Book The Sundering Flood Vol 1 of 2 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Sundering Flood Vol 1 of 2 Classic Reprint written by William Morris and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-23 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Sundering Flood, Vol. 1 of 2 City and its lands (and the city - folk in special) knew no cause for this name. Nay, oft they jested and gibed and gabbed, for they loved their river much and were proud of it; wherefore they said it was no sunderer but a uniter that it joined land to land and shore to shore; that it had peopled the wilderness and made the waste places blossom, and that no highway for wheels and beasts in all the land was so full of blessings and joys as was their own wet Highway of the Flood. Nevertheless, as meseemeth that no name is given to any town or mountain or river causeless, but that men are moved to name all steads for a remembrance of deeds that have been done and tidings that have befallen, or some due cause, even so might it well be with the Sundering Flood, and whereas also I wot something of that cause I shall now presently Show you the same. Book excerpt: This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Through the Johnstown Flood: A Thrilling, Truthful, and Official History of the Most Appalling Calamity of Modern Times So many persons have expressed their desire to have written a correct description and trustworthy record of this great calamity that I have been induced, upon the Solicitation of a number of our citizens and others, to undertake the work. They represented to me that my personal and pastoral relations to Johnstown, my own experience, my official connection with the work of rescue and re construction, imposed it upon me as a duty. I could not possibly describe all that occurred during, and subsequently to, the flood but as a participant in the terrible tragedy, as an eye-witness. Of the frightful scenes, and as superintendent of the morgues, brought into contact with most of the dead and living who were overwhelmed in the flood, Itrust that my account will prove an acceptable, as it certainly is a reliable, one in all it contains. Download or read book Relief from Floods Vol 1 written by John W. Alvord and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Relief From Floods, Vol. 1: The Fundamental of Flood Prevention, Flood Protection and the Means for Determination Proper Remedies Although great floods are constantly occurring in vari ous parts Of the country, they happen infrequently in the same locality. They come unexpectedly, and as they pass, they leave the community with the desire for better con ditions but with considerable bewilderment as to how they shall be secured. There is a lack of appreciation of the prob lem and an absence of knowledge, even among some engi nears, as to what shall be done to determine proper measures for relief, to ascertain what fundamental data is reason ably required, and to determine what investigations and studies must be made before the proper remedy can be selected. Everyone wants to see the dirt fly. It is the tendency to be intolerant of the time spent in investi gation, and yet nothing good can be accomplished without a proper amount Of such preliminary work. Some phases Of this matter have received much thought in the past, but it is only recently that the number Of problems care fully studied has been great enough to warrant a clear-cut outline Of the field, and to demonstrate that nearly every remedy has its specific place.
