Two lines of investigation have been started: (i) the synthesis of 5-vinyl substituted pyrimidine ribonucleosides and (ii) the synthesis of potential ribonucleoside 5' -triphosphate analogues. A series of compounds of type (i) have been synthesised and submitted for biological evaluation. One compound of type (ii) has been made and further work is in progress.
