Download or read book Protection of Materials and Structures from Space Environment written by J. Kleiman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-12-31 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ICPMSE-6 meeting continued the discussions started in 1992 when this conference series was started. The proceedings of ICPMSE-6 conference contain the latest developments in the area of the effects of the space environment on materials and structures and the ways to prevent and/or reduce them. For the first time, information on environment factors affecting the behavior of materials in GEO and MEO orbits was included in the topics. The main mandate of the meeting, as in the past years was to: promote the dissemination of experimental data and experience among research organizations, and scientists gathered in ground and flight experiments; learn about the latest advances in the field of material's and structures' protection in space environment and to provide a basis for interaction and utilization of ideas; review the latest research and development in topics such as: effects of space environment on materials and structures, predictive models for interaction of materials with space environment factors, and alternative ways for protection from space environment. #/LIST#
Download or read book Metal Organic Frameworks written by Victoria Samanidou and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-03-27 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal–organic frameworks are among the most promising novel materials. The concept of MOFs was first introduced in 1990. They were actually initially used in catalysis, gas separation, membranes, electrochemical sensors. Later on, they were introduced as SPE sorbents for PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) in environmental water samples, then the range expanded to the field of analytical chemistry, both in chromatographic separation and sample preparation, with great success in, e.g., SPE and SPME (Solid Phase Mico-extraction). Since then, the number of analytical applications implementing MOFs as sorbents in sorptive sample preparation approaches is increasing. Τhis is reinforced by the fact that, at least theoretically, an infinite number of structures can be designed and synthesized, thus making tuneability one of the most unique characteristics of MOF materials. Moreover, they have been designed in various shapes, such as columns, fibers, and films, so that they can meet more analytical challenges with improved analytical features.Their exceptional properties attracted the interest of analytical chemists who have taken advantage of the unique structures and properties and have already introduced them in several sample pretreatment techniques, such as solid phase extraction, dispersive SPE, magnetic solid phase extraction, solid phase microextraction, stir bar sorptive extraction, etc.
Download or read book Modern Strategies for Heterocycle Synthesis written by Gianfranco Favi and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-03-17 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heterocycles feature widely in natural products, agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and dyes, and their synthesis is of great interest to synthetic chemists in both academia and industry. The contributions of recent applications of new methodologies in C–H activation, photoredox chemistry, cross-coupling strategies, borrowing hydrogen catalysis, multicomponent and solvent-free reactions, regio- and stereoselective syntheses, as well as other new, attractive approaches for the construction of heterocyclic scaffolds are of great interest. This Special Issue is dedicated to featuring the latest research that is ongoing in the field of heterocyclic synthesis. It is expected that most submissions will focus on five- and six-membered oxygen and nitrogen-containing heterocycles, but structures incorporating other rings/heteroatoms will also be considered. Original research (communications, full papers and reviews) that discusses innovative methodologies for assembling heterocycles with potential application in materials, catalysis and medicine are therefore welcome.

Download or read book Natural Polymers and Biopolymers II written by Sylvain Caillol and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-05-05 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BioPolymers could be either natural polymers – polymer naturally occurring in Nature, such as cellulose or starch…, or biobased polymers that are artificially synthesized from natural resources. Since the late 1990s, the polymer industry has faced two serious problems: global warming and anticipation of limitation to the access to fossil resources. One solution consists in the use of sustainable resources instead of fossil-based resources. Hence, biomass feedstocks are a promising resource and biopolymers are one of the most dynamic polymer area. Additionally, biodegradability is a special functionality conferred to a material, bio-based or not. Very recently, facing the awareness of the volumes of plastic wastes, biodegradable polymers are gaining increasing attention from the market and industrial community. This special issue of Molecules deals with the current scientific and industrial challenges of Natural and Biobased Polymers, through the access of new biobased monomers, improved thermo-mechanical properties, and by substitution of harmful substances. This themed issue can be considered as collection of highlights within the field of Natural Polymers and Biobased Polymers which clearly demonstrate the increased interest in this field. We hope that this will inspire researchers to further develop this area and thus contribute to futures more sustainable society.”
Download or read book Novel Selenium Mediated Rearrangements and Cyclisations written by Sohail Anjum Shahzad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-11 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his thesis, Sohail Shahzad carefully investigates carbon nucleophiles in selenocyclisations, as well as reaction protocols for performing such reactions catalytically. After a comprehensive introduction to the element selenium, the author goes on to report the synthesis of several substrates for carbocyclisation reactions and the use of selenium reagents for the preparation of dihydronaphthalenes. Further chapters detail electrophilic selenium-mediated reactions, and novel strategies using selenium catalysts together with stoichiometric amounts of hypervalent iodine reagents as oxidants to convert stilbene carbosylic acids into the corresponding isocoumarins. This thesis outlines some excellent new synthetic routes which will be useful tools for synthetic organic chemistry in the future.
Download or read book Metal Organic Framework written by Xian-He Bu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-28 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series Topics in Current Chemistry Collections presents critical reviews from the journal Topics in Current Chemistry organized in topical volumes. The scope of coverage is all areas of chemical science including the interfaces with related disciplines such as biology, medicine and materials science. The goal of each thematic volume is to give the non-specialist reader, whether in academia or industry, a comprehensive insight into an area where new research is emerging which is of interest to a larger scientific audience. Each review within the volume critically surveys one aspect of that topic and places it within the context of the volume as a whole. The most significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years are presented using selected examples to illustrate the principles discussed. The coverage is not intended to be an exhaustive summary of the field or include large quantities of data, but should rather be conceptual, concentrating on the methodological thinking that will allow the non-specialist reader to understand the information presented. Contributions also offer an outlook on potential future developments in the field.
