Book Heart of Atlanta

Download or read book Heart of Atlanta written by Ronnie Greene and published by Chicago Review Press. This book was released on 2022-01-18 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Heart of Atlanta Supreme Court decision stands among the court's most significant civil rights rulings. In Atlanta, Georgia, two arch segregationists vowed to flout the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the sweeping slate of civil rights reforms just signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson. The Pickrick restaurant was run by Lester Maddox, soon to be governor of Georgia. The other, the Heart of Atlanta motel, was operated by lawyer Moreton Rolleston Jr. After the law was signed, a group of ministry students showed up for a plate of skillet-fried chicken at Maddox's diner. At the Heart of Atlanta, the ministers reserved rooms and walked to the front desk. Lester Maddox greeted them with a pistol, axe handles, and a mob of White supporters. Moreton Rolleston refused to accept the Black patrons. These confrontations became the centerpiece of the nation's first two legal challenges to the Civil Rights Act. In gripping detail built from exclusive interviews and original documents, Heart of Atlanta reveals the saga of the case's rise to the US Supreme Court, which unanimously rejected the segregationists. Heart of Atlanta restores the legal cases and their heroes to their proper place in history.

He chose to give every part of Himself, Rather than lose the tiniest, single part of humanity! For He would rather 'lose' His own soul, temporarily, so that He might gain the whole world, permanently! Yet, He would have willingly 'lost' His own soul, permanently, if He could have only gained the whole world, temporarily! He chose to ascend the Cross of crucifixion, and endure unimaginable agony, rather than have humanity continue to descend into the horrors of insanity! No other human would have believed as did He, that the full-gathered momentum of all departures from Love could be overcome by one man! Divine, though He was, this had never been accomplished by anyone, much less even imagined! Yet, He did believe this, and overcame it He did! He Declared and Proclaimed that Truth, and Love, and Faith, and Hope, Defenselessness, and Forgiveness could undo all mistakes, wrong, and evil. And proved it so! Not only that Love was stronger than hate, but rather that there was no contest! His Life secured salvation for all his brothers and sisters, His life redeemed a world. His life will bring Peace to the Universe, and Goodwill to all! His Message will be recognized for precisely what He said It was - the Message from the ONE God of Love, to the ONE humanity - of the Father of Love! His Life will one day be extolled by every man who has ever lived. And His Words will be engraved within the hearts of all men that ever beat! His glorious, divine human person will be reverenced, adored, and worshipped in every land, by every culture, by every inhabitant, within and on - every world! He was Sent by the Source of ALL Holiness as The Heart of Life! The Heart of Love! The Heart of all men - YET TO BE! He IS Humanity's Beacon! Humanity's LIGHT!

Book excerpt: "As we struggle to subdue our own mind, will, and emotions to Christ; as we strive to preserve unity and mutual love for one another in the Body of Christ; as we attempt to advance the Kingdom of God and make disciples of all the nations-we do not contend with people's hearts and minds; we contend with the spiritual forces of darkness." -from chapter one Where are you in the spiritual warzone? In this stirring book, Christians are called to realize that they have been drafted into God's army and are even now taking a part-be it as combatant, captive, victim, or an instrument of the enemy-in the war against Satan and his minions. Jackson seeks to uncover the spiritual forces at work within the spheres of geopolitical unrest, the deterioration of the family, and the warring forces within individuals. He encourages readers to find their places in Jesus Christ, connect with the Body of Christ, and use their gifts to achieve maximum impact for God's Kingdom.

Book The Oneness of the Eastern Heart and the Western Mind

Download or read book The Oneness of the Eastern Heart and the Western Mind written by Sri Chinmoy and published by Aum Publications. This book was released on 2014-03-22 with total page 1706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This historic collection of all of Sri Chinmoy’s university lectures in eBook form has been released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Sri Chinmoy’s arrival in the West on 13 April 1964. Sri Chinmoy’s very first university lecture was given at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, on 10 January 1968. It was entitled “Spirituality: What It Is and What It Is Not.” This inaugurated a whole era of talks which saw Sri Chinmoy travelling ceaselessly across the length and breadth of America and around the world to address the youth of each country. He would spend countless hours travelling by car or train to reach far- flung universities, sometimes visiting two or even three in the course of a single day. After many of these sublimely inspiring discourses, he would answer questions from the audience or spend time instructing sincere seekers in the age-old practices of concentration, meditation and contemplation. By the mid-seventies, Sri Chinmoy had spoken volumes and he began to include longer and longer periods of silent meditation in his lectures. Then, in 1984, in a significant departure from the spoken word, he introduced the theme of Peace Concerts. At these concerts, Sri Chinmoy would play his own soulful and devotional compositions on a variety of instruments of both Eastern and Western origin, meditating between each instrument and sometimes giving aphorisms on peace and related themes. In 2003 yet another form of Sri Chinmoy’s self-offering unfolded when he travelled to a number of universities to honour distinguished professors for their significant contributions to the betterment of humanity by physically lifting them overhead. This remarkable endeavour was part of his “Lifting Up the World With a Oneness-Heart” award programme. Thus, through words, silence, music and a combination of physical and spiritual upliftment, Sri Chinmoy has shared his profound spiritual message with the aspiring Truth- seekers and God-lovers of the university-world for four decades. Sri Chinmoy’s words are mantras for the modern age, reverberating in our hearts with their timeless and truly life-transforming wisdom. In his exquisite prose, which is suffused with the very breath and cadence of poetry, Sri Chinmoy has revealed all the many stages of the seeker’s journey towards the Golden Shores of the ever-transcending Beyond. For generations to come these three volumes will awaken the inner mounting cry of seekers everywhere to achieve the highest Goal of Yoga—union with God—in this life.

Book Heart of Violence

  • Author : Paul Valent
  • Publisher : Australian Scholarly Publishing
  • Release : 2020-08-07

Download or read book Heart of Violence written by Paul Valent and published by Australian Scholarly Publishing. This book was released on 2020-08-07 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Violence is the plague of our civilization. Its many tentacles – domestic violence, criminal violence, sexual abuse, terrorism, state violence, revolution, war and genocide tentacles – threaten us. The new discipline of traumatology amply describes the consequences of violence. But there is as yet no corresponding discipline of violentology to explain why violence occurs in the first place. Inexorably, Paul Valent was drawn professionally to take the leap from healing the minds of victims to trying to understand the minds of perpetrators. Valent unpicks the minds of perpetrators in each field of violence. He develops a lens for illuminating violence, whether individual or international, primitive or spiritual. We come to understand how aggressions that helped our species to survive now threaten it with extinction. Valent explains his thesis by recounting many stories. One story interwoven throughout is his own. A child who survived the Holocaust, he examines the minds of his perpetrators in his quest to prevent future violence. Violence, for Valent, is not an isolated feature of the human condition. Surprisingly close to violence are struggles for love. Readers also learn about that aspect of humanity.
