Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cutting-edge analysis on how to improve life inside the Gaza Strip through architecture and design, illustrated in full-color The Gaza Strip is one of the most beleaguered environments on earth. Crammed into a space of 139 square miles (360 square kilometers), 1.8 million people live under an Israeli siege, enforcing conditions that continue to plummet to ever more unimaginable depths of degradation and despair. Gaza, however, is more than an endless encyclopedia of depressing statistics. It is also a place of fortitude, resistance, and imagination; a context in which inhabitants go to remarkable lengths to create the ordinary conditions of the everyday and to reject their exceptional status. Inspired by Gaza’s inhabitants, this book builds on the positive capabilities of Gazans. It brings together environmentalists, planners, activists, and scholars from Palestine and Israel, the US, the UK, India, and elsewhere to create hopeful interventions that imagine a better place for Gazans and Palestinians. Open Gaza engages the Gaza Strip within and beyond the logics of siege and warfare, it considers how life can be improved inside the limitations imposed by the Israeli blockade, and outside the idiocy of violence and warfare. Download or read book The Rural Landscape of Ancient Israel written by Aren M. Maeir and published by British Archaeological Reports Oxford Limited. This book was released on 2003 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By publishing these ten essays in English in the BAR series the research carried out by the contributors, and the evidence and fieldwork methodologies they cite, is made available to a much wider audience. This volume contains an important collection of case studies and overviews of rural settlement in Israel from late prehistory to the modern period. Addressing broad questions on the physical nature of settlements, their appearance and disappearance from the archaeological record, the relationship between rural and urban sites, settlement patterns and processes, and economic activities, the contributors offer a good cross-section of approaches to the subject.

Download or read book Dothan I written by Daniel M. Master and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2005-06-30 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The city of Dothan appears both in the Joseph narratives (Genesis 37) and as the city to which Elisha the prophet fled from the Arameans—and where the king of the Arameans sent an army to attempt to retrieve him (2 Kings 6:13). In the late 1950s and early 1960s, excavations at the site were sponsored by Wheaton College (Illinois), with Joseph P. Free as Director. This first volume publishes the results of those excavations and will be welcomed by all who wish to study the material at greater length. Chapters on the history of the expedition, methodology, Early Bronze Age and Late Bronze Age, the Iron Age, the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine eras are complemented by studies on stone and metal artifacts, Iron II seal impressions, and Rhodian stamp seal impressions. The volume is profusely illustrated, with more than 200 photos and drawings and 2 color plates. Volume 2 of the series will report on the Western Cemetery at Dothan, which was the source of a rich repertoire of Late Bronze Age pottery.
