Book Is the Body the Temple of the Soul

Download or read book Is the Body the Temple of the Soul written by Krzysztof Konecki and published by Jagiellonian University Press. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Hatha-yoga in Western culture is often perceived as the practice of physical exercises (practice of the asana position), usually done to improve one's health and emotional state. Even if that is the case, it is still based on the rule of "the silencing of the modifications of the mind." It is about a containment of mind dispersion in terms of non-important, minute, everyday issues, which are not important for the basis of our existence, balance and inner harmony, the unity of body and mind. even if we train only for our health and for improvement of our physical fitness, thenthe end result, in the case of many physical ans sports activities, is stoppping mind movement. The full concentration on one action, on one point in space, might not have any metaphysical meaning for us, but it still remains full concentration. This can be achieved by patiently practicing hatha-yoga."--Back cover.

Book The Surrender Experiment

Download or read book The Surrender Experiment written by Michael A. Singer and published by Yellow Kite. This book was released on 2016-09-22 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michael A. Singer, author of The Untethered Soul, tells the extraordinary story of what happened when, after a deep spiritual awakening, he decided to let go of his personal preferences and simply let life call the shots. As Singer takes you on this great experiment and journey into life's perfection, the events that transpire will both challenge your deepest assumptions about life and inspire you to look at your own life in a radically different way. Spirituality is meant to bring about harmony and peace. But the diversity of our philosophies, beliefs, concepts, and views about the soul often leads to confusion. To reconcile the noise that clouds spirituality, Michael Singer combines accounts of his own life journey to enlightenment - from his years as a hippie-loner to his success as a computer program engineer to his work in spiritual and humanitarian efforts - with lessons on how to put aside conflicting beliefs, let go of worries, and transform misdirected desires. Singer provides a road map to a new way of living not in the moment, but to exist in a state of perpetual happiness.

Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1897 edition. Excerpt: ... CHAPTER XI. THE SOUL. "The soul that sinneth, it shall die." --bible. I have already defined the soul as a vacuum, and herein appears the impossibility of it. The sublime and the ridiculous are so closely united that sometimes one is taken for the other. Modern philosophy, backed by science, says there are no vacuums; that "nature abhors vacuums "-- thus virtually admitting their existence; for how can nature abhor that which has no existence? It is not possible to conceive of a thing which has no foundation or existence. The supernatural is denied also, and that shows the weakness and nakedness of philosophy. The soul is supernatural, and it is a vacuum; but it is not given to ordinary minds to comprehend this. How can the natural mind believe in that which nature abhors? We instinctively try to destroy that which we abhor, and the mind that rejects a proposition is at variance therewith, and its thought is that of destruction. No man can conceive of the supernatural, except he have a something in himself in harmony with the idea. The soul is a vacuum--it is supernatural, because nature cannot destroy it; and that which is hidden is always superior to that which is visible. Soul corresponds to the feminine principle in nature, but this correspondence does not make a natural thing of it at all. It is not a thing, but that which gives birth to things. Attraction it: the feminine of nature, but this is not the soul, but that which the soul produces as a governing law in nature. In nature, things are moved by Contact and by Impact. Operations by contact are always downward. We cannot operate upwards, save as we receive that which is superior from above by impact. This is the way of the spirit. Spirit is Natural, Unnatural, Terrine, and...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Temple of our Soul is one of the most attractive spiritual texts of the late Middle Ages and early modern period. Written by an anonymous woman, who was also the author of influential The Evangelical Pearl, this masterpiece offers insights into the mystical aspects of Christianity that were widespread in Rhineland and the Low Countries. For political, socio-economic, and geographical reasons, spiritual writings from the Low Countries were highly influential in France, England, and Spain. Language barriers, however, have made the original texts inaccessible to many scholars and students. This bilingual edition offers the first English translation The Temple of our Soul together with the original Dutch text. This edition includes an introduction that provides insights into the text's key themes and the social context in which it was written. In addition to students of medieval mysticism, it will also be of interest to scholars of late medieval and early modern vernacular literature and feminist theology.
