Book Ohio s Forests and Wood Using Industries Classic Reprint

Download or read book Ohio s Forests and Wood Using Industries Classic Reprint written by Oliver Keith Hutchison and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-20 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ohio's Forests and Wood-Using Industries The estimates of forest area, timber volume, and growth reported here are higher than previous estimates indicated. Moreover, the statistics that follow show that Ohio timber stands are now. Growing faster than they are being cut. The differences are partly due to inclusion of more lightly forested areas in the recent survey. Standards of merchantability have changed to include material that would not have been harvested 10 or 15 years ago. The differences also reflect the tree planting and the actual increase in timber volume during the period. Because of the changing standards this increase cannot be accurately measured. Book Ohio s Timber Harvest Revealed in Stumps Classic Reprint

Download or read book Ohio s Timber Harvest Revealed in Stumps Classic Reprint written by Kenneth L. Quigley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-18 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ohio's Timber Harvest Revealed in Stumps Timber is an important resource in Ohio, and cutting records are an essential part of a forest resource appraisal. However, finding out just how much timber is cut in the State during any one year is a big job. Occasionally in the past, wood-using industries have been surveyed to determine the volume cut by species and product, but the variety of industries, the large number of small Operations (including individual farmers) and lack of systematic records at small mills, makes an industry production survey difficult and costly. Production varies from year to year, so an industry survey for a particular year may not be representative. Moreover, an industry survey does not give direct information on size of timber cut, acreage cutover, source of the timber, or kind of stand from which timber came. These difficulties have prompted consideration of other ways to obtain cutting information. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Forest Resources of Missouri: Central States Forest Experiment Station, Columbus, Ohio The Forest Survey is conducted in the various forest regions by the forest experiment stations of the Forest Ser vice. In Missouri, the project is directed by the Central States Forest Experiment Station with headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. For Survey purposes, the State has been divided into five principal regions based on character of forest, topography, and other factors that influence tree growth. Survey releases have been published for each of the regions (forest Survey Releases 1 to 5 inclusive) presenting the more significant statistics on forest area and timber vol ume. This release summarizes these data for the State as a whole. In some instances figures for individual forest types and Species may not exactly equal the totals obtained by adding the figures in the five regional releases. This is due to the fact that minor types and Species were grouped differently in several of the regional releases and the State summary. Later an analytical report fur the State will be published, which will interpret forest area, timber volume, granth, and drain statistics in the light of existing and anticipated economic conditions. This interpretation will focus attention on the principal forest problems and will suggest possible solutions. Book Central States Timber Resources Classic Reprint

Download or read book Central States Timber Resources Classic Reprint written by Oliver Keith Hutchison and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-11 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Central States Timber Resources A final revised report is scheduled for publication and release to the public in 1957. The trr combines information derived from special field studies with that obtained from assembling and updating the best data already available. Area and volume statistics were adjusted to January 1, 1953; timber cut and utilization figures are for the calendar year 1952. The task was made possible through excellent cooperation between federal and state agencies and private industries. This report is for managers of forest land, forest industry personnel, and all others interested in the forests of the Central States. The statistics presented here are taken from the tre data except for those that pertain to Iowa. Iowa figures are based on a more intensive survey completed after data were assembled for the trr. Regular forest surveys of the other five Central States were completed before national statistics were assembled. In some cases, tables included in this report are presented in more detail than will be possible in the thb publication. The area and volume figures shown by ownerships may differ slightly from figures published by the agencies concerned. This is because of differences in definitions, specifications, log rules, and cruising standards. Unless indicated otherwise, the board-foot volumes are expressed in net volume log scale International inch rule; cubic foot volumes show net log volume excluding bark. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Wood-Using Industries of Ohio With her many rail and water transportation facilities, and wub her vast resources of soil, forests, coal, oil, gas, iron, stone and clay, Ohio stands high as a manufacturing State. In 1910 the value added to the raw material by the varied manufactures of the State amounted to considerably more than For the same period the Bureau of the Census report shows that the sale of farm products reached a value of and that the minerals produced, exclusive of clay products, an estimated value of $159, 000, 000. Manufacturing, therefore, is preeminently Ohio's leading industry. The present report deals with a single class of factories, those manufacturing commodities from wood. They form one of the most important divisions of Ohio's enterprises, and nearly every State in the Union as well as many foreign countries send some portion of their forest material to Ohio for utilization in manu facture. The commodities turned out by these wood-using factories, together with the value of the rough forest products like lumber, shingles, cross-ties, etc., in 1909, amounted to nearly Compared with the value of farm products and the mineral resources, the part the forests and their related industries are taking in the commercial development of Ohio is thus clearly indicated.
