Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Student's Life of Christ This Life of Jesus the Christ was written from the stand point of the teacher in the Sunday school, with a class desirous of gaining a mastery of the facts from a constructive point of view. It was originally published, chapter by chapter, in various religious weeklies. Notwithstanding the limitations imposed by this method of publication it excited an interest among many readers which seemed to justify its issue in book form for permanent use. The chapters follow closely the Bible Study Union lessons on the Life of Christ, to which they were designed to be supplemental. So representative of the best scholarship is the outline of these lessons that no practical difficulty arose to prevent its being thus followed. The formal requirement of a quarterly review lesson proved advantageous rather than otherwise. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Life Teaching of Jesus Christ Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Life Teaching of Jesus Christ Classic Reprint written by William Boothby Selbie and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life Teaching of Jesus Christ This little book makes no claim to an exhaustive treatment of its great subject, nor even to be an original contribution to it. It is intended as an outline or introduction for those who are beginning the study, and who have no special critical or theological knowledge. The aim throughout has been to summarise the results of modern investigation from the constructive standpoint, and to show that when criticism has had its perfect work enough remains for faith and devotion. The subject is one which raises many problems of which no final solution is possible in the present state of our knowledge. The writer would acknowledge his obligations to many modern writers on the period, to some of whom reference is made in these pages, and among them especially to his old teacher, Dr. Sanday of Oxford, to whom all students of the New Testament owe an incalculable debt. Book The Teaching of Jesus Concerning the Christian Life Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2016-10-14 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Teaching of Jesus, Concerning the Christian Life He was right. Some men do not give religion any place in their lives. They think they can do without it. They have other aims which they consider higher, or to which they give more care ful attention. Others seek religion and hold it in esteem, but they do not make it the principal thing. They think more of something else. Religion has a place in their lives, as they suppose, but it is a low place, an Obscure corner. It does not come to the front. But those who give religion no place or a low place in their lives not only act contrary to their own reason and higher impulses, but they violate the Whole spirit of revelation, and especially the definite and repeated teachings and commands and expostula tions of Jesus. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life of Jesus Christ for the Young, Vol. 2 A covenant means a bargain, or agreement made between two or more persons. One of these persons promises to do certain things, provided that the other will do certain other things. For example, we read in Genesis, twenty-ninth chapter, about Jacob going to live for awhile with his uncle, Laban, in Padanaram, where Abraham had formerly lived. Laban and Jacob made an agreement or covenant with each other. Jacob wished to marry Rachel, one of Laban's daughters. Laban said, you shall have my daughter on these conditions: if you will serve me for seven years, as a shepherd, taking care of my flocks of sheep, then, as soon as the seven years are ended, you shall marry Rachel, and have her for your wife. This book was released on 2018-02-18 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Teacher's Manual for the Life of Jesus The purpose of this chapter is to show what was the actual, ' everyday religion of the Jews in the time of Christ. By way of introduction. Point out how religious ideas and practices are constantly changing. For example, compare to-day with but fifty years ago. Note the difference in religious thinking the emphasis to-day upon the kingdom, social Christianity, missions, upon the moral and spiritual rather than the miraca lous, upon the presence Of God in all the world's life. Note, too, the changes in the practical life and work Of the church, in buildings, organization, and the like. DO not allow this to become a discussion, but use it simply to illustrate that reli gion changes when it is really alive. Book The Life of Jesus Christ for the Young Vol 3 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Life of Jesus Christ for the Young Vol 3 Classic Reprint written by Consultant Paediatric Neurologist Richard Newton, M.D. and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-19 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life of Jesus Christ for the Young, Vol. 3 Philip had a friend named Nathanael. The next time he met him, he said, we have found him of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. But Nazareth was a despised place, and had a bad reputation. Nathanael had a very poor Opinion of the place, and he asked Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him Come and see. And this is what we should say to persons when we wish them to become Christians. There is so much that is lovely and excellent in Jesus, that if people will only come and see if they will only prove for themselves what a glorious Saviour he is, they will find it impossible to help loving and serving him. Nathanael came to Jesus And when he heard the wonderful words that Jesus spoke to him he was converted at once, and expressed his wonder by saying Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. We can read all about this in John i: 43 - 51. Nathanael became a disciple of Jesus, and one of the twelve apostles, and is supposed to be the same one who bears the name of Bartholomew, in the different lists of the apostles. After this we read of Jesus calling Matthew the publican, who was a tax-gatherer. This is what is meant by his sitting at the receipt of custom. Follow me were the words spoken to him. He obeyed at once; left all and followed Jesus. St. Luke and St. Mark mention this same call, but they give the name of Levi, to the person thus called. This is not strange, for it was common among the Jews for persons to have two names. Sometimes they were called by one 'of these names, and sometimes by the other. Here we have the account of six persons, who became disciples of Jesus; and of the different ways in which they were led to follow him. No doubt many others were led to become his disciples from simply hear ing him preach; and from listening to the gracious words that he spoke. Strauss treated the Gospel narrative like any other historical work, and denied all supernatural elements in the Gospels. Das Leben Jesu created an overnight sensation and Strauss became embroiled in fierce controversy. For the purpose of greater dis tinctness, dates have been placed at the be ginning of the lessons, though in most cases they must be, at least in part, conjectural. It is recommended that both teachers and pupils should make but little use of the questions, and that those who have time will carefully read the chapters referred to in the Bible. It is hoped that all who may use this little book may approach the subject with the reverence due to the Son of God, and Saviour of the world.
