Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There exists a general lack of biblical understanding for the idea of “testing” that emerges in the Old Testament as a significant theological theme. The faithful from both Old Testament and New Testament times are tested for their faith. This kind of experience often involves enduring hardship and difficult times. While often confused with the biblical idea of “temptation,” the biblical idea of testing stems from a metallurgical background and carries a unique covenantal function. Testing will be at the center of how God responds to the rebellion of his people and reveals God’s primary concern for the faith of his saints. Our study will first focus on the language of testing and explore the semantic range for the idea of testing that draws from both the biblical context, as well as the world of the ancient Near East. This study will then focus on the often overlooked Joseph narrative and its unique contribution to the theology of testing that is presented by the rest of the Pentateuch. Finally, the remainder of the biblical texts will be investigated on the theme of testing. The last chapter will appreciate the fact that God tests His sons—Adam, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Job, Israel and even Christ. It is through the experience of God’s tested sons that believers are invited to more fully and deeply understand their own experience of testing.

Book The Testing of Jesus in Q

Download or read book The Testing of Jesus in Q written by C. Michael Robbins and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2007 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The temptations of Jesus cast a spell on readers young and old. These temptations are macabre yet triumphant, short yet endless, ominous and dismal yet sacred and hopeful. Scholars have long been obsessed with the attempted seduction of the Saint and the successful sanitation of the Seducer. Where else but from Q could such an enchanting narrative derive? This book reviews scholarship and examines tradition history to argue that the pericope is more than a wisdom-derived scribal legitimation of the Teacher, a popular (and partially correct) theory about the story's origin and function in Q. It is a theological summit ascribing a unique sonship to Jesus. With diabolic dialogue in such sacred sites as Zion, Sinai, and the desert, protology and eschatology brew to form a muse on both the wilderness testing of Israel and the primeval testing of Adam. The brief expedition through the cosmos - from desert to empire to sanctuary - demonstrates a lordship of evil in the world, and thus a need for the reign of God and a context for Jesus' sonship, sermon, prayer, miracles, exorcisms, and even his death and resurrection. The tests present an approved champion (a Son of God), a conflict (a tryst with mortality and cosmic evil), and a conquest (resulting in an enthronement). These narratives, not supplied by Matthew and Luke, are found only in Q.

Book The Son of Man Glorified

Download or read book The Son of Man Glorified written by Jeff Reintgen and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-11-30 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John 13:3132: So, when he had gone out, Jesus said, Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him. If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately. Jesus Christ, the second Adam, the Son of Man, glorified God by His obedience to the cross. This work of redemption is the basis by which all the counsels of God are accomplished. All that God does for man, all that He works out on mankinds behalf, has its foundation upon the death of the Son of Man. God will eventually gather all thingsin heaven and on earthinto the raised and glorified Christ. God will be glorified in all that He does, and He has exalted the resurrected Son of Man to His right hand in glory. This is where it begins. When this Man had finished His work, He forever sat down in regards to a completed redemption (Heb. 10:12). From this point, all Gods counsels begin to unfold. If the believer will read this book, and ask the Spirit of God to teach you, you will never be the same. All of Scripture will open up to you. The believer has been given the Spirit of God that you may know all these things and you have the mind of Christ (I Cor. 2:12,16). Now the Son of Man is glorified

Book Living in a Test Tube

    Book Details:
  • Author : L. E. Lee
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2012-08
  • ISBN : 1477119779
  • Pages : 222 pages

Download or read book Living in a Test Tube written by L. E. Lee and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A deeply religious work about intellectual choice and the freedom to do what's good and follow the precepts of the God of Heaven. Living in a Test Tube by L.E. Lee is an inspired treatise that sees the world as a place of testing and formation of intellectual beings into those who would by choice either enter into the golden bliss of heaven or those who by choice are destined for the damnable fires of hell. With no fence straddling, he exemplifies how there are ultimately only two choices one for the good and one for the evil. The choice (or battle) between good and evil is not confined to simple equations, though ? rather, the complexity of God ́s creation is replicated in a planetary society whose primary God-inspired intellect is man. The Biblical records show how mankind has journeyed through in history making choices and living and dying by them. It also shows the different forces and factors in play throughout the passage of man's history that influences his choices. Lee clearly delineates this for his readers. Fifteen years ago, L.E. Lee was inspired to write Living in a Test Tube, but because of his experiences with lots of people having only a form of godliness and not holistically wanting to follow God at His Word, like Jonah thought of his preaching, L.E. Lee didn't think it would do any good either so he left off from completing the book until recently. Also because of his scientific background, he graphically draws upon scientific parallels to biblical references, to reflect the inspirational views of how life here on earth is primarily a test, how the planet Earth is the test tube, how the earth would be a much better environment if God's way was followed, and what it is that the great God of heaven has in store for those who serve Him. It is the hope and prayer of the author that every person who reads this book will at least engage in deeper spiritual reflection and at most turn with a sincere heart to prepare for what is to come upon this ?test tube? called planet Earth.
