That evening, I was next door, coloring with my neighbor when mental telepathy called me to leave our neighbors house and go home. A historic event was about to occur. All noises disappeared and in an instant, a UFO dropped out of the sky and I was abducted. I was gone for seven minutes before being put back down in a UFO beam at the edge of our Warner Homestead. Startlingly, just two weeks later, the UFO came back and I was abducted a second time. My story was featured in the 2020 Netflix Series Unsolved Mysteries "Berkshires UFO." My autobiography covers the events both before and after the abductions, and how this affected me. I write my autobiography to help others who may have similar experiences and to share the message that was left with me for all of humanity.

I hope to awake many of them about the great past and history that we as a people come from. This is the fulfillment of the prophecy that is mentioned in the Scripture. What was hidden in the dark shall surely come to light, and what was done in secret shall be made known on the house top.

Widely distributed and read, buccaneering and privateering narratives contributed significantly to England's imaginative, literary rendering of the Americas in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, and they provided a venue for public dialogue about sea rovers and their position within empire. This book takes as its subject the literary and rhetorical construction of voyagers and their histories, and by extension, the representation of English imperialism in popular sea-voyage narratives of the period.

Settlers from places like Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and as far away as England and Ireland began arriving in North Texas. Texas was not yet a part of the United States when Sam Houston, as president of the Republic of Texas, entered into an agreement with the Peters Colony Company to attract settlers to the area with the promise of free land. Carrollton likely received its name from one of these groups that emigrated from Carrollton, Illinois. The city grew as it became a railroad hub and later transitioned from a rural community to a prosperous Dallas suburb. In 1976, the city participated in many national bicentennial celebrations, and volunteers restored and opened a museum to honor its rural beginnings and courageous settlers.

Book excerpt: Montserrat, although part of England's empire, was settled largely by the Irish and provides an opportunity to view the interaction of Irish emigrants with English imperialism in a situation where the Irish were not a small minority among white settlers. Within this context Akenson explores whether Irish imperialism on Montserrat differed from English imperialism in other colonies. Akenson reveals that the Irish proved to be as effective and as unfeeling colonists as the English and the Scottish, despite the long history of oppression in Ireland. He debunks the myth of the "nice" slave holder and the view that indentured labour prevailed in the West Indies in the seventeenth century. He also shows that the long-held habit of ignoring ethnic strife within the white ruling classes in the West Indies is misconceived. If the Irish Ran the World provides interesting insights into whether ethnicity was central to the making of the colonial world and the usefulness of studies of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century English imperialism in the Americas. It will be the basis of the Joanne Goodman Lectures at the University of Western Ontario in 1997.
