Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a new version of the classic ancient text, the Tao Te Ching, by Lao Tzu. It is based upon a new and revised translation, originally published in the book, The Secret Tao: Unearthing the Hidden History and Meaning of Lao Tzu, by D. W. Kreger. Then, as a fun experiment, Dr. Kreger did another version in which he substituted the word Force everywhere it says Tao, and substituted Jedi everywhere it says Holy-man or Sage . The result is truly astonishing. The fit between the Tao Te Ching and philosophy of The Force is uncanny. Each of the 81 verses reads like pearls of wisdom by Master Yoda himself. This version of Lao Tzu, dubbed The Tao of Yoda, was originally released as an e-book online, and the response was amazing. Combining Taoism and The Force is a natural! And, a new pop-culture phenomenon was born. It is a must-have gift for any fan of Star Wars, Pop Culture, Taoism, or Eastern Religion. So was Lao Tzu a Jedi knight from distant galaxy? You decide. And, may the Force be with you!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "Star Wars" series contains, for some, a philosophical basis. "The Tao of Star Wars" uses the motifs from the "Star Wars" series to explain the basic tenets of Taoism. Although some of these concepts are relatively familiar, such as acceptance, patience and simplicity, their nuances as they apply to Taoism are invigorated utilizing the "Star Wars" motifs The Tao Te Ching, after the Bible, is the most translated book in the world. Its reputed author, Lao Tzu, lived about 2600 years ago. Faced with a corrupt, competitive, egocentric society, which had lost its way (sound familiar), he left society riding upon an ox. He felt that society had lost the Tao and that was the cause of the decline of the civilization. Humans have always had an insatiable hunger for spiritual guidance and recently westerners have had a rekindled interest in the Tao. Perhaps it is because we see the same problems today that Lao Tzu saw in his day.

It was a deep philosophical look at life, the universe and everything. Today it ranks as one of the most widely translated books on Earth, second only to the Christian Bible. About 2477 years later, Star Wars was written by George Lucas. It was also a deep, philosophical look at life, the universe and everything. It is one of the most celebrated movies in history. What many people don't know is that Star Wars was deeply influenced by the Tao Te Ching. Book The Jedi in the Lotus

Download or read book The Jedi in the Lotus written by Steven Rosen and published by Arktos. This book was released on 2010 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jedi in the Lotus is the first-ever examination of the Star Wars universe from a Hindu perspective, illuminating many hitherto undiscovered aspects of the background and meaning of the widely acclaimed film series. We are shown how its creators were influenced by the famed mythologist, Joseph Campbell, whose reading of the ancient Indian Epics, the Ramayana and Mahabharata, can be seen throughout the Star Wars films. This book also demonstrates how the metaphysical understanding of the Jedi Knights and the divinity conceived of as 'the Force' have resonances with teachings passed down by Hindu gurus and mystics for centuries, and how fantastic worlds and technology similar to that of the Star Wars universe were described in myths that are millennia old - and may even have had some basis in reality. Finally, The Jedi in the Lotus shows us how the Hindu traditions at the basis of Star Wars offer an alternative vision to the purely materialistic, soulless world of modernity. Steven J. Rosen (Satyaraja Dasa) is an initiated disciple of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. He is also founding editor of the Journal of Vaishnava Studies and associate editor of Back to Godhead. He has published twenty-one books in numerous languages, including the recent Essential Hinduism (Rowman & Littlefield, 2008); The Yoga of Kirtan: Conversations on the Sacred Art of Chanting (FOLK Books, 2008); and Krishna's Other Song: A New Look at the Uddhava Gita (Praeger-Greenwood, 2010). 'In conclusion, I can only say that The Jedi in the Lotus is a breakthrough book when it comes to understanding the mythic depth of the Star Wars epics. Steven J. Rosen uses his masterful grasp of the Eastern traditions to explain the secrets of the most successful film series ever. This book also shows us why Joseph Campbell loved the wisdom tales from India, and, for those who found the Star Wars adventures memorable, this is a truly illuminating book.' - Dr. Jonathan Young, from the Foreword

Book The Tao of Ordinariness

Download or read book The Tao of Ordinariness written by Robert J. Wicks and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2019-10 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an invitation to come home to your authentic self in a world that is frequently mesmerized by "spin," narcissism, fantasy, and exhibitionism. Psychology and classic wisdom literature have, in various ways, long recognized the value for simply becoming who you are (i.e., ordinariness). However, this call is becoming increasingly drowned out by the many other voices that emphasize publicity and image-making over authenticity and humility. Renowned therapist and author Robert Wicks has written The Tao of Ordinariness as a way of beginning to address these tendencies in contemporary society. In this new countercultural work, the strength and joy of exploring who you are - and proceeding to share yourself with others in a way that they too can reclaim themselves - is revisited from a range of vantage points. The author specifically reexamines themes of humility, simplicity, letting go, self-awareness, "alonetime," resilience, and mentoring. In an era when people increasingly measure self-worth by external measures, such as the number of likes and views and followers on social media feeds (which have many individuals chasing impossible fantasies and living with a constant fear of "missing out"), Wicks offers a return to your authentic self.

Book The Way of the Tao Living an Authentic Life

Download or read book The Way of the Tao Living an Authentic Life written by Dennis M. Waller and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-04-30 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A treatise and interpretation of Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching by Dennis M Waller. The Tao is an ancient philosophy of living in the natural world. It shows the way of how to get back to being your Authentic Self, your Spiritual Self. The Tao has the power to help you reclaim your life from the temporal ego identity that is imprisoning you. With the Tao you can discover your Authentic Identity by getting back to the being-ness and oneness of living in the Divine Consciousness. Through discovering these truths we can become the creators of the universe instead of the passive observers we have been. We can learn to live life in the infinity of the now verses living in the clutches of the Ego. The Tao shows us how to grow detached from the ego identity by becoming in direct contact with our true intent and motives that was meant for us. When we do, we begin to see ourselves as we truly are. It is being authentic that we become reconnected to the divine source. What is the Way of the Tao? It is the way things are in their own natural progression of life and death. The way of intelligent design as shown in nature, this is the way of the Tao. It is the way without dogmas, formalities or religion. To live in the Tao is to live in peace and harmony. The Tao gives you the knowledge of being one with the higher realm of divine consciousness and to experience the innerconnectiveness to all living things. It is to have the awareness of being in this world while knowing that you are not part of it because you are more than all of this. You are one and 10,000 things at the same moment. You are the song that the bird sings, the breeze blowing through the trees, the fish swimming in a brook, the warmth of the sun shining from above, the coolness of the earth below your feet, you are life and death, all at once and not at all. There is no separation in the Divine Oneness. The Tao contains the power to liberate you from the ego-imposed prison of the dualistic world. Living in the Tao can bring a deep inner peace and a reconnection to the divine source. The wisdom of the Tao is in a practical sense, a way to live life with the clarity of knowing the universal truth. When you are living in the Tao, you will see resistance and opposition fade away. Conflict and stress will become distant memories. The issues of life become irrelevant or will simply disappear once you start living your authentic self with the Tao. The Tao shows how to transcend all those insurmountable obstacles that the ego has created. There is another level of existence that is the real, true, genuine substance of who you are. This is the authentic self. The authentic self is the real you that can be found at your absolute core. It is the part of you not defined by your job, function, nationality, religion, race or role in life. It is the composite of all your skills, talents and wisdom. It is all of the things that are uniquely yours and need expression, rather than what you believe you are supposed to be and do. The choice we need to make is whether to trust in our own nature, to be of a pure heart and mind or to live in a world where we are trying to control everything. We have seen that going against our nature provides no comfort or satisfaction for our souls. For authentic satisfaction, for true peace, we must learn to realize who we are and where we came from. The truth is all around us. You can hear the voice of god in the laughter of children at play and in the songs of the birds. You can see God in all his glory throughout all of nature. It is all around us to see and experience. Remember you are part of this universe and here to experience it. Be your Authentic Self and be one with it all. To live in the Tao and live your purpose is to live life to the fullest.

Book excerpt: The classic Taoist text freshly translated using the original Chinese script from Lao Tzu's time, and beautifully illustrated with seventeenth-century artwork. Renowned translator William Scott Wilson has rendered Lao Tzu's classic in the most authentic way possible, using both the ancient text and the even older Great Seal script used during Lao Tzu's time. The result is a new and nuanced translation, accompanied by gorgeous Chinese ink paintings and fascinating ancillary material. Wilson includes an introduction that tells the story of Lao Tzu, the "old man" and the "keeper of the archives," and wonderful notes to illuminate the text. He also includes two short essays--one explains the relationship between Taoism and Zen, and the other explores the roots that link the spiritual aspects of the Tao with the practice of Chinese and Japanese martial arts. Wilson's version of this ancient classic is wonderfully fresh and readable.

  • Author : Laozi
  • Publisher : SkyLight Paths Publishing
  • Release : 2006
  • ISBN : 1594732043
  • Pages : 210 pages

Download or read book Tao Te Ching written by Laozi and published by SkyLight Paths Publishing. This book was released on 2006 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The enduring wisdom of the Tao Te Ching can become a companion for your own spiritual journey. Reportedly written by a sage named Lao Tzu over 2,500 years ago, the Tao Te Ching is one of the most succinct--and yet among the most profound--spiritual texts ever written. Short enough to read in an afternoon, subtle enough to study for a lifetime, the Tao Te Ching distills into razor-sharp poetry centuries of spiritual inquiry into the Tao--the "Way" of the natural world around us that reveals the ultimate organizing principle of the universe. Derek Lin's insightful commentary, along with his new translation from the original Chinese--a translation that sets a whole new standard for accuracy--will inspire your spiritual journey and enrich your everyday life. It highlights the Tao Te Ching's insights on simplicity, balance, and learning from the paradoxical truths you can see all around you: finding strength through flexibility (because bamboo bends, it is tough to break); achieving goals by transcending obstacles (water simply flows around rocks on its way to the sea); believing that small changes bring powerful results (a sapling, in time, grows into a towering tree). Now you can experience the wisdom and power of Lao Tzu's words even if you have no previous knowledge of the Tao Te Ching. SkyLight Illuminations provides insightful yet unobtrusive commentary that describes helpful historical background, explains the Tao Te Ching's poetic imagery, and elucidates the ancient Taoist wisdom that will speak to your life today and energize your spiritual quest.
