Book Temple of Eternity

Download or read book Temple of Eternity written by R. Scott Boyer and published by Main Street Publishing. This book was released on 2020-09-24 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deep in the rain forests of Guatemala, an ancient Mayan temple holds a mythical secret. The legendary Fountain of Youth lies within, but not all myths are fairy tales. The temple ruins have been seized by the Core, a sinister cult determined to unlock the mysteries of immortality. When their captured friends are spotted near the temple, Bobby and his cousin Jinx must journey into the dark heart of the jungle to save them. Harnessing their extraordinary abilities, the boys will undertake an epic quest to fulfill a centuries-old prophecy. Cut off from their allies, Bobby and Jinx combat supernatural barriers, raging rivers, and deadly beasts. They’ll face savage natives, vengeful ghosts, and ruthless mercenaries who can conjure a person’s darkest fears. Past and present will collide, with the power of eternity on the line. Can Bobby fulfill the prophecy and lay the temple’s spirits to rest? If not, Bobby and his friends may become permanent inhabitants of the Temple of Eternity. Book Review 1: "Temple of Eternity is the second book in the Bobby Ether series, and provides teen fantasy readers with another fine adventure. Think Indiana Jones, but on a level geared to young adult adventure story readers. Add a dash of cultural intrigue, with warrior descents of the Mayans determined to take action as souls are claimed by evil forces. Mix in a riddle that evokes the Fountain of Youth, yet seems to negate the legend behind it. What you end up with is a fast-paced adventure designed to keep young readers engaged and guessing throughout... Highly recommended." -- Diane Donovan, Midwest Book Review/Bookwatch

Book Icons in Time Persons in Eternity

Download or read book Icons in Time Persons in Eternity written by C.A. Tsakiridou and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-13 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Icons in Time, Persons in Eternity presents a critical, interdisciplinary examination of contemporary theological and philosophical studies of the Christian image and redefines this within the Orthodox tradition by exploring the ontological and aesthetic implications of Orthodox ascetic and mystical theology. It finds Modernist interest in the aesthetic peculiarity of icons significant, and essential for re-evaluating their relationship to non-representational art. Drawing on classical Greek art criticism, Byzantine ekphraseis and hymnography, and the theologies of St. Maximus the Confessor, St. Symeon the New Theologian and St. Gregory Palamas, the author argues that the ancient Greek concept of enargeia best conveys the expression of theophany and theosis in art. The qualities that define enargeia - inherent liveliness, expressive autonomy and self-subsisting form - are identified in exemplary Greek and Russian icons and considered in the context of the hesychastic theology that lies at the heart of Orthodox Christianity. An Orthodox aesthetics is thus outlined that recognizes the transcendent being of art and is open to dialogue with diverse pictorial and iconographic traditions. An examination of Ch’an (Zen) art theory and a comparison of icons with paintings by Wassily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, Mark Rothko and Marc Chagall, and by Japanese artists influenced by Zen Buddhism, reveal intriguing points of convergence and difference. The reader will find in these pages reasons to reconcile Modernism with the Christian image and Orthodox tradition with creative form in art.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fourth annual volume of the remarkably popular journal of biblical theology edited by Scott Hahn and his St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology. This volume features important new works by Hahn, Gary Anderson, John Cavadini, Brant Pitre, among others. Inspired by the ground-breaking work of Yves Congar and Jean Danielou, this volume includes original and thought-provoking contributions on such topics as: the Tabernacle and the origins of Christian mysticism; Jesus self-consciousness of being the new Temple and the new High Priest; and the doctrine of the indwelling of the Trinity in the soul; Hahn contributes a new perspective on the Gospel of John, showing how Israel's Temple and feasts are fulfilled in Christ and the sacraments of the Church. As the editors write in their introduction to this volume: The Temple theme is perhaps the richest in all of biblical theology, embracing the mysteries of Christ, Church, and Kingdom; liturgy, sacraments, and priesthood; salvation, sanctification, and divine filiation. These are the beautiful mysteries we contemplate in this volume of Letter & Spirit.

Book excerpt: It is not important for an author of a Christian book to get recognition from the status quo when dealing with God's Word. For John the Baptist made it plain to future believers when he said, "He must increase and I must decrease." Thus, the author's identity will remain as his pen name, "Deacon-X." More important is the message from the sixty-six books contained in the Bible that leads a lost soul from condemnation to justification, sanctification, and future glorification. All because Jesus died for lost sinners like you and me, of whom I am chief. This is a book not by a pastor, missionary, or Bible college professor, but an ordinary working stiff who refused to follow God's leading and settled for second best in the things of Christ for most of my pilgrimage. It took an illness to pry me away from my worldly pursuits and write down and record a few of my old and newer ministry messages on sections of my three favorite Bible books, Genesis, John's gospel, and Romans. Don't expect it to contain proper grammar but proper truth from this nameless conservative believer who was taught in the spirit of 2 Timothy 2:2 in a non-denominational gathering.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Five hundred years before Homer immortalized the Trojan Horse, the ancient Egyptians had already composed a tale of soldiers hiding Ali Baba-like in baskets to capture a besieged city. Shortly after the rise to power of the warrior pharaoh Ramesses II, Egyptian authors began to write stories about battles and conquest. However, these stories were not set in the present, but in the past: they were the world's first works of historical fiction. These literary recreations of past events, which preserve fascinating mixtures of fact and fiction, provide unparalleled information about topics as diverse as ancient Egyptian historiography, religion, and notions of humor and wit. Imagining the Past is the first volume to provide complete translations and commentary for the historical fiction composed during Egypt's New Kingdom. The four works include The Quarrel of Apepi and Seqenenre, The Capture of Joppa, Thutmose III in Asia, The Libyan Battle Story. An introduction explores Egyptian conceptions of the past, the universe of historical and literary texts in New Kingdom Egypt, and the definition of a new genre of Egyptian literature. Extensive commentary and new translations appear within each chapter, and a concluding analysis summarizes the audience and function of historical fiction as well as theology and historiography within the tales. Despite the fragmentary nature of the papyrus copies, the thorough research into the literary, political, and social context of each tale allows a modern reader to explore this forgotten literary subfield and appreciate the stories as works of historical fiction.

Book Eternity s Sunrise

Download or read book Eternity s Sunrise written by Leo Damrosch and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2015-10-28 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Blake, overlooked in his time, remains an enigmatic figure to contemporary readers despite his near canonical status. Out of a wounding sense of alienation and dividedness he created a profoundly original symbolic language, in which words and images unite in a unique interpretation of self and society. He was a counterculture prophet whose art still challenges us to think afresh about almost every aspect of experience—social, political, philosophical, religious, erotic, and aesthetic. He believed that we live in the midst of Eternity here and now, and that if we could open our consciousness to the fullness of being, it would be like experiencing a sunrise that never ends. Following Blake’s life from beginning to end, acclaimed biographer Leo Damrosch draws extensively on Blake’s poems, his paintings, and his etchings and engravings to offer this generously illustrated account of Blake the man and his vision of our world. The author’s goal is to inspire the reader with the passion he has for his subject, achieving the imaginative response that Blake himself sought to excite. The book is an invitation to understanding and enjoyment, an invitation to appreciate Blake’s imaginative world and, in so doing, to open the doors of our perception.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For centuries, the notion of everlasting life has been referred to as eternity. But is it really possible to live forever outside of ordinary time, and if so, how? In Eternity's Secret, Carisia Switala attempts to answer this question by examining the concept of eternity within a framework of relevant biblical passages and science. Switala, who holds a master's degree in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School, decodes time to validate that eternity is a real dimension of endless life that also allows for the likelihood of seeing the future, time travel, and immortality. Through her interpretations of relevant biblical passages and exploration of scientific theories and principles, Switala carefully examines how the Bible relates to philosophical and logical ideas and looks beyond the human inventions of calendars and clocks to comprehend time as eternal. Eternity's Secret shares a comprehensive examination of time viewed from a scientific and biblical framework intended to inspire others to search deep within for insight and knowledge about eternal life.
