Banks use BOLI to provide financial support to help reduce disruptions due to the death of a key executive and as a part of the executive compensation package. We investigate the characteristics of banks related to the amount of BOLI purchased. We find that BOLI purchases are positively related to bank size and leverage and negatively related to tax rates and employee salaries. Book Bank Owned Life Insurance and Bank Risk

Download or read book Bank Owned Life Insurance and Bank Risk written by Travis Davidson and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of bank-owned life insurance (BOLI) has more than tripled since 2001 and has caught the attention of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. We find increases in BOLI lead to higher levels of liquidity risk, credit risk, and interest rate risk. Robustness tests confirm these results and suggest over and under investment in BOLI and use of BOLI as a tax shelter contribute to risk increases. Results indicate that the concerns expressed by regulators are warranted, and suggest insurance may not always have the intended effect of reducing firm risk because of unintended consequences or misuse.

Book The Theory and Practice of Institutional Transplantation

Download or read book The Theory and Practice of Institutional Transplantation written by M. de Jong and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inevitably, at a panel discussion not too long ago comparing planning cultures the discussion turned on the issue of globalisation. As a member of the panel, this author asked those in the audience who lived and/or worked in a country different from their country of origin to raise their hands. About half of the audience of well over one hundred academic teachers and researchers from all comers of the world, the present author included did so. Next he asked who had a spouse or partner from a country different from their country of origin to also raise their hands. About half of the audience, the present author included, raised their hands. This is the soft side of globalisation. The soft side of globalisation is important. Exchanges, personal mobility, international romances, multi-culturalism and multi-lingualism (inevitably meaning non-native speakers struggling to keep up with native English speakers) are part of the academic scene, so much so that we can hardly imagine it to be otherwise. These are not entirely new phenomena, but they have become ever more prominent, relying on an ever more elaborate institutional infrastructure of exchange programmes, international journals, associations and the global conference industry. It was at the AESOP (Association of European Schools of Planning) congress at Bmo in the Czech Republic in July 2000 that the plan for this book was hatched.

Book Derivatives Theory and Practice

Download or read book Derivatives Theory and Practice written by Sunil Kumar Parameswaran and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2024-11-04 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though financial derivatives have been taught in courses in leading business schools for over 50 years, they are now universal, with exchanges having been set up around the globe. Excellent textbooks on derivatives are available. But many students in emerging markets desire a cogent and logical exposition that makes them aware of the specific challenges faced by their countries while developing exchanges. Derivatives Theory and Practice caters to this segment of readers whose requirements have not been adequately addressed in previous literature in the area. Unlike other heavily mathematical and quantitative works that prevent readers from understanding the underlying qualitative and conceptual facts, this book is a user-friendly resource to comprehend derivatives, especially those in the developing world, while also offering analysts and traders in first world markets adequate exposure to products and trading practices in emerging markets. Providing a balanced perspective focusing on both options as well as futures, this book will benefit both financial market professionals as well as students.
