Download or read book The Supramental Manifestation Upon Earth written by Sri Aurobindo and published by Lotus Press (WI). This book was released on 1949-12-01 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sri Aurobindo represents a synthesis of the teachings of both the West and the East. Not content simply with dissolution into a transcendental, other-worldly God-consciousness, nor with concentration on the outer life and its powers to the exclusion of anything other or higher, Sri Aurobindo has created the teachings of a Divine Life on Earth. This volume comprises all of Sri Aurobindo's shorter prose writings on Yoga and philosophy written after 1910 and published during his lifetime. The present edition differs from the first (Centenary) edition in several respects. The contents have been ordered to follow strictly the arrangement of the material as it was issued by Sri Aurobindo in his lifetime.

Book Sri Aurobindo and the Mother

Download or read book Sri Aurobindo and the Mother written by Kireet Joshi and published by Motilal Banarsidass Publishe. This book was released on 1989 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aryadeva's Catuhsataka, along with the work of Nagarjuna, provided the philosophical basis for much of subsequent Mahayana Buddhism. Like Nagarjuna's Mulamadhyamakakarikas, it too was commented upon by Vijnanavada, or Idealist, thinkers as well as by those of the Madhyamaka, or Middle Way school. Thus the Catuhsataka was interpreted in very different, and yet philoslophically rich, fashioned by its sixth century commentators, Dharmapala and Candrakirti: the former saw it as only refuting ascriptions of imagined natures (parikalpitasvabhava) to phenomena while leaving real natures untouched; the latter interpreted Aryadeva's work as a thorough going rejection of all real intrinsic natures (svabhava) whatsoever. Tom Tillemans, in this reprint of his 1990 doctoral thesis, takes up the key themes in Dharmapala's and Candrakirti's philosophies and translates two chapters from their respective works on Catuhsataka. Both commentaries had a strong influence on subsequent Buddhism: Candrakirti's was important for Tibetan developments; Dharmapala's played a formative role in the increasingly marked differentiation between Vijnanavada and Madhyamaka philosophies.

Book The Autonomous Adult and Karma Yoga

Download or read book The Autonomous Adult and Karma Yoga written by Tulsi Bhandari and published by Partridge Publishing. This book was released on 2013-05-24 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book must be of use to those who look for deeper ways of living and self-development or who are educationists, psychologists, and spiritual seekers. It will take the reader beyond the mental psychological insights provided by the method of transactional analysis for understanding and improving relationships, as devised by Eric Berne, to the spiritual realms wherein hide the true meaning and purpose of human life, works, relationships, and growth. The book will be of interest to those who wish to derive from the spiritual method provided by the Gita the meaning of yoga as applied to human life and its importance in achieving peace and joy amid the contradictions and conflicts faced by the seeker. The writer has studied and followed Sri Aurobindos extensive writings on Indian spiritual traditions, which make the foundation of his integral yoga, seeking a complete preparation of human life for enlarging and receiving a higher truth consciousness and a transformation of human life on earth, which must be mandatory for the flowering of such an aspiration. The book reflects a synthetic approach centered around the Gita and some subtle psychological observations about the traditional and current Indian societal patterns.

Book Seven Quartets of Becoming

Download or read book Seven Quartets of Becoming written by Debashish Banerji and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Groomed in a modern academic tradition and post-Enlightenment ideals of creative freedom and social critique, Sri Aurobindo (1872-1950) turned his attention to yoga and the limits of consciousness in its ability to relate to and transform nature. In the process, he documented scrupulously his experiments and experiences based on a synergistic existential framework of practice. Debashish Banerji correlates the approach to yoga Sri Aurobindo took in his diaries with his later writings, to derive a description of human subjectivity and its powers. Banerji constellates Sri Aurobindo's approach with transpersonal psychology and contemporary lineages of phenomenology and ontology, to develop a transformative yoga psychology redefining the boundaries and possibilities of the human and opening up lines of self-practice towards a wholeness of being and becoming. Both scholar and Yogi, Aurobindo (1872-1950) carefully documented the unfolding of spiritual consciousness starting shortly after his deep revelatory experiences while in prison in 1908. His observations were recently published in a two volume set, The Record of Yoga. Debashish Banerji has analyzed this work and offers a detailed, clear, systematic and inspirational interpretation of how the Yoga of Sri Aurobindo may be understood and practiced.

Book The Origin and the Overcoming of Evil and Suffering in the World Religions

Download or read book The Origin and the Overcoming of Evil and Suffering in the World Religions written by P. Koslowski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All religions face the challenge of explaining, in view of God's goodness, the existence of evil and suffering in the world. They must develop theories of the origin and the overcoming of evil and suffering. The explanations in Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism of evil and suffering and their origin, as well as these world religions' theories of how to overcome evil and suffering, differ from one another, but are also similar in many respects. The human person is always considered to be the origin of evil, and also to be the focus of aspirations to be able to overcome it. The conviction that evil and suffering are not original and can be overcome is characteristic of and common to the religions. The explanations of the origin of evil are closely related to the explanations of the continuation and propagation of evil in human persons, in nature, and in our technology and culture that have been developed in the religions - in Christianity, for example, as the doctrine of original sin. Finally, the world religions are concerned with how to cope with suffering and offer guidance for overcoming evil and suffering. Leading scholars of five world religions, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and Hinduism, have created with this volume a first-hand source of information, which enables the reader to gain a better understanding of these religions' central teachings about the origin and the overcoming of evil and suffering.
