Download or read book The Tea Party written by Elizabeth Price Foley and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-02-06 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Tea Party: Three Principles, constitutional law professor Elizabeth Price Foley takes on the mainstream media's characterization of the American Tea Party movement, asserting that it has been distorted in a way that prevents meaningful political dialogue and may even be dangerous for America's future. Foley sees the Tea Party as a movement of principles over politics. She identifies three 'core principles' of American constitutional law that bind the decentralized, wide-ranging movement: limited government, unapologetic US sovereignty and constitutional originalism. These three principles, Foley explains, both define the Tea Party movement and predict its effect on the American political landscape. Foley explains the three principles' significance to the American founding and constitutional structure. She then connects the principles to current issues such as health care reform, illegal immigration, the war on terror, and internationalism.

Book The Political Thought of Sun Yat sen

Download or read book The Political Thought of Sun Yat sen written by A. Wells and published by Springer. This book was released on 2001-10-29 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The significance of Sun Yat-sen's political thought has rarely been appreciated though he is hailed as the Father of Modern China. This is the first extended treatment of the subject, which will be invaluable to sinologists and historians of political thought. Dr Wells first traces the development of Sun's revolutionary ideas from the nineteenth to the twentieth century. She then considers the impact of Sun's political thought on Chinese revolutionary leaders and on Third World countries, arguing that it has been considerable. This subject has never before been so widely explored.

Book The Three Principles of the People

Download or read book The Three Principles of the People written by Yat-sen Sun and published by . This book was released on 2011-11 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This translation is made from the tenth edition of the Chinese book issued by the New Age Publishing Company with some of the errors of earlier editions corrected. In view of the prominent and influential position which The Three Principles of the People holds in the Chinese Nationalist movement and because of the difficulty involved in making passages for an abridged edition, Mr. Price has rendered a complete translation. The translation is faithful to the original and yet clear to the English reader. It will be of help to those who have read the book in Chinese and also to those who wish to know the English equivalents for Dr. Sun's ideas, terms and phrases. Three features not in the original Chinese text have been added in the translation: The number of paragraphs has been increased. A few brief notes have been added to explain generally unfamiliar names and references. A brief summary has been placed at the beginning of each chapter. This translation was originally issued under the auspices of the China Committee, Institute of Pacific Relations, as a volume of the "International Understanding Series" with the hope that it will promote a better understanding abroad of the great forces that are now driving China forward.

Book The Principles of Representative Government

Download or read book The Principles of Representative Government written by Bernard Manin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-02-28 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thesis of this original and provocative book is that representative government should be understood as a combination of democratic and undemocratic, aristocratic elements. Professor Manin challenges the conventional view that representative democracy is no more than an indirect form of government by the people, in which citizens elect representatives only because they cannot assemble and govern in person. The argument is developed by examining the historical moments when the present institutional arrangements were chosen from among the then available alternatives. Professor Manin reminds us that while today representative institutions and democracy appear as virtually indistinguishable, when representative government was first established in Europe and America, it was designed in opposition to democracy proper. Drawing on the procedures used in earlier republican systems, from classical Athens to Renaissance Florence, in order to highlight the alternatives that were forsaken, Manin brings to the fore the generally overlooked results of representative mechanisms. These include the elitist aspect of elections and the non-binding character of campaign promises.

Book Winning with People

Download or read book Winning with People written by John C. Maxwell and published by HarperCollins Leadership. This book was released on 2007-04-01 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most important characteristic that is needed to be successful in any leadership position – whether it’s in business, church, or your community - is the ability to work with people. Relationships are at the heart of every positive human experience. John C.Maxwell, a master communicator and relational expert, makes learning about relationships accessible to everyone in Winning With People. Within this book, Maxwell has translated decades of experience into 25 People Principles that anyone can learn. In Winning With People, Maxwell divides these principles into sections based off different questions we must ask ourselves such as: Readiness: Are we prepared for relationships? Connection: Are we willing to focus on others? Trust: Can we build mutual trust? Investment: Are we willing to invest in others? Synergy: Can we create a win-win relationship? Each section contains guiding People Principles. Some are intuitive, such as The Lens Principle: Who We Are Determines How We See Others. Others may go against your instincts, such as The Confrontation Principle: Caring for People Should Precede Confronting People. The most sophisticated leaders and salespeople will pick up on skills that will make them even better, and relational novices will learn skills that can transform them into relational dynamos.
