Numerous applications for copies in book form have induced the author to publish the Schemes under a more general title. Since writing the articles the author has been called to another sphere of labor, and the circumstances which led to their compilation are explained in the following paragraphs, quoted from the prefatory remarks accompanying the original publication. "The system of instruction in Quantitative Analytical Chemistry, organized in the School of Mines, Columbia College, by Dr. C. F. Chandler, has been developed by the Assistants, who have had charge of the Laboratory for Quantitative Analysis, Mr. Alexis A. Julien, Dr. Paul Schweitzer, and the writer.
