Book Magnetism and Transition Metal Complexes

Download or read book Magnetism and Transition Metal Complexes written by F. E. Mabbs and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2008-01-11 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents a detailed view of the calculation methods involved in the magnetic properties of transition metal complexes. Starting at an elementary level, it proceeds gradually through theory and calculations to offer sufficient background for original work in the field. No specialized knowledge of magnetism is assumed in the introductory chapters, which offer basic definitions and generalizations of magnetic behavior and briefly review both crystal field theory and perturbation theory. Succeeding chapters explore calculations of the magnetic properties of cubic and axially distorted complexes. Featuring the complete calculation for spin-orbit coupling and magnetic field perturbations for one d-configuration, the text also discusses derivations and results for other configurations. Other topics include the magnetism of polynuclear species, in which antiferromagnetic ordering occurs over small numbers of centers. Detailed calculations by the dipolar coupling approach are given, and the results are applied to a number of studies from the literature.

Book Introduction to Magnetochemistry

Download or read book Introduction to Magnetochemistry written by Alan Earnshaw and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Magnetochemistry provides an introduction to the more important aspects of magnetochemistry. The measurement of magnetic moment has been one of the most consistently useful to coordination chemists. For teaching purposes it provides a simple method of illustrating the ideas of electronic structure, and in research it can provide fundamental information about the bonding and stereochemistry of complexes. The book contains six chapters covering topics such as free atoms and ions, transition metal complexes, crystal field theory, second and third row transition metal complexes, antiferromagnetism, and spin-pairing of electrons. The final chapter describes important experimental methods and then to shows briefly the way in which the problems of interpretation may be tackled.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of an activity-directed isolation process is to isolate bioactive compounds which may provide structural leads of therapeutic importance. Whereas the traditional process of drug development is long and expensive, simple and rapid bioassays can serve as the starting point for drug discovery. This book presents a range of "bench top" bioassa

Book Low Frequency Vibrations of Inorganic and Coordination Compounds

Download or read book Low Frequency Vibrations of Inorganic and Coordination Compounds written by John R. Ferraro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the course of far-infrared investigations of inorganic and coordina tion compounds at Argonne National Laboratory in the years 1962-1966, it became apparent that no suitable book existed which correlated and dis cussed the important vibrations occurring in this region for these molecules. Early in 1967 the initial steps were taken to write such a book. Then, in 1968, an excellent text by Professor David M. Adams entitled Metal-Ligand and Related Vibrations was published. At this point serious consideration was given to discontinuing work on this book. However, upon examination of Adams' book, it became clear that the references covered only the period to 1966. This field of research is accelerating so tremendously, and the period 1966-1969 has seen so many new studies, that upon reconsideration it was decided to continue writing this text. The references in this book, particularly in the last several chapters, include many papers published in 1969. However, the proliferation of the far-infrared literature has made it impossible to present all the published material that has any bearing on the subject. Many titles do not pertain primarily to the far-infrared region as such, and some of this research has been omitted for this reason. Organometallic compounds have been neglected since the author feels that adequate reviews of that subject are available. Other studies may be missing simply because, owing to space limitations, only the more important researches could be considered. Of course, "importance" may, in this case, reflect the author's interest and prejudices.

Using computational programs to solve advanced problems is widely used in the design and analysis of for example new molecules, surfaces, drugs and materials. This book will present novel innovations in the field, with real-life examples of where computational technologies serves as an indispensible tool.

Book Spin States in Biochemistry and Inorganic Chemistry

Download or read book Spin States in Biochemistry and Inorganic Chemistry written by Marcel Swart and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-09-22 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has long been recognized that metal spin states play a central role in the reactivity of important biomolecules, in industrial catalysis and in spin crossover compounds. As the fields of inorganic chemistry and catalysis move towards the use of cheap, non-toxic first row transition metals, it is essential to understand the important role of spin states in influencing molecular structure, bonding and reactivity. Spin States in Biochemistry and Inorganic Chemistry provides a complete picture on the importance of spin states for reactivity in biochemistry and inorganic chemistry, presenting both theoretical and experimental perspectives. The successes and pitfalls of theoretical methods such as DFT, ligand-field theory and coupled cluster theory are discussed, and these methods are applied in studies throughout the book. Important spectroscopic techniques to determine spin states in transition metal complexes and proteins are explained, and the use of NMR for the analysis of spin densities is described. Topics covered include: DFT and ab initio wavefunction approaches to spin states Experimental techniques for determining spin states Molecular discovery in spin crossover Multiple spin state scenarios in organometallic reactivity and gas phase reactions Transition-metal complexes involving redox non-innocent ligands Polynuclear iron sulfur clusters Molecular magnetism NMR analysis of spin densities This book is a valuable reference for researchers working in bioinorganic and inorganic chemistry, computational chemistry, organometallic chemistry, catalysis, spin-crossover materials, materials science, biophysics and pharmaceutical chemistry.
