Download or read book Seeking Our Humanity Part Ii written by Claudia Helt and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2020-06-08 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” Anthropologist Margaret Mead’s famous quote may come to mind as you read this second volume in the Seeking Our Humanity series. In the first book, a small group of friends learned that the environmental crisis plaguing the Earth was not only grounded in our material pollution of land, seas and skies. A mysterious traveler from another plane of existence taught them that the Life Being Earth feels the anger, hatred, violence, and cruelty that people bear toward one another; they poison her life’s very essence. Gently and firmly, he emphasized the urgency of the crisis and the gravity of the stakes: Earth will soon reach a tipping point that will make her uninhabitable for humankind. The mysterious guest invited them to join with beings throughout the universe to rescue the Earth, and taught them the simple steps that they could take daily to help her heal from this invisible, deadly toxicity. Called and empowered to be part of the solution, they joined forces to do so. In this installment, the commitment of these twelve dear friends to the mission deepens and expands. As they hone their skills, they confront the deep-seated doubts and fears that arise from so daunting a challenge. Readers find themselves embraced in the tender compassion that permeates their relationships, the deep listening and encouragement that they share with one another. Those who seek to heal the Earth, find healing themselves.

Download or read book Why Human Rights Still Matter in Contemporary Global Affairs written by Mahmood Monshipouri and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-04-29 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book elucidates why human rights still matter in contemporary global affairs, and what can lead to better protection of international human rights in a post-liberal order. It blends theoretical, empirical, and normative perspectives, while providing much-needed analysis in light of the perils of populism, authoritarianism, and toxic nationalism, as well as highlighting the hopes with which people around the world view human rights in the new millennium. Systematically combining theoretical perspectives from across the disciplines with numerous case studies, it demonstrates not only the complexities of the domestic conditions involved, but also the ways in which human dignity can be preserved and promoted during periods of rapid change and uncertainty. Finally, the book addresses the question of how to protect human rights in such a world in which the active promotion of democratic values and enforcement of human rights may not be necessarily aligned with evolving economic and geopolitical interests of many great and diverse powers on the global scene. As such, it is a timely intervention for human rights as a concept as it has been attacked and eroded by the instability in our world today. This book will be of key interest to scholars and students of human rights in politics, law, philosophy, sociology, and history and to humanitarian bodies, practitioners, and policy makers.
Download or read book Mama You Still Matter written by Laura Heflin and published by Gatekeeper Press. This book was released on 2021-04-27 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Motherhood: the hardest, most rewarding job on the planet that grows us, teaches us, stretches us and fills our heart with more love than we could ever imagine. But what happens when we burn out? What happens when we lose our steam and feel as we have lost the woman we once were? What do we do when we feel as if we have nothing left to give? The answer is simple. We must stop putting ourselves last. We must remember that in order to love others and be the best mama we can possibly be, we must first nurture our mind, body and soul and let go of the guilt that surrounds us. We must confidently look in the mirror daily and remind ourselves "Mama, YOU Still Matter!"

Download or read book Why the Reformation Still Matters written by Michael Reeves and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2016-04-21 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 31 October 1517, Martin Luther posted his ninety-five theses on the castle church door in Wittenberg. More than any other event, this has the best claim to be the starting gun that set the Reformation in motion. Five hundred years later, the Reformation still has important things to say. In this clear, incisive and accessible survey, Michael Reeves and Tim Chester show how the Reformation helps us answer questions like: How do we know what’s true? Can we truly know God? How does God speak? What’s wrong with us? How can we be saved? Who am I? That many people today find the Reformation strange and remote exposes our preoccupation with this material world and this momentary life. If there is a world beyond this world, and a life beyond this life, then it doesn’t seem to matter very much to us. At its heart, the Reformation was a dispute about how we know God and how we can be right with him. At stake was our eternal future - and it still is.

Book excerpt: Many people in the twenty-first century have trouble believing the Bible because they believe the timeline produced by radiometric dating techniques. They surmise, "How could these radiometric proofs, which are accepted by the scientific community, be wrong? Could the many laboratories, which have calculated the age of dinosaur bones to be 65 million years old, be wrong?" Others maintain their faith in the Bible but are conflicted over the seemingly irrefutable arguments presented by the community of radiometric date setters. The modern mind is assailed by the teaching of the Bible and the opposing teaching of science. In particular, the claims of the various radiometric dating techniques, including carbon dating, seem to prove the Bible wrong. Because these radiometric dating claims are in such opposition to the Bible, a choice must be made. The purpose of this book is to clarify that choice and expose the weakness in the radiometric dating argument.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is rooted in two convictions: first, sexuality is far more comprehensive and more fundamental to our existence than simply genital sex, and, second, sexuality is intended by God to be neither incidental nor detrimintal to our spirituality but a fully integrated and basic dimension of that spirituality. The authors address what our sexual experience reveals about God, the ways we understand the gospel, and the ways we read scripture and tradition and attempt to live faithfully.
