley Buras. RJ and Jean have been blessed with five children: John, Jason, Heather, Joby, and Sarah Buras. Their children live on the Gulf Coast near them. RJ taught all his children to play musical instruments skillfully. RJ’s wife Jean plays guitar and is a songwriter. RJ and Jean have been married for 52 years. RJ’s adventures through life have led him from Buras High school to River Boat Captain, pushing barges up and down the Mississippi River, going east and west on the Intercoastal Canal from Port St. Joe, Florida to New Orleans, Louisiana and on to Houston, Corpus Christi, and Brownsville. Texas. RJ really enjoyed the captain position on many vessels, including inshore, offshore, and on the Gulf of Mexico. By grace, RJ says he had the opportunity to become a Christian, then called to the Ministry. RJ spent many hours, days, and years studying the King James Version of the Bible and evangelizing throughout the United States. That is what enthused him to write this book.
