Book The Study of Single Phase Diode Rectifiers with High Power Factor and Low Total Harmonic Distortion

Download or read book The Study of Single Phase Diode Rectifiers with High Power Factor and Low Total Harmonic Distortion written by Pranavi Chowdari Tella and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mains current in an ac/dc converter contains periodic current pulses due to the action of rectifier and output filter capacitor. The high current peaks cause harmonic distortion of the supply current and low power factor. This results in a poor power quality, voltage distortion, poor power factor at input ac mains, slowly varying rippled dc output at load end and low efficiency. Many input wave shaping methods have been proposed to solve the problem of poor power factor which can be classified as active and passive methods. The main focus of this study is to review various existing wave shaping methods in terms of their efficiency, total harmonic distortion and power factor. Among the passive wave shaping techniques, the improved passive current wave shaping method and the novel method are analyzed and are simulated in ORCAD software. The active method which uses a MOSFET switch driven by the rectangular pulses of continuously varying duty cycle over a period of supply voltage is analyzed. The relevant theoretical design parameters and the simulated results are presented.

Book Design of Single Switch Rectifier for Electric Vehicle Battery Charger Application

Download or read book Design of Single Switch Rectifier for Electric Vehicle Battery Charger Application written by Indra Nisja and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A single switch rectifier was developed in this thesis, which has continuos input and output currents. The design and implementation of a single switch three-phase multi resonant rectifier delivering 147 Vdc at 2.2 kW output has been carried out. By the use of a multi resonant scheme, the IGBT operates with zero current switching and the diode operates with zero voltage switching. This multi-resonant rectifier with a single transistor is capable of drawing a higher quality input current waveforms, good power factor and low stresses on the semiconductor devices. Buck typer converter was used for the power stage, and hence the output voltage is lower than the input voltage. Moreover, there rectifiers have a wide a load range with low stress on semiconductor devices. Simulation and experimental results are presentes. The total harmonic distortion (THD) of the line current is less than 5% and the system efficiency is about 90% at 25% of maximum load. The single switch rectifier using multi resonant zero current switching has been simulated using OrCad release 9.1 software for 25% of maximum load. A good agreement between simulation and experimental results has been achieved.

Book High Power Factor High current Variable voltage Rectifiers

Download or read book High Power Factor High current Variable voltage Rectifiers written by Jitendra Solanki and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-current variable-voltage (HCVV) rectifiers are used in the metal and chemical industries. Typical power ratings vary from tens of kW to hundreds of MW. Even with the advancement of the power factor correction rectifiers, accepted choices of high-current AC to DC converters remain 6, 12 or 24-pulse thyristor/diode rectifiers, because of high reliability, efficiency and availability of suitable semiconductor devices. The main issues with these rectifiers are poor input power factor, high current harmonic distortion, high-maintenance cost, high weight and large volume. Moreover, to achieve low output voltage ripple, large capacitive filters are required. To tackle these issues, a two-pronged approach is taken in this thesis. First, the power quality issues of thyristor rectifiers are addressed with the help of passive and hybrid filters. Second, completely different, medium-frequency transformer-based topologies are proposed for the HCVV applications. ; eng

Book Three Phase PWM Rectifiers Design Simulation Study

Download or read book Three Phase PWM Rectifiers Design Simulation Study written by Nisith Bhowmick and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solid state power frequency changers are used for various purposes. The usual practice to get variable frequency power source is to use rectifier-inverter combination.Unfortunately the conventional diode/thyristor bridge rectifiers at the input side cause several problems such as: low input power factor, considerable harmonic distortion of ac currents and harmonic pollution on grid. The PWM rectifier is a preferred choice for providing ac to d.c conversion, due to its capability of input p.f regulation, line harmonic current mitigation, d.c voltage control and bidirectional power flow.In this thesis work, the theory behind a three phase PWM rectifier has been studied.a controller is designed to regulate the output voltage and input power factor. The entire system with its controller is modeled and simulated in MATLAB-simulink to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy, to set the controller gains exactly to ascertain certain ratings of few hardware implementation. In this thesis work, real time simulation of a three phase PWM rectifier system with the proposed control strategy has been done usi

Book Introduction to Power Electronics

Download or read book Introduction to Power Electronics written by D. Fewson and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 1998-03-27 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building on solid state device and electromagnetic contributions to the series, this text book introduces modern power electronics, that is the application of semiconductor devices to the control and conversion of electrical power. The increased availability of solid state power switches has created a very rapid expansion in applications, from the relatively low power control of domestic equipment, to high power control of industrial processes and very high power control along transmission lines. This text provides a comprehensive introduction to the entire range of devices and examines their applications, assuming only the minimum mathematical and electronic background. It covers a full year's course in power electronics. Numerous exercises, worked examples and self assessments are included to facilitate self study and distance learning.

Book Study and implementation of high power factor three level rectifiers employing soft switching techniques

Download or read book Study and implementation of high power factor three level rectifiers employing soft switching techniques written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
