Book The Synthesis of Some Aminoazobenzene and Hetarylazo Disperse Dyes

Download or read book The Synthesis of Some Aminoazobenzene and Hetarylazo Disperse Dyes written by Afsaneh Taebi and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A range of monoazo and disazo dyes based on 4-aminoazobenzene have been prepared. Differences in colour, dyeing and fastness properties between monoazo and disazo dyes have been reported. Their structure-property relationships with respect to the electronic spectra of the dyes, and to their coloration and fastness properties on polyester fibres have been investigated. 2-Amino-4,5-(4,6-; 4,7-; and 5,7-)dichlorobenzothiazoles have been prepared by the cyclisation of the corresponding dichlorophenyl- thiourea with concentrated sulphuric acid and ammonium bromide. The phenylthioureas were obtained from benzoylisothiocyanate and the appropriate amines, and subsequent hydrolysis of the resulting benzothioureas with aqueous sodium hydroxide or sulphuric acid. Coloration and lightfastness evaluations of the dichlorobenzo- thiazolylazo dyes on polyester fibres indicate that they can be viable alternative to anthraquinone based dyes of similar hue. Structure-property relationships with respect to the electronic spectra of the dyes have been investigated.

Book Synthesis and Properties of Some Disazo and Hetarylazo Dyes

Download or read book Synthesis and Properties of Some Disazo and Hetarylazo Dyes written by Chien-Te Wu and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general survery of the preparation and application of disazo dyes, imidazole dyes, pyrazole dyes and their related intermediates has been made. A range of disazo dyes has been prepared by the synthesis of the ... methanesulphonate salts of aniline and its substituted analogues, and their subsequent coupling reaction in the synthesis of the intermediate monoazo dye followed by a second diazotization and coupling reaction to give the required disazo dyes. Colour-structure relationships are discussed, and PPP MO calculations used to evaluate colour and structure relationships. The synthesis of a series of azo colourants from diazotised arylamines and 4(5)-cyano- 5(4)-hydroxyimidazole is described. The dyes exhibit a large bathochromic shift of the visible absorption maxima relative to analogous dyes derived from carbocyclic coupling components. A series of pyrazolyazo dyes was also synthesized, the hues of which varied from yellow to red. The dyes did not a exhibit bathochromic shift of the visible absorption maxima relative to analogous dyes derived from carbocyclic diazo components, but gave bright hues characteristic of heterocyclic dyes. The colour-structure relationships are discussed.

Book The Chemistry and Application of Dyes

Download or read book The Chemistry and Application of Dyes written by David R. Waring and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is particularly appropriate that a volume concerned with dye chemistry should be included in the series Topics in Applied Chemistry. The development of the dye industry has been inexorably linked not only with the development of the chemical industry but also with organic chemistry itself since the middle of the last century. The position of dye chemistry at the forefront of chemical 1945 and more markedly so during the last advance has declined somewhat since 15 years, with pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry assuming an increasingly prominent position. Nevertheless, dye production still accounts for a significant portion of the business of most major chemical companies. The field of dye chemistry has stimulated the publication of many books over the years but surprisingly few have concentrated on or even included the practical aspects of dye synthesis and application. Thus, the present volume is designed to fulfill that need and provide the reader with an account of advances in dye chemistry, concentrating on more recent work and giving, in a single volume, synthetic detail and methods of application of the most important classes, information which will be invaluable to both student and research chemist alike.

Download or read book Dyes and Pigments written by Ahmet Gürses and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-04 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the authors go back to basics to describe the structural differences between dyes and pigments, their mechanisms of action, properties and applications. They set the scene by explaining the reasons behind these differences and show how dyes are predominately organic compounds that dissolve or react with substrates, whereas pigments are (predominantly) finely ground inorganic substances that are insoluble and therefore have a different mode of coloring. They also describe the role of functional groups and their effect on dyeing ability, contrasting this with the way in which pigments cause surface reflection (or light absorption) depending on their chemical and crystalline structure and relative particle size. The book explores the environmental impact of dyes in a section that covers the physical, chemical, toxicological, and ecological properties of dyes and how these are used to assess their effect on the environment and to estimate whether a given product presents a potential hazard. Lastly, it assesses how, in addition to their traditional uses in the textile, leather, paper, paint and varnish industries, dyes and pigments are indispensable in other fields such as microelectronics, medical diagnostics, and in information recording techniques.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S-centered Radicals Edited by Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Israel Sulfur containing radicals, formed from sulfur emissions from natural sources (e.g. volcanoes), power plants and from car exhausts, play an important role in our atmosphere. In the living cell, sulfur constitutes an essential part of the defence against oxidative damage and in the course of this mechanism is transformed into a variety of sulfur free radical species. S-centered Radicals deals with the organic radicals containing sulfur atoms, RS*, RSO*, RSO_2* and R_3S and the inorganic radicals, *SH and SO_x*. This is the book to bring together all the recent developments of S-centered radical chemistry. This area is extremely important to organic synthetic chemists and environmentalists. S-centered radicals are of increasing interest in biochemistry and medicine due to S-containing amino-acids and S-S bonds in proteins. Sulfur radicals are also involved in polymer chemistry and photonic materials as well as in radiation protection and nutrition. This title is the essential volume for anyone working in sulfur chemistry.

Book Organic Chemistry in Colour

Download or read book Organic Chemistry in Colour written by Paul Francis Gordon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The foundations of the chemical dyestuffs industry were laid in 1856 when W. H. Perkin discovered the dye Mauveine. At approximately the same time modern chemistry was establishing itself as a major science. Thus, the chemistry of dyes became that branch of organic chemistry in which the early scientific theories were first used. This early eminence has now been largely lost. In fact, many of our academic and teaching institutions pay little attention to this vitally important branch of organic chemistry. We believe that this book will help to rectify this unfortunate situation. The majority of books that have been published on the subject of dyes have been technologically biased and, in our opinion, do not appeal to the mainstream organic chemist. We have, therefore, aimed at producing a book which emphasises the role of organic chemistry in dyestuffs and we have included appropriate modern theories, especially the modern molecular orbital approaches. We have assumed that the reader possesses a knowledge of the basic principles of organic chemistry;* the only other requirement is a general interest in organic chemistry.** The book should interest the newcomer to chemistry, the established academic, and the dyestuffs chemist himself.
