Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latest entry in the charming Highland Bookshop mystery series finds the women of Yon Bonnie Books embroiled in the death of a local doctor, which sets off a chain of other curious—and deadly—events. Out for a bicycle ride in the hills beyond Inversgail, Janet Marsh discovers the body of Dr. Malcolm Murray. The elderly Murray and his own bicycle went off the road and down a steep slope—he’s sprawled in the burn at the bottom, his damaged bike in a patch of thistles on the bank. Janet calls the Police Scotland emergency number. Tire tracks at the side of the narrow road suggest a vehicle might have been involved. But if it was an accident, the driver hasn’t come forward. And if it wasn’t an accident. . . . But who would want the well-loved, retired doctor dead? A few days after the death, a box of vintage first editions is left on the doorstep of Yon Bonnie Books with a note: “Please look after these books. Thank you.” Janet and her crew at the shop are at first delighted, and then mystified—what exactly does “look after” mean? Are they free to sell them? And what are the odd notes penciled in the margins? With a little digging, the women decide the books might belong to Malcolm Murray or his reclusive brother, Gerald. When Janet and Christine call at Malcolm’s house, they find his confused, angry sister and evidence of a burglary. When they go to Gerald’s modest croft house, they find the door ajar and Gerald dead inside, stabbed with a regimental dagger. While the police try to determine if the Murray brothers’ deaths are connected and who’s responsible, Janet and the bookshop owners try to find out how and why the box of books ended up on their doorstep. The police are interested in those questions, too, and they’re more than a little suspicious. Are the Yon Bonnie women as good with burglar tools as they are with books—and at finding bodies?

Book Four Modern Mystery Dramas

Download or read book Four Modern Mystery Dramas written by Rudolf Steiner and published by Rudolf Steiner Press. This book was released on 2023-06-09 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Doorway of Initiation – The Trial of the Soul – The Guardian of the Threshold – The Souls Awaken Rudolf Steiner's four modern mystery dramas are powerful portrayals of the complex laws of reincarnation and karma, transporting us to landscapes of soul and spirit where supra-sensory beings are visible, active and influential. Through perception of these hidden worlds, we are given tools to comprehend the background to the struggles we face in everyday life – both in human relationships and in our attempts to practise spiritual development. Written between the years 1910 and 1913, during periods of intense inner and outer work, the dramas are powerful testimonies to Steiner's artistic creativity. By manifesting soul and spirit forms on stage, they foreshadow a dramatic art of the future. Rudolf Steiner planned for all four mystery dramas to be performed in August 1923, but this was no longer possible because of the burning of the first Goetheanum on New Year's Eve, 1922. They were eventually performed together for the first time in 1930 and since then have been staged regularly, in many languages, throughout the world. This fresh rendering into English by Richard Ramsbotham also features an extensive introduction by him. >GA 14

Book Working Together on Rudolf Steiner s Mystery Dramas

Download or read book Working Together on Rudolf Steiner s Mystery Dramas written by Hans Pusch and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 1980-06-15 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Be a person of initiative and beware, lest through hindrances of your own body or hindrances that otherwise come in your way, you do not find the center of your being, within which lies the source of your initiative. Observe that, in your life, all joy and sorrow, all happiness and pain, will depend on finding or not finding your own individual initiative. This should appear, as if written in golden letters, constantly before the soul of anthroposophists. Initiative lies in their karma, and much of what meets them in this life will depend on the extent to which they can become willingly, actively conscious of it." --Rudolf Steiner, Aug. 4, 1924 Torin Finser takes on some of our contemporary challenges and proposes new solutions. Rather than simply "kicking the can down the road," as often happens with issues such as sovereign debts, Middle East conflicts, and environmental issues, Finser calls for individual initiative. Drawing on a variety of rich cultural and spiritual traditions, he makes the case for social change that begins within. To do so, one must first access resources that support initiative and innovation. Key questions discussed in this book include: How is it possible to live a spiritual life in our materialistic age? Can an individual person still make a difference? How can we use a whole-systems approach to innovation? How can planetary wisdom help us find appropriate leadership styles? What are the inner conditions needed to work with the transcendent Self? In the swirl of multi-tasking, how can we find moments of solitude and reflection? We need new, a ethical individualism that is fully transformative. As quoted from the Peace Pilgrim in chapter 2: This is the way of peace--overcome evil with good, and falsehood with truth, and hatred with love. Today's world needs people of initiative--those willing to become the change that is so desperately needed. This book offers a wakeup call for inspired leadership.

Book World History and the Mysteries

Download or read book World History and the Mysteries written by Rudolf Steiner and published by Rudolf Steiner Press. This book was released on 2021-05-17 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this landmark series of lectures, Rudolf Steiner challenges the notion that human consciousness has in essence remained the same throughout history. On the contrary, we can only see the past in its true light when we study the differences in human souls during the various historical eras. Consciousness, he says, evolves constantly and we can only comprehend the present by understanding its origin in the past. Delivered in the evenings during the course of the ‘mystery act’ of the Christmas Foundation Meeting – when Rudolf Steiner not only re-founded the Anthroposophical Society but for the first time took a formal role within it – these lectures study world history in parallel with the ancient mysteries of initiation, showing how they are intimately linked. Steiner describes consciousness in the ancient East and follows the initiation principle from Babylonia to Greece, up to its influences in present-day spiritual life. He also discusses Gilgamesh and Eabani, the mysteries of Ephesus and Hibernia, and the occult relationship between the destruction by fire of the Temple of Artemis and the burning of the first Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland. Published for the first time with colour plates of Steiner’s blackboard drawings, the freshly-revised text is complemented with an introduction, notes and appendices by Professor Frederick Amrine and an index.

Book The Third Mystery Drama

Download or read book The Third Mystery Drama written by Rudolf Steiner and published by . This book was released on 2005-08-07 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The four Mystery Dramas were created, produced and printed one each year, one after the other, from 1910-1913. They took place in different theatres in Munich but always in the month of August. The writing of the dramas, the creating of the scenery, the making of the costumes, the learning of roles, the general directing, the organization of the printing and all the other inummerable things connected with such a major production happened within a matter of weeks before the main performance. There was a literal whirlwind of activity, and it is reported that often the scenes were written during the night before a scheduled rehearsal, and that at five or six in the morning a boy would come from the press to pick up the manuscript for the printing of the scene for that day's rehearsal. All this activity centered around Rudolf Steiner who gave directions or advice on every aspect of the production down to the smallest details. He not only wrote the dramas themselves, but also indicated how such soul and spiritual pictures could be presented and played on stage. A fifth drama was also planned, which was to include scenes from Ancient Greece and its mystery centers, but the outbreak of the First World War in August 1914 meant that it had to be postponed. Rudolf Steiner's early death in 1925 resulted in it never coming to production, nor ever being written down. The Third Mystery Drama The Third Mystery Drama brings the First and Second to a conclusion in certain respects, and the original viewers saw them as a trilogy. The first steps into an actual seeing of one's Karma were presented in the Second Drama, and now the integration of what was seen has to be brought about. For indeed, seeing into the spiritual world is not like seeing a landscape – where it is clearly before one's eyes; rather it is more like seeing into a microscope or space telescope, totally new things appear which one does not know how to categorize or in the case of the spiritual world, to find a relation to. Not only outer visible aspects have to be integrated though, also new feelings, but especially new moral attitudes have to be integrated. This is often difficult. We, as personalities, are imbedded in the thoughts and feelings and experiences we have had; if we were suddenly confronted with some of these that are ours but that we have never had in this life, it is not surprising that we would feel strange and confused. Essentially, to be 'full' human beings, we will eventually have to integrate all thoughts, feelings and experiences possible for us as human beings. This will be an actual growing of the our soul and will allow us to integrate ourselves into the spiritual world, for the spiritual world is a 'full' world. Through conscientuous hard work, Johannes has created a new book about spiritual knowledge, but just because of this, his own spiritual knowledge has grown and he can now encouter another side of himself he had not recognized previously. This knowledge now warns him what he is about to do is incorrect, so he turns away from the success he might have had giving out the book. Just this lets him then see what he really lacks in terms of spiritual insight and where this does actually lie for him. So he seeks Theodora's light. That seeking in turn, with Maria's help, brings him to the discovery of his own light. Strader experiences the powerful illuminating nature of Theodora's light directly, and it changes his whole life. But then through the loss of of that light, after something new has been established within him, it causes him to seek help Johannes, following Benedictus's guidance. This in turn brings him into a direct experience of the strongest side of his own inner nature and what he has actually developed in his previous lives and this one. Such an insight gives him at the end, his own inner self-confidence in what he has to contribute to the others, to mankind. For Capsesius, the shock of his moral failure and guilt from a past life was more than he could integrate into his present life. But the sojourn in the spiritual world also was a growing one for him, and he experienced much more there which had a bearing on his own Karma. Thus, by being able to come to Stader's help, he helps Theodora where one part of his Karmic debt lies. Then by accepting the help of Maria and becoming aware of the real nature of certain parts of himself, he actually allows her to make spiritual progress which she can use to help Johannes, where another part of his Karmic debt lies. The Karmic knot that binds these individuals together can be brought to a higher stage of development, a stage where these individuals are prepare to help each other to help themselves and humanity, and where a social work may be undertaken which will also be in harmony with the spiritual forces in the world.

Book Autobiography

Download or read book Autobiography written by Rudolf Steiner and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 2006-05 with total page 623 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 4 lectures, Dornach, June 28 - July 18, 1923 (CW 350) "Truth and striving for truth must taste good to you; and lies, once you are conscious of them, must taste bitter and poisonous. You must not only know that human judgments have color, but also that printer's ink nowadays is mostly deadly nightshade juice. You must be able to experience this in all honesty and rectitude, and once you can do so, you will be in a state of spiritual transformation" (Rudolf Steiner). What is the relationship between coming to see the secrets of the universe and one's own view of the world? How far must one go before finding the higher worlds on the path of natural science? Do cosmic forces influence all of humanity? What connection do plants have with the human being and the human body? In answering these questions, Steiner covers a wide range of topics, from the development of independent thinking and the ability to think backward to the uses of what seems boring and the reversal of thinking between the physical and spiritual worlds, and from the "physiology" of dreams to living into nature and the spiritual dimension of various foods we eat. As always in his lectures to the workers, Steiner's style is clear, direct, and accessible. This volume is a translation from German of four lectures from Rhythmen im Kosmos und im Menschenwesen: Wie kommt man zum Schauen der geistigen Welt? (GA 350).
