Book excerpt: Excerpt from Heat Engines: Steam, Gas, Steam Turbines and Their Auxiliaries In preparing this book, it has been the intention of the authors to present an elementary treatise upon the subject of Heat Engines, considering only those engines which are most com mouly used in practice. It is written primarily as a text-book, the subject-matter having been used in the classes at the University of Michigan for a number of years. Book The Theory of Heat Engines Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Theory of Heat Engines Classic Reprint written by William Inchley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-12 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Theory of Heat Engines This book has been written mainly for engineering students, and covers the ground required for University and similar examinations in the theory Of heat engines. It will also be found suitable for students reading for the examinations of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution Of Mechanical Engineers, the City and Guilds of London Institute, and the Board of Education, and should prove useful to the engineer who desires a thorough knowledge of the theory of the subject. The Author feels that no apology is necessary for adding yet another book on this subject because, although many excellent books exist which deal solely with one or two special branches Of the subject, there are very few which deal with the subject as a whole. An attempt has here been made to give in a complete and concise form the thermodynamical and mechanical principles of the subject; to that end all purely descriptive matter has been designedly omitted. Book Thermodynamics Heat Motors and Refrigerating Machines Classic Reprint

Download or read book Thermodynamics Heat Motors and Refrigerating Machines Classic Reprint written by De Volson Wood and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-27 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Thermodynamics, Heat Motors, and Refrigerating Machines The following work has been prepared to meet a want experienced by myself in my course of instruction in Thermodynamics. After reading several works upon the subject, including those of the founders of the science - Rankine, Clausius, Thomson - I was most favorably impressed with the spirit of Rankine's mode of discussing the subject. It is in keeping with the modern method of treating Analytical Mechanics, in which the analysis is founded upon ideal conditions established by definitions, and the resulting formulas modified to represent the infinite variety of conditions in nature. But Rankine's giant-like processes are not adapted to the wants of the average student. Article 241 of his Steam Engine and other Prime Movers reaches the height of sublimity in regard to terseness, comprehensiveness, and obscurity. Without a proper preliminary, he crowds into a few words a principle which has cost other writers protracted labor and heroic efforts to establish. My aim has not been to bring down the subject to the comprehension of the reader, but to lead him up, by a more easy and uniformly graded path, to the same height, and at the same time familiarize him with the way by a free use of illustrations, exercises, historic references, and numerical examples. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Thermodynamics In the second place, wherever Mble, the student is presented at the beginning of a section of the subject, with a schematic diagram of an actual heat engine Whose prin ciple is to be exemplified. This plan seems to establish a thread of relationship among the several articles that follow, and tends to keep the student anchored to a rather definite conception, and to prevent the development from becoming, for him, a mere abstraction. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Engines and Boilers This text book on Engines and Boilers is intended for use in engineering schools which offer an elementary course in Heat Engines. NO attempt has been made to cover the more advanced work in Thermodynamics, or to give an exhaustive treatment Of the subject of Heat Power. This work is the result of the author's experience during the several years that he taught classes in Engines and Boilers and in allied subjects at Purdue University. Much Of the material was given to the students first in lectures, and later in the form of mimeographed notes. It is now presented in book form with the hope that it may be of value in other engineering schools. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
