Book The Physician s Guide to Investing

Download or read book The Physician s Guide to Investing written by Robert M. Doroghazi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-11-03 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I met Bob Doroghazi when he dropped the first draft of his manuscript of The Physician’s Guide to Investing: A Practical Approach to Building Wealth at my office. I will have to admit I was a bit skeptical: a physician writing a book on investments? During that first meeting with Bob, it became evident that he had been a successful physician and a successful investor, so I agreed to take a look at the book. I was in for a pleasant surprise. Bob’s manuscript was easy to read and had specific advice useful to physicians, interspersed with lots of practical tidbits for any investor. Having written three college-level finance and investment texts, I was excited to be in on a project aimed at offering practical investment advice to a more general, yet specialized, audience. I had high expectations for the book and am pleased to say that I believe Bob has delivered a book that every physician interested in building wealth and protecting assets should read. Bob is a straight shooter; he tells it like he sees it in his book. Some doctors might be indignant on reading his statements, such as “Physicians sometimes have no idea of their limitations. This type of arrogance and ego can result in investing disaster.” However, if you do have these limitations (and most professionals, even college professors, do), then reading Bob’s book will help you recognize situations in which they can lead to poor investment decisions.

Download or read book Forever Investing written by Michael T. Nowacki and published by . This book was released on 2016-11-08 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last fifty years, the average holding period of a stock in the United States has plummeted. In the 1960s, it was eight years; now it's just several days. And yet historically many of America's most successful investors have been forever investors-buying ownership in companies with the goal of keeping those assets indefinitely, if not forever. In this insightful, easy-to-read guide, author Michael T. Nowacki challenges current thinking about stock holding and investing. He proposes that today's investors take their cues from business titans of the past and present. He advises adopting a more long-term approach to choosing, making, and holding stock market purchases. In short, rather than seeing yourself as a stock owner, he recommends you see yourself as a business owner. In Forever Investing, Nowacki examines the strategies of some of the greatest investors in history, including John D. Rockefeller Sr., Andrew Carnegie, Shelby Cullom Davis, the Koch brothers, and Warren Buffett. Then, drawing on these luminaries' practices, he explains how you can get into a forever investing mind-set. Once you accomplish that, you will make better, more stable, and more productive investment decisions.

Download or read book The Ages of the Investor written by William J. Bernstein and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2012-08-28 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Ages of the Investor: A Critical Look at Life-cycle Investing" is intended to be the first installment in the "Investing for Adults" series. Just as grown-ups do not believe in the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, or Santa Claus, "Investing adults" know that there is no such creature as the Stock-picking Fairy or the Market-timing Fairy. Further, there is no Risk Fairy who will write you cheap options that will protect your stock holdings against loss. Investing adults are familiar with Gene Fama, Zvi Bodie, Jack Bogle, and Burton Malkiel, and understand that a mean variance optimizer does not blend vegetables. In other words, this series is not for beginners. Future topics will, with luck, include the limits of market efficiency and diversification in increasingly non-segmented global markets.

Book Templeton s Way with Money

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The enduring legacy of a legendary investor Called the "greatest stock picker of the century" by Money magazine, legendary fund manager Sir John Templeton is remembered as one of the world's foremost investors, known for his pioneering insights and phenomenal investment performance over a professional career which spanned more than half a century. Templeton’s Way with Money provides a unique, professional 21st century appraisal of what made this formidable investor the success he was—and why his methods remain as valid today as they were during his long and successful lifetime. Written by two investment experts, one of whom worked closely with Sir John for ten years, and drawing on previously unpublished documents, the book explains in detail how John Templeton's simple but effective investment philosophy of riding out the ups and downs of the market cycle continues to be as relevant as ever for professional and private investors alike. Key features include: A fresh and detailed reappraisal, drawing on a number of previously unpublished documents, of the philosophy which Templeton applied to the two phase of his investment career—first as an investment counsel, and latterly as the most successful global fund manager of his generation A detailed and original study of the performance of the Templeton Growth Fund, demonstrating in detail how Templeton achieved the Holy Grail of investment—above average returns with below average risk First hand accounts from former colleagues of their experience in working with Templeton—including those of author Alasdair Nairn's ten-year career working with and for the investment management organization that was Templeton's life work Proprietary and original research which explains why Templeton's seemingly simple investment philosophy is sure to produce exceptional returns if implemented effectively Current market conditions make Templeton's contrarian investment method of profiting from pessimism particularly relevant today, and this book a must-read for anyone working with investments.
