Book Introduction to Analytical Methods for Internal Combustion Engine Cam Mechanisms

Download or read book Introduction to Analytical Methods for Internal Combustion Engine Cam Mechanisms written by J J Williams and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-19 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern design methods of Automotive Cam Design require the computation of a range of parameters. This book provides a logical sequence of steps for the derivation of the relevant equations from first principles, for the more widely used cam mechanisms. Although originally derived for use in high performance engines, this work is equally applicable to the design of mass produced automotive and other internal combustion engines. This work may also be applicable for cams used in other areas such as printing and packaging machinery. Introduction to Analytical Methods for Internal Combustion Engine Cam Mechanisms provides the equations necessary for the design of cam lift curves with an associated smooth acceleration curve. The equations are derived for the kinematics and kinetics of all the mechanisms considered, together with those for cam curvature and oil entrainment velocity. This permits the cam shape, all loads and contact stresses to be evaluated, and the relevant tribology to be assessed. The effects of asymmetry on the manufacture of cams for finger follower and offset translating curved followers is described, and methods for transformation of cam shape data to that for a radial translating follower are given. This permits the manufacture and inspection by a wider range of CNC machines. The calculation of unsteady camshaft torques is described and an outline given for evaluation of the components for the lower engine orders. Although the theory, use and design, of reactive pendulum dampers are well documented elsewhere, these subjects have also been considered for completeness. The final chapter presents analysis of push rod mechanisms, including a four bar chain mechanism, which is more robust Written both as a reference for practising automotive design and development Engineers, and a text book for automotive engineering students, Introduction to Analytical Methods for Internal Combustion Engine Cam Mechanisms gives readers a thorough introduction into the design of automotive cam mechanisms, including much material not previously published.

This book was released on 2007-06-26 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first part of a series of books whose aim is to collect contributed papers describing the work of famous persons in MMS (Mechanism and Machine Science). The current work treats mainly technical developments in the historical evolution of the fields that today are grouped in MMS. The emphasis is on biographical notes describing the efforts and experiences of people who have contributed to technical achievements.

Book Cam Design and Manufacturing Handbook

Download or read book Cam Design and Manufacturing Handbook written by Robert L. Norton and published by Industrial Press Inc.. This book was released on 2009 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of computers for engineering design, and in CNC for manufacturing, has dramatically changed the cam design and manufacturing process. Additionally, cam design and manufacturing have been affected by a significant number of fundamental research results published in recent years. This new edition offers changes which have been made throughout the book to update its information with the latest technology from the engineering literature and from the author's research and that of his students. Beginning at an introductory level and progressing to more advanced topics, this it provides all the information needed to properly design, model, analyze, specify, and manufacture cam-follower systems. It is truly a comprehensive resource that brings together up-to-date cam design technology, correct design and manufacturing procedures, and recent cam research results-all in one volume Additionally, this unique book is accompanied by a 90-day trial demonstration copy of the Professional Version of Dynacam. Written by the author and used worldwide, this program solves the equations described in the book and allows in its fully licensed version the design, dynamic modeling, analysis, and generation of follower center, cam surface, and cutter coordinate data for any cam. It also defines conjugate cams for any application. Includes a completely rewritten and updated chapter on splines, along with a discussion of shape-preserving splines as currently used for automotive valve-train cams. Features added coverage of multi-degree of freedom models and of followers with deliberate impact events within the chapter on dynamic modeling. Covers Globoidal cams in several chapters. Provides a definitive solution to the torque compensation cam design problem. Program Dynacam is much enhanced and improved and is available at a preferred price to purchasers of the book.

Book Solenoid Operated Variable Valve Timing for Internal Combustion Engines

Download or read book Solenoid Operated Variable Valve Timing for Internal Combustion Engines written by Girish Parvate-Patil and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In internal combustion engines, particularly for spark ignition (SI) engines, valve events and their timings put forth a major influence on the engine overall efficiency and its exhaust emissions. By using variable valve timing (VVT) technology it is possible to control the valve lift, phase, and valve timing at any point on the engine map, in order to enhance the engine overall performance. In this study, effects of variable valve timing strategies on gasoline and diesel engines are discussed and analyzed. Also the static characteristics of a solenoid incorporating a permanent magnet as its core are developed, and validated with experiments. The permanent magnet core solenoid is novel in that a single electromagnet can provide bi-direction motion of the core motion. Its application to VVT can provide infinite position control and timing, force control such as to reduce impact forces, and latching capabilities, providing a novel actuator to the automotive industry.

Book Digital Calculations of Engine Cycles

Download or read book Digital Calculations of Engine Cycles written by E. S. Starkman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital Calculations of Engine Cycles is a collection of seven papers which were presented before technical meetings of the Society of Automotive Engineers during 1962 and 1963. The papers cover the spectrum of the subject of engine cycle events, ranging from an examination of composition and properties of the working fluid to simulation of the pressure-time events in the combustion chamber. The volume has been organized to present the material in a logical sequence. The first two chapters are concerned with the equilibrium states of the working fluid. These include the concentrations of various species of any significance that may appear at equilibrium in the combustion products, as well as the pressures and temperatures to be expected. This is followed by separate chapters on Mollier diagrams of the combustion products and the Otto cycle. The last two chapters focus on the synthesis of the spark ignition engine cycle from basic information on thermodynamics, heat transfer, and combustion. The results of the synthesis of these cycles are then compared to the actual cycle produced by an engine.
