Book Symplectic Manifolds with no Kaehler structure

Download or read book Symplectic Manifolds with no Kaehler structure written by Alesky Tralle and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a research monograph covering the majority of known results on the problem of constructing compact symplectic manifolds with no Kaehler structure with an emphasis on the use of rational homotopy theory. In recent years, some new and stimulating conjectures and problems have been formulated due to an influx of homotopical ideas. Examples include the Lupton-Oprea conjecture, the Benson-Gordon conjecture, both of which are in the spirit of some older and still unsolved problems (e.g. Thurston's conjecture and Sullivan's problem). Our explicit aim is to clarify the interrelations between certain aspects of symplectic geometry and homotopy theory in the framework of the problems mentioned above. We expect that the reader is aware of the basics of differential geometry and algebraic topology at graduate level.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Features notes with sections containing a description of some of the basic constructions and results on symplectic manifolds and lagrangian submanifolds. Book Manifolds of Nonpositive Curvature

Download or read book Manifolds of Nonpositive Curvature written by Werner Ballmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a complete and self-contained description of new results in the theory of manifolds of nonpositive curvature. It is based on lectures delivered by M. Gromov at the Collège de France in Paris. Therefore this book may also serve as an introduction to the subject of nonpositively curved manifolds. The latest progress in this area is reflected in the article of W. Ballmann describing the structure of manifolds of higher rank.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing an up-to-date overview of the geometry of manifolds with non-negative sectional curvature, this volume gives a detailed account of the most recent research in the area. The lectures cover a wide range of topics such as general isometric group actions, circle actions on positively curved four manifolds, cohomogeneity one actions on Alexandrov spaces, isometric torus actions on Riemannian manifolds of maximal symmetry rank, n-Sasakian manifolds, isoparametric hypersurfaces in spheres, contact CR and CR submanifolds, Riemannian submersions and the Hopf conjecture with symmetry. Also included is an introduction to the theory of exterior differential systems.

Book Submanifold Theory

    Book Details:
  • Author : Marcos Dajczer
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2019-08-02
  • ISBN : 1493996444
  • Pages : 628 pages

Download or read book Submanifold Theory written by Marcos Dajczer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-02 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive introduction to Submanifold theory, focusing on general properties of isometric and conformal immersions of Riemannian manifolds into space forms. One main theme is the isometric and conformal deformation problem for submanifolds of arbitrary dimension and codimension. Several relevant classes of submanifolds are also discussed, including constant curvature submanifolds, submanifolds of nonpositive extrinsic curvature, conformally flat submanifolds and real Kaehler submanifolds. This is the first textbook to treat a substantial proportion of the material presented here. The first chapters are suitable for an introductory course on Submanifold theory for students with a basic background on Riemannian geometry. The remaining chapters could be used in a more advanced course by students aiming at initiating research on the subject, and are also intended to serve as a reference for specialists in the field.

Book Minimal Submanifolds and Related Topics

Download or read book Minimal Submanifolds and Related Topics written by Y. L. Xin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bernstein problem and the Plateau problem are central topics inthe theory of minimal submanifolds. This important book presents theDouglasOCoRado solution to the Plateau problem, but the main emphasisis on the Bernstein problem and its new developments in variousdirections: the value distribution of the Gauss image of a minimalsurface in Euclidean 3-space, Simons'' work for minimal graphichypersurfaces, and author''s own contributions to Bernstein typetheorems for higher codimension."

Book Symplectic 4 Manifolds and Algebraic Surfaces

Download or read book Symplectic 4 Manifolds and Algebraic Surfaces written by Fabrizio Catanese and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-04-17 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern approaches to the study of symplectic 4-manifolds and algebraic surfaces combine a wide range of techniques and sources of inspiration. Gauge theory, symplectic geometry, pseudoholomorphic curves, singularity theory, moduli spaces, braid groups, monodromy, in addition to classical topology and algebraic geometry, combine to make this one of the most vibrant and active areas of research in mathematics. It is our hope that the five lectures of the present volume given at the C.I.M.E. Summer School held in Cetraro, Italy, September 2-10, 2003 will be useful to people working in related areas of mathematics and will become standard references on these topics. The volume is a coherent exposition of an active field of current research focusing on the introduction of new methods for the study of moduli spaces of complex structures on algebraic surfaces, and for the investigation of symplectic topology in dimension 4 and higher.

Book Lectures on K hler Manifolds

Download or read book Lectures on K hler Manifolds written by Werner Ballmann and published by European Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2006 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes are based on lectures the author gave at the University of Bonn and the Erwin Schrodinger Institute in Vienna. The aim is to give a thorough introduction to the theory of Kahler manifolds with special emphasis on the differential geometric side of Kahler geometry. The exposition starts with a short discussion of complex manifolds and holomorphic vector bundles and a detailed account of the basic differential geometric properties of Kahler manifolds. The more advanced topics are the cohomology of Kahler manifolds, Calabi conjecture, Gromov's Kahler hyperbolic spaces, and the Kodaira embedding theorem. Some familiarity with global analysis and partial differential equations is assumed, in particular in the part on the Calabi conjecture. There are appendices on Chern-Weil theory, symmetric spaces, and $L^2$-cohomology.

Book Geometry of Submanifolds

Download or read book Geometry of Submanifolds written by Bang-yen Chen and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents a detailed account of some recent results in the field of real submanifolds. It includes an extensive bibliography for those readers who wish to do further research in this area. The first two chapters provide the background material in Riemannian geometry and the theory of submanifolds necessary to the understanding of the main part of the text. Among the many topics examined are the following: minimal submanifolds, including classical results on the first variation of the volume integral; submanifolds with parallel mean curvature vector; conformally flat manifolds; and umbilical submanifolds. The last chapter offers discussions on geometric inequalities of submanifolds, results in Morse theory and their applications, and total mean curvature of a submanifold. Problems are given at the end of each chapter to supplement the textual material. Geometry of Submanifolds is of special interest to advanced graduate students and to all mathematicians working with classical and modern differential geometries.
