Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE SUFI PATH Metaphysics & Stages of the Way in Poetry by Mansur al-Hallaj, Nizami, Ibn al-Farid and others Translation & Introduction Paul Smith CONTENTS: The Tawasin. Mansur al-Hallaj was executed for declaring: "I am the Truth (Anal Haq)." Much has been written about his famous (and in-famous) statement and his masterpiece The Tawasin in which he makes it. 'Written in rhymed Arabic prose... it sets forth a doctrine of saintship-a doctrine founded on personal experience and clothed in the form of a subtle yet passionate dialectic.' R.A. Nicholson. Treasury of Mysteries by Nizami..: ..". the most beautiful mystic poem in the Persian language, has both perfection of language and grandeur of thought. Every line of his Treasury of Mysteries is a living witness to his absolute certainty that piety, devotion, humility and self-forgetfulness are the corner stones of total annihilation, which in turn is necessary for unification with God and the foundation of the edifice of eternal life." G. H. Darab. Senior lecturer in Persian. University of London. Rose Garden of Mystery by Shabistari... is regarded as one of the finest books on Sufism. E.G. Browne: "On the whole, one of the best manuals of Sufi theosophy that exists." Rev. John A. Subhan: "Important... because it is a compendium of Sufi terminology in the form of question and answer." R.A. Nicholson, "A versified exposition of the chief Sufi Doctrines. It should be read by every one seriously interested in the subject." The Sufi's Progress by Ibn al-Farid who is considered to be the undisputed master of Islamic mystical (Sufi) poetry into Arabic. He is considered not only to be a poet but a Perfect Master (Qutub) a God-realised soul... it is his journey to unity with God that he reveals in probably the longest qasida (ode) in Arabic. Book of Ecstasy or Ball & Polo-Stick by 'Arifi... 'allegory of the human soul and also a rendition of the analogy of that soul and the macrocosmic soul... goes further than many mystical treatises in that it not only deals with the matter of spiritual ecstasy, but also emphasises that when attunement with the macrocosmic element is attained, even mystical experience is dwarfed... a most important and still valuable part of the scriptures of the Sufis.' Al Faqir Hafiz Amir Barakawi-Khajawi. Poems Composed while Reading 'God Speaks' of Meher Baba... Meher Baba's metaphysical views are most notably described in God Speaks. He upheld the concept of non-duality, the view that diverse creation, or duality, is an illusion and that the goal of life is conscious realization of the absolute Oneness of God inherent in all animate and inanimate beings and things. These free-form and rhyming poems by Paul Smith were composed during studying this masterpiece. The correct rhyme-structures have been kept in all forms of all the poems. Large Format Paperback 7"x 10" 572 pages. Paul Smith (b. 1945) is a poet, author and translator of many books of Sufi poets of the Persian, Arabic, Urdu, Turkish, Pashtu and other languages... including Hafiz, Sadi, Nizami, Rumi, 'Attar, Sana'i, Jahan Khatun, Obeyd Zakani, Nesimi, Yunus Emre and many others, and his own poetry, fiction, plays, biographies, children's books and screenplays. www.newhumanitybooks.com"

Book The Sufi Quatrains of Farid Al Din Attar

Download or read book The Sufi Quatrains of Farid Al Din Attar written by Farid 'Attar and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-11-27 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sufi Quatrains of Farid al-din 'Attar Translation & Introduction Paul Smith Farid al-din 'Attar (d. 1221) is the Perfect Master Poet who was the author of over forty books of poetry and prose including The Conference of the Birds, The Book of God (which he is said to have presented to Rumi when he met him) and The Lives of the Saints. Apart from his many books in masnavi form he also composed many hundreds of mystical ghazals and ruba'is. He also changed the evolution of the ruba'i form by composing a long Sufi epic, the Mukhtar-nama, where each of 2088 ruba'is is connected by subject matter that Fitzgerald attempted to do with those he attributed to Omar Khayyam, but most were by others. Included in Introduction is the life of 'Attar and a history of the ruba'i and examples by its greatest exponents. Here is a selection of over 100 of his Sufi ruba'is. Introduction on The Life, Times & Works of 'Attar, The Form, Function & History of the Ruba'i. Selected Bibliography. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ibn al-'Arabi is still known as "the Great Sheik" among the surviving Sufi orders. Born in Muslim Spain, he has become famous in the West as the greatest mystical thinker of Islamic civilization. He was a great philosopher, theologian, and poet. William Chittick takes a major step toward exposing the breadth and depth of Ibn al-'Arabi's vision. The book offers his view of spiritual perfection and explains his theology, ontology, epistemology, hermeneutics, and soteriology. The clear language, unencumbered by methodological jargon, makes it accessible to those familiar with other spiritual traditions, while its scholarly precision will appeal to specialists. Beginning with a survey of Ibn al-'Arabi's major teachings, the book gradually introduces the most important facets of his thought, devoting attention to definitions of his basic terminology. His teachings are illustrated with many translated passages introducing readers to fascinating byways of spiritual life that would not ordinarily be encountered in an account of a thinker's ideas. Ibn al-'Arabi is allowed to describe in detail the visionary world from which his knowledge derives and to express his teachings in his own words. More than 600 passages from his major work, al-Futuhat al-Makkivva, are translated here, practically for the first time. These alone provide twice the text of the Fusus al-hikam. The exhaustive indexes make the work an invaluable reference tool for research in Sufism and Islamic thought in general.

Book excerpt: Stations of the Sufi Path: The one Hundred Fields (Sad Maydan) of Abdullah Ansari of Herat, is a key Sufi text and the first in Persian to address the stages, or stations, of the Sufi way. Its author Abdullah Ansari (396/1006-448/1056) is considered one of the greatest and most prolific of the Persian Sufi scholars, and his works constitute an important contribution to the intellectual history of Islam. His writings address both exoteric philosophy and esoteric understanding, and range from Qur'an exegesis to devotional invocations and biographies of the Sufis, from literature and poetry to civil morality and ethics, always emphasizing the divine law as well as the divine truth as the way toward understanding. The One Hundred Fields was written by a spiritual teacher to serve as a Sufi manual for guiding novices. Its clearly defined and detailed descriptions of each 'station' make this work an esoteric masterpiece, almost one thousand years old. that still invites the reader on a spiritual journey of self-discovery. Nahid Angha provides the first complete annotated translation into English together with a full introduction. It will be of interest to the specialist in Sufism as well as to the general reader. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the most accessible work in English on the greatest mystical poet of Islam, providing a survey of the basic Sufi and Islamic doctrines concerning God and the world, the role of man in the cosmos, the need for religion, man's ultimate becoming, the states and stations of the mystical ascent to God, and the means whereby literature employs symbols to express "unseen" realities. William Chittick translates into English for the first time certain aspects of Rumi's work. He selects and rearranges Rumi's poetry and prose in order to leave aside unnecessary complications characteristic of other English translations and to present Rumi's ideas in an orderly fashion, yet in his own words. Thorough, nontechnical introductions to each chapter, and selections that gradually present a greater variety of terms and images, make this work easily accessible to those interested in the spirituality of any tradition.
