Download or read book Between Sepharad and Jerusalem written by Alisa Meyuḥas Ginio and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sephardim are the descendants of the Jews expelled from the lands of the Iberian Peninsula in the years 1492-1498, who settled down in the Mediterranean basin. The identifying sign of the Sephardim has been, until the middle of the twentieth century, the language known as Jewish-Spanish. The history, identity and memory of the Sephardim in their Mediterranean dispersal are analysed by the author with a special reference to the Sephardi community of Jerusalem and to the cultural and social changes that characterized the late nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century. However, because of the crucial changes related to modernization and the political circumstances that came into being at the turn of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century, the Sephardim lost their unique identity.

Download or read book Is the Good Book Bad written by Rabbi Michoel Stern and published by Mosaica Press. This book was released on 2022-02-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Slavery Animal sacrifices Expulsion of the seven nations With in-depth treatment of numerous passages from the Scripture, these and other topics from the Jewish Scripture troublesome to many 21st-century readers are analyzed in Is the Good Book Bad? Stern also makes the case that a morality based on belief in God is more compelling than one based on scientific materialism. While the content and argumentation are unique and nuanced, he takes on modern-day criticism without making modern-day compromises on the authenticity of Scripture and how it was interpreted by the sages of the Talmud and the scholars who followed in their footsteps.

Download or read book Jacob Esau written by Malachi Haim Hacohen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2019-01-10 with total page 757 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jacob and Esau is a profound new account of two millennia of Jewish European history that, for the first time, integrates the cosmopolitan narrative of the Jewish diaspora with that of traditional Jews and Jewish culture. Malachi Haim Hacohen uses the biblical story of the rival twins, Jacob and Esau, and its subsequent retelling by Christians and Jews throughout the ages as a lens through which to illuminate changing Jewish-Christian relations and the opening and closing of opportunities for Jewish life in Europe. Jacob and Esau tells a new history of a people accustomed for over two-and-a-half millennia to forming relationships, real and imagined, with successive empires but eagerly adapting, in modernity, to the nation-state, and experimenting with both assimilation and Jewish nationalism. In rewriting this history via Jacob and Esau, the book charts two divergent but intersecting Jewish histories that together represent the plurality of Jewish European cultures.

Book excerpt: Since ancient times we have been taught that we are not alone. We are not alone in our universe, nor are we alone here on our own planet. Aliens, Angels, & Demons takes us on a journey from the secret teachings about Inner Earth and Pre-Adamic civilized humanity to the many extraterrestrial races in outer space, their relationship to us (and to G-d), and our collective human future in dawning "messianic" times.Aliens, Angels & Demons looks at the teachings of the ancients alongside modern understandings, and insights. What we explore and discover is that the legends of old and the legends of today might very well be one and the same. More so, what is considered by many to be merely legend may indeed be something far greater; something very real and very relevant to us all.If you want to know what is out there, you might very well find your answers in here.
