Book The Surgical Treatment of Ulcer of the Stomach Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Surgical Treatment of Ulcer of the Stomach Classic Reprint written by C. Mansell Moullin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Surgical Treatment of Ulcer of the Stomach The reason of this discrepancy is simply that the condition of the mucous membrane of the stomach during life, especially when it is inflamed, is absolutely different from what it is after death. During life, and especially while digestion is going on, the mucous mem brane is exceedingly well supplied with blood. It is soft, bright red, thick, and full of fluid. After death it is thin, bloodless, flaccid, and in colour a pale slaty gray - it hardly looks like the same structure, the difference is so great; and in cases of acute ulceration, owing to the inflammatory changes in the surrounding tissues, the difference is greater still. Immediately around the ulcer the mucous membrane is swollen, con gested and raised above the level of the rest. Its colour is bright red, though the interior of the stomach may be paler than natural from loss of blood. Here and there I have seen the surface dotted with little blood-stained points from vessels that have given way. The sides of the ulcer are thickened and oedematous, and so soft and swollen that if the ulcerated surface is small, and does not extend deeper than the mucous membrane, they meet together over it and convert it into a narrow fissure. After death, when the blood pressure has fallen, especially in cases in which the vessels have been emptied by previous haemorrhage, all this thickening disappears, and then the ulcer assumes the crater-like form which is usually described; but I have never seen this during life. This book was released on 2021-03-03 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Atlas comprehensively covers minimally invasive operative techniques for benign and malignant cancer surgery of the esophagus and stomach. It provides easy-to-follow instructions accompanied by a range of pictures and illustrations, as well as a collection of interactive videos to aid the reader in developing a deeper understanding of each surgical procedure. Techniques covered include minimally invasive surgical treatment for esophageal and gastric cancer including different approaches such as thoracoscopic, transhiatal, laparoscopic, and robot-assisted resections. These chapters include different types of cervical and intrathoracic anastomoses after esophageal resections, and different anastomoses and reconstructions after gastrectomy. Moreover, the Atlas includes an extensive description of minimally invasive procedures in bariatric surgery including sleeve resection, gastric bypass, biliopancreatic diversion, and others. Minimally invasive approaches for other benign pathologies such as benign tumors and treatment of gastroduodenal ulcer complications are also depicted. All chapters, written by a renowned and experienced international group of surgeons and their teams, are focused on practical step-by-step description of the techniques. Atlas of Minimally Invasive Techniques in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery systematically describes the most frequently performed surgical procedures of the esophagus and stomach and is a valuable resource for all practicing surgeons and trainee general surgeons dedicated to upper gastrointestinal surgery, such as bariatric and surgical oncologists.

Book Clinical Algorithms in General Surgery

Download or read book Clinical Algorithms in General Surgery written by Salvatore Docimo Jr. and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-04 with total page 786 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the field of general surgery continues to expand, the diagnostic and therapeutic pathways are becoming more complex. The diagnostic modalities available to the clinician can be both very helpful but also overwhelming considering the findings can often determine the scope of treatment for a patient. This text will take the major pathologies of the systems commonly studied in general surgery and present them in a unique format based upon algorithms. The algorithms will begin with the clinical presentation of the patient, work its way through the various diagnostic modalities available to the surgeon, and finally allow the physician to make a decision regarding treatment options based upon various patterns in the algorithms. This text will become a very useful resources for surgeons as it allows complex clinical pathways to be conveniently organized in logical algorithms. It will become a concise yet comprehensive manual to assist in clinical decision making. All algorithms will be reviewed by experts in their field and include the most up-to-date clinical and evidence-based information. Clinical Algorithms in General Surgery provides a useful resource for surgeons in clinical practice as well as surgical residents, and surgical attendings who are preparing for board examinations. Book Helicobacter pylori Gastritis and Peptic Ulcer

Download or read book Helicobacter pylori Gastritis and Peptic Ulcer written by Peter Malfertheiner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Helieobaeter pylori has recently been recognized as a new genus according to specific taxonomic criteria; the "popular" name Campylobaeter pylori has been corrected by scientific progress. Following the discovery of the spiral microorgan ism in gastric mucosa by Marshall and Warren in 1982, it took only a few years for H. pylori to become established as a factor in the pathogenesis of gastritis and peptic ulcer disease. Interest in different aspects of H. pylori has grown continuously and has attracted scientists from various medical and biological disciplines such as gastroenterology, microbiology, pathology, immunology, and pharmacology. Indeed H. pylori provides an excellent model for interdisciplinary interaction and cooperation. To promote this concept of interdisciplinary research and exchange of knowledge, a European Campylobacter (Helicobacter) Pylori Study Group was founded in 1987 in Copenhagen. The second meeting of this expanding group was held from October 12-14,1989 in Ulm, FRG. The fact that more than 500 participants attended the conference and that 187 original contributions from all five continents were presented clearly confirmed that H. pylori has "scientifically infected" the whole world. Our understanding of the microbiological and pathogenetic aspects of H. pylori is continuously being challenged as new results follow swifthy from different research areas. This book includes an update and progress report on the various aspects of H. pylori presented and discussed in special workshops held during the meeting in Ulm.

Download or read book Management of Gastric Cancer written by Paul H. Sugarbaker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gastric cancer has been one of the great malignant scourges affecting man kind for as long as medical records have been kept. Until operative resection pioneered by Bilroth and others became available, no effective treatment was feasible and death from cancer was virtually inevitable. Even with resection by total gastrectomy, the chances of tumor eradication remained small. Over recent years, however, the situation has been changing. Some changes have resulted from better understanding of the disease, early detec tion, and better management techniques with applied clinical research, but the reasons for other changes are poorly understood. For example, the incidence of gastric cancer is decreasing, especially in westernized societies, where it has fallen from one of the most common cancers to no longer being in the top five causes of cancer death. Still it remains the number one killer of adult males in Japan and Korea. Whether the reduced incidence in western societies is a result of dietary changes or methods of food preservation, or some other reason, is as yet uncertain. Improvements in outcome have been reported from mass screening and early detection; more refined techniques of establishing early diagnosis, tumor type, and tumor extent; more radical surgical resection; and resection at earlier stages of disease.
