Book excerpt: The investigation of the chemistry of the boratophosphazene N(PCl 2NMe)2BCl2 led to the first examples of borazine-phosphazene hybrid cations [N(PCl2NMe)2BCl]+, which possess planar rings, and are formally hybrids of two textbook classes of inorganic heterocycles. The skeletal replacement of a boron atom in an inorganic ring with a heteroelement has been discovered from the treatment of N(PCl 2NMe)2BCl2 with Ag[AsF6] or Ag[SbF 6]. This provides a novel approach to the synthesis of heterocycles containing As(V) and Sb(V) which are difficult to prepare via conventional routes. The thionylphosphazene cation [NSO(NPCl2)2] +, was synthesized as a highly reactive intermediate, which cleaves diethyl ether to yield the sulfur-ethoxy substituted species, NSO(OCH 2CH3)(NPCl2)2, and reacts with 1,2-dichloroethane to yield NSO(CH2CHCl2)(NPCl2)2. Treatment of NSOCl(NPCl2)2 with SbCl5 produces macrocycles, [NSOCl(NPCl2)2]n (n = 2-6); whereas the similar reaction with GaCl3 provides a new, convenient, ambient temperature route to poly(thionylphosphazene) [NSOCl(NPCl2) 2]n. These transformations presumably occur 'via' a cationic mechanism. The reactions of cyclic thionylphosphazenes NSOX(NPCl2) 2 (X = Cl or F) with three oxygen-based nucleophiles [NaOPh, NaOCH 2CF3 and NaOBu] were found to proceed regioselectively; first at phosphorus and secondly at sulfur. The substitution of the rings has been extended to the synthesis of new mixed substituent poly[(alkoxy/amino)thionylphosphazenes] which are useful in pressure sensing composite materials. The first examples of highly strained sulfur-, selenium- and boron-bridged [1]ferrocenophanes have been synthesized and the ring-tilts (>31°) are the largest for any known [1]ferrocenophane. Extended Hûckel MO calculations were performed and predicted a decrease in the HOMO-LUMO gap as the ring tilt increases from ferrocene to Fe([eta]-C5H4)2S. Thermal and anionic ROP of Fe([eta]-C5H3Me)2S yields the first soluble poly(ferrocenylsulfide).

Book New Aspects in Phosphorus Chemistry I

Download or read book New Aspects in Phosphorus Chemistry I written by Jean-Pierre Majoral and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-03-05 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Undoubtedly the chemistry of phosphorus appears more and more attractive in the sense that phosphorus presents an extraordinary versatile behaviour that allows the synthesis of a large number of different phosphorus reagents usable for applications in different fields, from biology to material science without f- getting key applications in catalysis. The full maturity of this topic of research can be explained by all the acquired knowledge over these twenty last years. Organic and inorganic chemistries of P, P and P species have been the s- in]V v ject of thousands of publications while the chemistry of low coordinated ph- phorus derivatives experienced its hour of glory from the 1970s to the early 1990s. In parallel, interactions between phosphorus compounds and transition metals afforded many complexes, a lot of which present fascinating properties as catalysts. The interest in all these themes really is not decreasing, indeed some fas- nating areas of research are emerging or are the subject of many investigations: the medicinal chemistry of bisphosphonates, the role of phosphorus in biology, phosphorus ligands in radiopharmaceutical chemistry, phosphorus in material science, new polymers and dendrimers incorporating phosphorus, and as- metric catalysis to name but a few. Indeed researchers, benefitting from their background in basic phosphorus chemistry are developing many new fields of research.

Book Handbook of Chalcogen Chemistry

Download or read book Handbook of Chalcogen Chemistry written by Francesco Devillanova and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2013-07-25 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Chalcogen Chemistry: New Perspectives in Sulfur, Selenium and Tellurium provides an overview of recent developments, particularly from the last decade, on the chemistry of the chalcogen group elements (S, Se and Te). While up to a few decades ago, chalcogen chemistry was mainly centred on sulphur, in recent years the research based on Se and Te has increased dramatically, and has created huge scope for the use of compounds based on this type of chemistry. The Handbook is organised into two parts, the first of which deals systematically with the chemistry of chalcogens in relation to other group elements in the periodic table. It also includes an overview of metal-chalcogenides and metal-polychalcogenides. The second part reflects the interdisciplinary nature of chalcogen chemistry and focuses on biological, materials and supramolecular aspects of the field. This Handbook gives a comprehensive overview on recent developments over the last decade and is ideal for researchers in the field.

Book Chalcogen nitrogen Chemistry From Fundamentals To Applications In Biological Physical And Materials Sciences Updated Edition

Download or read book Chalcogen nitrogen Chemistry From Fundamentals To Applications In Biological Physical And Materials Sciences Updated Edition written by Tristram Chivers and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-10-12 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chalcogen-nitrogen chemistry involves the study of compounds that exhibit a linkage between nitrogen and sulfur, selenium or tellurium atoms. Since the publication of A Guide to Chalcogen-Nitrogen Chemistry in 2005, the emphasis of investigations of chalcogen-nitrogen compounds has advanced from a focus on fundamental studies to the development of practical applications, as indicated by the title of this new edition. Pharmaceutical applications of organic sulfur-nitrogen compounds include drugs for the treatment of various diseases, as well as probes for locating tumour cells. From a materials perspective, carbon-containing chalcogen-nitrogen heterocycles have applications in everyday devices such as LEDs and solar cells. A new technology based on binary sulfur nitrides is being used for fingerprint detection in forensic science. As a result, this book includes seven new chapters and updates the others with extensive literature coverage of developments since 2005 while retaining earlier seminal results. This comprehensive text is essential for anyone working in the field, and the four introductory chapters emphasise general concepts that will be helpful to the non-specialist. The treatment is unique in providing a comparison of sulfur, selenium and tellurium compounds. Each chapter is designed to be self-contained, and there are extensive cross-references between chapters.
