Book The Study Of Primary Education

Download or read book The Study Of Primary Education written by Colin Conner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-10-04 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The four books are intended to be used by students taking BEd or PGCE courses and by teachers in service, taking diploma or higher degree courses in primary education. The material extracted can by used by tutors as a focus for seminars or as reading to back up lectures, and by students as a source for essays or as a starting point for further reading. The books are not intended to be read straight through from cover to cover but can be selectively and flexibly used at various stages in the course. For convenience, the extracts have been organized into a number of sections. Volume 1 comprises extracts which examine primary education from historical, ideological, philosophical, sociological and psychological perspectives. Volume 2 deals with curriculum studies, Volume 3 with school organization and management and Volume 4 with teaching and classroom studies. Because of limitations of space, primary education has been confined to the education of children aged 5 to 11, though the compilers acknowledge that in doing so they may offend those teachers in nursery or middle schools who regard themselves, justifiably, as primary practitioners.

What is it useful for teachers to consider when contemplating the issues of classroom management and organization? What do different practices have to offer? "Organizing for Learning in the Primary Classroom" explores the whole range of influences and values which underpin why teachers do what they do in the classroom context and what these mean to children and others. Janet Moyles draws on several different research findings to examine the evidence in relation to the underlying issues of teachers' beliefs and values. She examines teaching and learning styles, children's independence and autonomy, coping with children's differences , the physical classroom context and resources, time management and ways of involving others in the day to day organization. Practical suggestions are given for considering both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the classroom context. Opportunities are provided for teachers to reflect on their own organization and also consider innovative and flexible ways forward to deal with new and ever increasing demands on their time and sanity!.
