Generally regarded as anti-Semitic, it is a collection of quotes from the Talmud and Zohar that the author claims illustrate that Judaism promotes hatred towards non-Jews to the point of promoting murder. Contents include: “Justinas Pranaitis”, “Jesus Christ in the Talmud”, “The Christians”, “Christians Must Be Avoided”, and “Christians Must Be Exterminated”. Justinas Bonaventura Pranaitis (1861 – 1917) was a Lithuanian Catholic priest who worked as Master of Theology and Professor of Hebrew at the Imperial Ecclesiastical Academy of the Roman Catholic Church in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Book excerpt: Father Pranaitis (1861-1917) was a Lithuanian Catholic priest, Russian Master of Theology and Professor of the Hebrew Language at the Imperial Ecclesiastical Academy of the Roman Catholic Church in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He published The Talmud Unmasked as an anti-Semitic tract called Christianus in Talmude Iudaeorum in Latin in 1892 under the imprimatur of the Archbishop Metropolitan of Mogilev. This tract was subsequently translated into Polish (1892), French (1892), German (1894), Russian (1911), Lithuanian (1912), Italian (1939), English (1939) and Spanish. In 1912, Pranaitis was called to testify as an expert witness in Jewish hatred of Christians in the famous case of Menahem Mendel Beilis. During the course of that trial his credibility rapidly evaporated, however, when the defense demonstrated his ignorance of some simple Talmudic concepts and definitions, such as hullin, to the point where many in the audience occasionally laughed out loud when he clearly became confused and couldn't even intelligibly answer some of the questions asked by my lawyer. According to accounts of the trial, "cross-examination of Pranaitis has weakened evidentiary value of his expert opinion, exposing lack of knowledge of texts, insufficient knowledge of Jewish literature. Because of amateurish knowledge and lack of resourcefulness, Pranaitis' expert opinion is of very low value." The significance of The Talmud Unmasked is as an influential anti-Semitic tract written from a Catholic perspective.

This book was released on 2011-08-12 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Talmud Unmasked is a book written in 1892 by I. B. Pranaitis (1861-1917). The book, generally regarded as antisemitic, is a collection of quotes from the Talmud and Zohar which purports to demonstrate that Judaism despises non-Jews and promotes the murder of non-Jews. While most of the quotes are accurate, some are fabricated, and others are taken out of context. Pranaitis could not read Aramaic or Hebrew (the languages of the Talmud), and probably used works by August Rohling and others as his sources. Various elements tend to prove that the author, whose incompetence was established unambiguously at the time of the Beilis trial, ignores the rabbinical literature which he intends to describe, unlike other Christian polemists from which he largely borrows. Pranaitis was not able to read Aramaic, the primary language of the Talmud, and so he relied primarily on the works of Jakob Ecker and August Rohling.

This booklet caused a storm when first published, and continues to do so today. The reader is left to answer the question: why?

Download or read book Christian Antisemitism written by Michael L. Brown and published by Charisma Media. This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hate isn’t a thing from history. The Jewish people and Israel have been described as “a dominant and moving force behind the present and coming evils of our day”; “a monstrous system of evil…[that] will destroy us and our children” if not resisted; and a group that seeks “the annihilation of almost every Gentile man, woman, and child and the establishment of a satanic Jewish-led global dictatorship.” What’s worse is that these comments were all made by professing Christians. Respected Messianic Bible scholar Michael L. Brown, PhD, documents shocking examples of modern “Christian” antisemitism and exposes the lies that support them. Carefully researched, this book shows that church-based antisemitism is no longer a thing of the past. Rather, a dangerous, shocking tide on the rise, and it could be present in your church today. Dr. Brown shows you how to stem this tide now and overcome its evil with the powerful love of the cross! This book will show you how to confront everyday antisemitism in all areas of your life and become a champion for the people of Israel.

Download or read book The Qur an in Christian Muslim Dialogue written by Corrie Block and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offering an analysis of Christian-Muslim dialogue across four centuries, this book highlights those voices of ecumenical tone which have more often used the Qur’an for drawing the two faiths together rather than pushing them apart, and amplifies the voice of the Qur’an itself. Finding that there is tremendous ecumenical ground between Christianity and Islam in the voices of their own scholars, this book ranges from a period of declining ecumenism during the first three centuries of Islam, to a period of resurging ecumenism during the most recent century until now. Among the ecumenical voices in the Christian-Muslim dialogue, this book points out that the Qur’an itself is possibly the strongest of those voices. These findings are cause for, and evidence of, hope for the Christian–Muslim relationship: that although agreement may never be reached, dialogue has led at times to very real mutual understanding and appreciation of the religious other. Providing a tool for those pursuing understanding and mutual appreciation between the Islamic and Christian faiths, this book will be of interest to scholars and students of Islam, the Qur’an and the history of Christian-Muslim relations.
Download or read book Antisemitism in Canada written by Alan Davies and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first collection of scholarly essays to treat the topic of antisemitism in Canada, a complete history of which has yet to be written. Eleven leading thinkers in the field examine antisemitism in Canada, from the colonial era to the present day, in essays which reflect the saga of the nation itself. The history of the Jewish community, its struggles and its fortunes is mirrored in the wider history of Canada, from Confederation to the present. The contributors cast light on Canadian antisemitism through a thorough examination of old and new tensions, including Anglo-French, east-west and Jewish-Ukrainian relations. Attitudes to Jews in pre-Confederation Canada, French Canada from Confederation to World War I as well as the interwar years, and in twentieth-century Ontario and Alberta from 1880-1950 are illustrated in various chapters. Of particular interest are the examinations of such well-known figures as Goldwin Smith, the greatly admired liberal historian of Victorian Canada, Adrien Arcand, the would-be Führer from Quebec, and James Keegstra and Ernst Züdel, of more recent notoriety. Analyses are also provided of Nazism and Canadian Protestantism and Jewish-Ukrainian relations since World War II. This is a complex and contentious subject; yet, to understand the ideas and forces that have sought to undermine the Jewish presence in Canada is to understand the dangers that threaten any democratic society, and thereby to guard against them. This compelling collection of essays offers intelligent, readable accounts of an area of Canadian history about which we know too little.
Download or read book Joseph of Arimathea written by Mark McGiveron and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2020-01-09 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joseph of Arimathea, the graveside attendant to the crucified Jesus, is one of the most mysterious figures in the New Testament. The Gospels make no mention of him during Jesus' early ministry. Then he steps out of the shadows and takes centre stage at the pivotal moment upon which the central mystery of Christianity is based. He then seemingly disappears from Church history. The ‘Acts of the Apostles’ makes no mention of him and neither do the Epistles. To the sceptical tradition this disappearance suggests that no such person ever existed. In this booklet Mark McGiveron assesses the often-proposed theory that Joseph of Arimathea is mythological and was created by the Gospel writers to aid the narrative of the entombment of Jesus. The present study thus represents a ‘back door’ entry to the study of the historicity of the Gospels and in particular the Passion accounts within them.

Book excerpt: This volume introduces students of rabbinic literature to the range of historical and interpretative questions surrounding the rabbinic texts of late antiquity. The editors, themselves well-known interpreters of Rabbinic literature, have gathered an international collection of scholars to support students' initial steps in confronting the enormous and complex rabbinic corpus. Unlike other introductions to Rabbinic writings, the present volume includes approaches shaped by anthropology, gender studies, oral-traditional studies, classics, and folklore studies.
Download or read book A Child of Christian Blood written by Edmund Levin and published by Schocken. This book was released on 2014-02-25 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Jewish factory worker is falsely accused of ritually murdering a Christian boy in Russia in 1911, and his trial becomes an international cause célèbre. On March 20, 1911, thirteen-year-old Andrei Yushchinsky was found stabbed to death in a cave on the outskirts of Kiev. Four months later, Russian police arrested Mendel Beilis, a thirty-seven-year-old father of five who worked as a clerk in a brick factory nearby, and charged him not only with Andrei’s murder but also with the Jewish ritual murder of a Christian child. Despite the fact that there was no evidence linking him to the crime, that he had a solid alibi, and that his main accuser was a professional criminal who was herself under suspicion for the murder, Beilis was imprisoned for more than two years before being brought to trial. As a handful of Russian officials and journalists diligently searched for the real killer, the rabid anti-Semites known as the Black Hundreds whipped into a frenzy men and women throughout the Russian Empire who firmly believed that this was only the latest example of centuries of Jewish ritual murder of Christian children—the age-old blood libel. With the full backing of Tsar Nicholas II’s teetering government, the prosecution called an array of “expert witnesses”—pathologists, a theologian, a psychological profiler—whose laughably incompetent testimony horrified liberal Russians and brought to Beilis’s side an array of international supporters who included Thomas Mann, H. G. Wells, Anatole France, Arthur Conan Doyle, the archbishop of Canterbury, and Jane Addams. The jury’s split verdict allowed both sides to claim victory: they agreed with the prosecution’s description of the wounds on the boy’s body—a description that was worded to imply a ritual murder—but they determined that Beilis was not the murderer. After the fall of the Romanovs in 1917, a renewed effort to find Andrei’s killer was not successful; in recent years his grave has become a pilgrimage site for those convinced that the boy was murdered by a Jew so that his blood could be used in making Passover matzo. Visitors today will find it covered with flowers. (With 24 pages of black-and-white illustrations.)
