Book Ground Temperature Data Summary Report for the Mackenzie Gathering Pipelines Mackenzie Valley Pipeline

Download or read book Ground Temperature Data Summary Report for the Mackenzie Gathering Pipelines Mackenzie Valley Pipeline written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Recent ground temperature data, collected by the Mackenzie Gas Project proponents and the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), are available for sites along the Mackenzie gathering pipelines and Mackenzie Valley pipeline corridor from the Mackenzie Delta to the Alberta boundary. Each site has at least one multi-sensor thermistor cable with maximum depth generally ranging from 8 to 20 m. There are 52 project sites with the latest readings from 2003 to 2005. All but one site near Fort Simpson are north of Norman Wells. The project has GSC data from 32 sites south of Norman Wells. The latest readings from those sites are mostly from 1999 to 2001. The number of readings varies greatly, depending on the site. Some sites have just a few manual readings. Other sites have data loggers that record daily readings. The total data record for project sites varies from less than a year to more than two years. The data record for the GSC sites varies from one to 17 years. The data was used to determine current mean annual ground temperature versus location along the pipeline system. The regional variation of mean annual ground temperature will be considered when selecting initial and boundary conditions for thermal simulations. Generally, permafrost temperatures are warming compared to temperatures in the 1970s. Changes in the regional mean annual ground temperature profile indicate a general warming of about 1°C over 30 years for an average warming rate of about 0.03°C per year. This is probably caused by the warming of mean annual air temperatures. This warming rate is consistent with published data for the Mackenzie Valley and Alaska, where data has been collected at specific sites for a number of years"--P. i.

Book Northern Forested Wetlands Ecology and Management

Download or read book Northern Forested Wetlands Ecology and Management written by Carl C. Trettin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-19 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forested wetlands are a major component of northern landscapes, important both for their ecological functions and their socioeconomic values. Historically, these lands have been used for timber and fiber products, hunting, fishing, trapping, food gathering, and recreation. There are many questions about the use and management of these lands in the future, particularly with respect to forest products, hydrology and water quality, plant and wildlife ecology, landscape dynamics, and wetland restoration. Northern Forested Wetlands: Ecology and Management provides a synthesis of current research and literature. It examines the status, distribution, and use of these wetland resources. The book focuses on understanding the role of wetlands in the landscape and on how to manage these wetlands and sustain their important functions. This is a primary reference text for the study and management of northern forested wetlands, providing a forum for information discovered by researchers and managers from many nations.
