Book The Teacher Advisor Program at St Augustine s Kyabram

Download or read book The Teacher Advisor Program at St Augustine s Kyabram written by Lynda Ann Farina and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Schools are constantly striving to improve their programs to become more effective centres of teaching and learning. At St. Augustine's College in Kyabram, the Teacher Advisor Program is one school's attempt to better meet the needs of their students. The Teacher Advisor Program matches students with a teacher who guides, supports and monitors the student's academic, social and emotional progress at school, in close partnership with the student's parents. Built around an innovative computer package, parties are informed about the student's school progress and are able to review past results and formulate learning goals for the future. This research sought the opinions of all key stakeholders within the Teacher Advisor Program to discern whether students felt more engaged at school. It also investigated whether parents felt a greater sense of connectedness to the school and examined the impact that this program was having on the school staff. Homes and schools can share in the progress of the pupil. Dialogue is real because it is built around and in partnership with the student. However, the reality of curriculum innovation is that, after the initial wave of enthusiasm from all parties wanes, there needs to be considered and deliberate school and systemic support structures put in place for the long term development of the Teacher Advisor Program. If schools are serious about meeting the social, emotional and academic needs of their students through the effective Teacher Advisor Program, then they need to consider the social, emotional and academic/professional needs of the teachers, rather than building a program around good will." -- Abstract.
